  1. So all Edge's coming out of the factory are daylight running lights capable? Our dealer (admittedly, not a tech, just in sales) told us that it was only a fleet option that could be sorted out in the factory - we might well get them switched on if that is the case.
  2. Nothing here either. The only way i can see anything having happened is if a bunch of road salt got stuck in there and started eating away at the paint - however they have only been out a short time, not really long enough to rust - how trustworthy is your source?
  3. No issue so far, however i havent driven it over 70mph with the new crossbars attached yet. The reason the cars on the lots dont have the crossbars is because they are an extra aftersales option, not an out of the factory option.
  4. I got all my stuff from parts cheap, they sent the scuff pad last week - they were waiting on chrome wheel locks and the crossbars, but the rest of the stuff they said they had in stock last time i spoke with them. Still havent seen much for a cargo cover, plenty of liners though.
  5. Its about $250 (IIRC) right now, you dont have to wait for 2008 to get bluetooth, just the sync.
  6. That is one big pocket book that it cant fit in the center console!
  7. I have actually noted when i turn the stereo down and talk on the phone that i can hear quite a bit of echo coming from the dash/windshield - quite funny really, i hadnt thought of deadening it out with a mat. On another note, we put the crossbars on this weekend. While putting them together shouldnt take all that long, the problem is you need a short wrench with a star head - or better yet an offset wrench to hold the head. The angle the screws make to the roofbars is towards the roof itself, so a regular wrench wont fit (unless you want to scratch the roof and misalign the screws). So that was what took the most time. I also suggest using some of the cardboard that the crossbars come packaged in put down on the roof to protect it while you are working (unless you have something better). We have also attempted to mount our Thule J-rack kayak holders on to the crossbars - however the hole that remains when you screw them up tight is larger than the elliptical bar, so we might try to find a shim or see if there are other connectors, would rather not replace the kayak rack as they cost a bit! The bars are also a little close together that they dont hit the bulkheads (best place to brace against when transporting), but that is just their design. We are off today to check with the Thule dealer on different connectors or a shim. I also tried out the cargo management system to restrain some groceries and my soccer stuff - at least a ball and gallon of water, none of which moved.
  8. Havent seen one as a part of a package or on any of the current accessory lists. So far i either havent had anything of value or i have had a bunch of stuff in there that couldnt be covered by a cargo cover. I'd still like one though if possible.
  9. You can get EITHER roofracks or sunroofs, not both. Supposedly the structural strength of the roof can only support one or the other - also there may not be very much clearance between an open roof and the underside of the cross bars. Supposedly Ford had set targets for how many units will have sunroofs or racks or nothing, i think it is supposed to be abut 40-50% sunroofs over the course of the year. I know most that were ordered down here in FL have the sunroofs and that was a big selling point as a standout feature of the car (its advertised a lot, hence why most pictures have it) - its one reason we found it hard to find the options we wanted, not many were ordered AWD, roofbars w/o nav or rear DVD! The manual states that the rack has a load capacity of 100# or so. The elliptical crossbars dont come with the car from the factory - you have to buy them aftersales from Ford and are tyically <$100 depending on where you find your deals.
  10. Quite nice, but not for me. We used some black generic stuff to do almost the same places - door edges and door bottom sills on the frame and the rear door edge - its not shiny, but prevents any scuffing and keeps it nice. Not sure it works with our blazing copper either - which is already trimmed with black parts as the rest are - would require replacing a lot of black parts with alu.
  11. Unlike the popular, but some times biased rag reviews, there are a bunch of regular newspaper reviews reprinted on the www.research.cars.com almost all of which are quite favourable they are shown at the bottom of the first review. Its good to see mostly unbiased reviews out there rather than the same old Japanese is best, American sucks stuff.
  12. The sill protection is not a genuine ford part like the rest of the stuff. It was a roll of non-slip tape from Pep-Boys, although i am sure you could find the same stuff at various other car parts stores. My "step" mother in law (wife's stepmom) is a bit short and when she tried to get into the back seat with heels on she was trying to edge herself in on anything that she could reach - it just happened to be the painted metal strip outside the plastic scuff pad in the doorframe. We were left with a couple of long scratches from her heels and felt it might happen again and looked around, but couldnt find anything specifically for it. This is the same type of stuff that you can trim and shape to fit various places where you need non-slip. The roll we bought was 4" wide and much longer than we'd ever need. As i said it is pretty close to the plastic inside the car, so it doesnt look too much out - however it doesnt have "edge" on or anything else like that. I should take some photos of various things i have been asked for, but i havent got any at the moment.
  13. I find all kinds of TSB's for various vehicles in various places, i thought they were on the NHTSA. Is there a place where this info is made public aside from the dealers network? The only thing i am wondering about is when my parts were made - is there a way of checking that? Also the ignition issue, the rest are unlikely to affect anything on my Edge, but i am sure others would like to know.
  14. I looked on the NHTSA website and couldnt find any of these, do you have a link as to where you found them? I just wanted to get more info on some of them. Is there also a place where you can check the manufacture date based on VIN or something?
  15. I had a similar whomp, whomp, whomp noise when my father-in-law was in the back and opened the window a crack - but its the air trying to come in through such a small gap that made the noise. Driving all windows down, or at least mostly down in the back (to keep the dog from jumping out) we didnt notice any noise, vibrations etc. I dont like driving with just the rears down as it doesnt cool the car off any up front, just makes a lot of noise.
  16. While i dont have one of the highly reflective dashes, i would like to hear more. The interior was measure by Edmunds at 45dB at idle and only around 65-70 on a 70mph coast and during fully opened acceleration - so it might be hard to deaden that much more, but would like to hear your qualitative assessment. I also enjoy the commute more now than before - however i dont like racking up the miles! Already at 1500 after only 3 weeks owning it, however i hope we wont take any long trips for a while.
  17. Indeed that glare is bad, however i think you sit pretty low in the seat - at least looking at where the wheel is in the picture. I assume you are short and just seeing over the wheel, maybe if you try sitting up higher the glare wont be as bad due to the angle your line of sight is in in relation to the reflection off the dash. My head is pretty close to the roof when the seat is put to the floor - however i am 6'3" and the glare even off the chrome bits is contained high up in the windshield.
  18. Dont watch the show - cant stand Ty Penington and dont want to give the wife ideas about new things to do around the house! It should be great advertising for the Ford, just like the rest of the stuff they get provided on that show. I wouldnt mind getting one for free though! We dont have the house for upgrading though.
  19. While still next to no glare i have observed some pics used by the rags to show the glare. I get a little reflection of the chrome on the dish in the center of the dash - its mostly hidden behind the rear view mirror though, not a place i am generally looking out of when i am driving - only in the mirror or out the windshield in front of me. The photos i saw were taken from the passenger side, where the reflection is not hidden by the rear view mirror - so it looks worse given that angle. Of course the lighter shades of the dash were a little glared on the window - again why i chose the black. Anyway i thought that angle wasnt flattering and really wouldnt trouble the drive - who drives in the passenger seat???
  20. Mine is body colored, dont know what might have happened in your order/manufacture.
  21. I have the charcoal interior too, however i would say its a grey colour, not so tannish (but then again i am colour blind, although those arent really the colours i am bad with). Its pretty light (so you could argue it either way - i think that photo makes it look more tan due to the reflection off the dash or poor lighting for the photo as it looks the same as mine), i think it would have been nicer to have it darker to match the leather and plastic of the scheme, but that is just me being picky. As for those other options at those prices i would have paid an additional $2.5k for the backup camera (although i would have removed the reverse sensing for $200), cooled seats, power liftgate, HID lights passive start system and possibly blue tooth as well. Not too thrilled about 3rd row as it could get a bit tight in there, headrest DVD is about the same as the roof mounted, however its more useful when you have the the BAMR or you dont want your kids to get neck ache! I think the 18" wheels look good, not sure i would go for 20", but to each their own. As for standard features across the line-up, some people might not have wanted all of them and if all trims had the same stuff, why have 3 trim levels? Maybe they could have got away with 2, but then other people wouldnt be happy - its impossible to please all the people all the time. I dont know if they just wanted to get the cars out there on the market as quickly as possible and wait til later to add on more bells and whistles, but i know i didnt want to have to wait any more time than i did to get hold of mine, even if i lost a few newer features. My old car was on the verge of being scrapped, i dont think it would have waited til the 2008 Edge (or my other hope the Highlander in its 08 model) and i would have felt i took second place if i bought the RAV4 or the Passat Wagon, i would have felt more done had i taken any of the other cars i drove to use for the next x years (hopefully 5-8 years). I dont know what we might do when my wife's car is coming to the end of its life, but that should not be for another 3-5 years as well - maybe we'll get another Edge, maybe something else for a more economical ride - another sedan.
  22. It was just surprising that's all! I dont have a photo yet, but the word Edge is in the middle, directly under where the latch is. I used a variety of sites to find the best price and availability, however i bought all the stuff from one Parts Cheap in CA: http://www.fordaccessories.com/vehicle/For...s/SUV/edge.aspx http://www.autowebaccessories.com/ - i could put on the address, but it always links back to the home page, navigate yourself http://www.partscheap.com/edge07.htm It took about two weeks for it all to get to their place and be sent out to arrive at my door. They checked there was room for the charge on my card, but didnt charge until the shipment was on its way.
  23. So tonight we put on the final permanent piece - the splash/mud guards (the roofrack crossbars are going on temporarily now and again and certainly not until we need them). They look nice in place, but i wasnt happy that you had to drill through the car body to install them (that is what the instructions suggested and we checked them twice as we werent sure either). They are universal mudguards that can be used on the Excursion, Expedition and Escape as well as the Lincoln versions of those. The instructions inform you to drill out certain lettered holes and then use that as a template to drill the holes in the underside of the wheel arch. Not sure if i should use a sealant to stop any rust from water getting in there behind the flap and trapped though. There are 3 screws holding each flap in place, so hopefully that will be enough to hold it should anything hit it. Anyway, they hang low enough that they should stop a good deal of stuff flying up as has already happened in the past few weeks, so should prove their price soon.
  24. There is something in the pipes called "sync", i dont know much about it right now, but others do. There is an accessory that you can add to the 2007 Edge now that is bluetooth capable too. The usual model years seem to start appearing late summer, but cant be sure in Canada. Dont know of other changes, however there are a few threads out there discussing this. Size-wise, you can fit all that in the Edge without any squeeze! Having used a few explorers, i would say the seating and trunk space feels practically the same and it seems pretty spacious for most anything you might want to put in there. We had a fair sized cooler, a couple of large plastic totes, dog cage (folded), boxed 3 room tent, couple of fold out chairs, inflatable bed and sleeping stuff all in the trunk with a little room to spare when we went camping with the dog for a long weekend.
  25. Indeed interesting, however one has to ask how long is the plug in time and what are the kWh of energy used each time? Even if you arent paying at the pump you could be paying with your electric bill and then of course the production of that energy requires some kind of power plant. Then of course what energy do they require to create the hydrogen fuel cell and its refilling? Its a great step to have something that would be capable of this (and with an Edge no less!), but lets see the science behind it. The hybrid thing to date isnt bad at all, but its limited and still relatively untested. The E-fuel is not a great way to go either due to the huge amount of corn that needs to be grown. Not sure what other options they might have available right now, but its worth exploring them all.
