    Poor MPG

My average is about 20mpg for the 35 or so tanks i have filled up so far, although they do vary from 16 where its all stop-start city (actually we were house hunting a lot at that time) to 23 (tank average, we hit 27 on the computer) when we did long road trips. I have always got better than EPA numbers on every car i have had for the city or highway driving, this car is doing the same for me.
  2. The pedal has always felt soft which i believe is part of the reason that the brakes were so heavily criticized by the media when the Edge was in pre-production. Although they feel a lot softer and travel more than some cars i have driven, they still seem to stop very quickly!
  3. I had the pillar trim replaced as it was coming off - probably a combination of expansion in the heat and someone knocking it, no problem now. I also occasionally get the stability control going off when i corner a bit quickly, the ABS, drivetrain and ESC lights come on for a little while and then off. Didnt know what it was the first time and the mechanics didnt find an error code and it only happens on certain corners which i usually dont slow down too much for.
  4. I didnt have too much trouble with it, the bits that stick up - to contain a spill i assume, flex enough that it fits the length of the trunk space.
  5. I bought one for our dogs on the backseat. You can still get to all the seatbelts for kids or adults, but it really does fit well. We got the truck bench seat version, you have to get the size that is a little bigger than you might think - it might be best for Excursions and such IIRC (its been a while since i threw away the box), due to the width of the Edge. The one we found came in grey, it doesnt match the charcoal interior, but then again nor do scratches from dogs' claws!
  6. Still not off the air yet, its been almost 7 months now.
  7. The vent shape is good for getting air out, but is not so good for directing it somewhere like normal AC vents which you can direct at your face and such. That is something to get used to, but it doesnt mean its not working or that it wont cool your car quickly. Some of the air is also directed at the rear seat from the rear vents, which if you could shut off might mean more push from the front vents. My wife complains about the lack of directional control as when she's hot she likes to have it blowing at her face, personally i dont really mind either way. As for difference between passenger and driver's side force, cant say i have noticed.
  8. 43mph is when it shifts into 6th. I get a very slight sound and flick on the tach that tells me it is shifting into 6th and just hanging onto the gas a bit too long. I wouldnt rate it as a problem and asked the techs about it when i took it in for an oil change, but they didnt think there was anything that could be done. No TSB to my knowledge about that one yet. They also couldnt replicate the delayed shifting into 6th - it holds 5th until 55+/- which is about 2k rpm before shifting. It only seems to happen in hot weather - which we have had plenty of here. Its ok if i go on the highway as i am speeding up anyway, but on suburban streets where the limit is 45mph i dislike it not shifting up to top gear to get a little more fuel economy and quiet in the cabin.
  9. Another few weeks to go until they pull mine, i bought on 3/1. No word yet.
  10. 5k for extreme conditions - heat, idling, towing, dusty conditions 7.5k for normal operation of highway and city driving without those extremes. I got my first oil change at 4.5k for free from the dealership and intend on buying the maintenence plan for 6 years @ 5k intervals as i live in a hot and often dusty area and occassionally tow things or drive with excessive weight in the vehicle. YMMV
  11. From a quick check of heysdad's posts, it looks like his issue was the glare on the windshield, not much else but that reported. As for the Highlander, i dont know about the 2008 model, which was supposed to be redone, but the 2007 couldnt hold a candle to the Edge in our opinion - noise, jerky transmission and uncomfortable to boot.
  12. Buy a lockable plug for the gas tank. The flap isnt lockable, but a lockable plug wiht a key on your keyring should work well.
  13. Mine has been close to the calculated value, at least within 0.5 MPG on the computer.
  14. Even with the towing package, the Edge can really only tow a small cargo type trailer or jetski or such. The pop-up is about your limit on that one. We are thnking of going the other route and towing the Edge with a Class A - certainly not a trailer like a 5th wheel or TT, but you need a truck based SUV to tow such a thing.
  15. You or the dealer has to buy the option when ordering with Ford. The class II hitch is not a standard feature, i havent heard of anything about the class I? The towing prep package gives you a bigger battery, radiator and transmission cooling system which are all factory fitted, however that doesnt stop you buying an aftermarket hitch and putting it on there.
  16. Just got back from a long road trip from FL to NY and back in several stages. We drove some 2415 miles on 113 gal which gives us 21.3mpg, which was about 19-20 mpg in local driving legs and 22-23 in highway driving legs through moderate hills in the Carolinas, which i thought was respectable.
  17. Good luck with the first kid, we are thinking of trying in a year or so, but you never can tell when! Glad you like your 500 too.
  18. Unless there is something the dealer can do, my only suggestion is to rip the sensors off the back My only suggestion was in the menu as suggested before.
  19. I noted it as well, it usually happens when the car is first started, and seems to die off (or i get used to it) after a bit of driving. I think it might be an electrical noise possibly around the sub in the trunk area. It can be annoying, but i just turn up the stereo and cant hear it anymore. It happens with the radio on or off though. Let us know what you find. It is intermittent, some days i dont hear anything even with the radio off.
  20. Not much i would require of that list. The power liftgate might be nice, depending on the price of the option. Dont need much larger wheels, not a tech head to get sync, although my wife might like it, no idea on the new interior option - we also have the copper! The cooled seats of the MKX might be nice in the Edge (again depending on price) as they get a little hot in the Florida summer. Have no need for nav myself. The rear liftgate handle is fine, but if they did the rear glass opening with a handle as other small-mid SUV's have that might be useful. I thought part of the big thing of the 08 (except the sync) was going to be something on the brakes and such - although i have no problem with mine, surely that was also on the cards to make the rags shut up?

    Hard Shift?

Your transmission needs a little service, it is trying to pull away in 4th gear and then shifts to 1st when it finds its too hard in 4th - hence the jerk - see the TSB forum on here for the TSB number and go speak with your dealer they should be able to sort it out. 07-5-2 6F50 TRANSAXLE BUILT PRIOR TO 1/10/2007 - DTC P0771, P0774 AND/OR STARTS IN 4TH GEAR FROM A STOP, HARSH 4-1 DOWNSHIFT ON DRIVE AWAY AT 3 MPH (5 KM/H)
  22. I got mine a year before my 30-th, dont think my old car would have made it that far!
  23. It is more than possible to get 26 mpg (US) in the Edge. You can get 32 mpg (according to the computer), but you have to be doing around 40-45mph on a flat surface without stopping for lights etc - next to impossible! There is however a broad range (30-60mph) where the computer calc's out around 30mpg which is quite reasonable, but most people if they can go 60mph would rather do 70-80mph even if their fuel economy drops to low 20's. Although i wouldnt pin everything on the computer readout, its pretty close to the pump calculations for me and certainly gives me an idea what ballpark mileage i am getting whilst driving. Personally i am still hitting 19+/-0.5 each tank using approximately 80/20 city/highway, partly as i try to maximize the time i spend at or around 40mph to get that max fuel economy.
  24. Given time all the various discount places will have them around $100 or possibly less, just give it a little time. So if we have no pictures how do we know how it will mount? There arent grooves to mount a retractable system roller or the extended bar attached to the sheet, so i guess its not like that. There is also the possible reclined angle of the seats to take into account as part would be uncovered when you are upright. If its a solid plate/board like device i can only see it resting on the window sills as again where else could it mount? Worst case is for way less money you could just buy a piece of plywood and cut it to fit, maybe put a hinge or two in to allow stowage, paint it the colour of your interior and you are set. If the cover is like a plate and as flimsy as most back shelf racks as i have had in Ford hatchbacks then it wont carry much weight at all.
  25. So what do you think is the issue, input hole too shallow, angled too low? Seems pretty bizarre to me that it would happen at all, however on most cars the nozzle only rests about an inch or so inside the hole - and really the resistance is the top of the nozzle hitting the top of the hole, the pivot being on the bottom of the nozzle and hole. As i said before, IF you didnt put it in far enough, a line shock from someone else stopping fueling or the nozzle you are using, might be enough to let it jump out. Guess i have been lucky so far, but i also make sure it plenty in there. Again i have driven at least 100 different cars in my time and nothing like this has happened, the angle of the Edge hole to the gas tank looks and feels just fine and pretty much the same as any other i have ever used in the past.
