After the dust has settled on the launch- I don't like it, at all.

I've bought a Mustang Cobra new off a dealers's lot, and I now have kids to haul around, I like Fords, and I can afford it- so I *am* the target market, but there's no way I'd buy that.

I feel that Ford foolishly stole the Mustang moniker for the coupe-ish EV thing.  This is not a Mustang.  You can;t do a burnout, it makes no sounds that are satisfying, and worst of all, it's generally ugly.  I don't see any angle that is particularly good looking.

My predictions is it won't sell well at all, and it'll be gone in less than a decade.  Ford and GM are going to find out the hard way that the lefty types that buy EVs/Teslas look down their nose at anyone who drives a Ford or a Chevy.

Im right there with you man.  I wish they would have stuck with the name Mach-E, would have been PERFECT.  May not of sold well but would be a ford EV nonetheless.

I am not sure where you thought I did not understand the need for a larger/better intercooler.  I have been and am all for one.  I know the AGS has to be removed, and never said plug and play.  I just would like one that 'bolts' up to the stock holes or area without modification other than removal of the AGS.  On the Focus the FMIC was pretty much bolt on, at least the one I got, and was only $350 and was size wise, increase in cooling area, about  the same as we are talking here if not more.  I do not recall off the top of my head.  It was very effective at keeping the charge air temp delta, cold side, to withing 5-7 degrees start to finish.  Either way I lease so I want to be able to pull the bumper cover, remove AGS and Stock FMIC and install new FMIC and put the bumper cover back on, like I did with my Focus ST.  I know when I turn it in they would not notice the holes drilled when returned to stock but I still do not want to have to drill.

    Misunderstood, sorry man.

The factory one is good for most people in daily driving but anyone who likes to not lose power while they are driving aggressively, having fun, really does need an aftermarket one.  I just wish there were more options for them and they were direct fit, no drilling, like the Focus ST ones.  I paid a whopping $350 for the Depo Racing 3.5 Son of the Beast IC when I had that car and it took a whopping hour to put it on.  No drilling and nothing more than some normal hand tool required.  Sure you had to take the front fascia off but that was pretty easy on the Focus, I have not looked to see what the Edge requires to remove it but I am sure it is probably just as easy.  On the Focus it was very noticeable once it was replaced that you were not losing power anymore.  Heck it kept charge air temps within 5-7 degrees from start to finish of running through the gears to over 100MPH from a stop, a delta that was 70+ degrees with the stock unit.  Heck I can tell you that with my stock tune back on my Edge that the 0-60 measured with my draggy is around 5.6s at 32 degrees now and I managed a 1/4 mile time of 13.87s@99.87mph at that temp.  On the stock tune I never got below 14s or under 5.67ishs 0-60 with temps that were higher.   So imagine what these engines could do with Charge Air Temps that did not climb 70+ degrees from start to finish of a 1/4 mile run.  I have checked the temps and once they rise they do not come back down until after you let off the gas and are done having fun.  Compared to the tuned Focus ST pushing around 23-24psi of boost when it was 80 degrees out that the temps all stayed withing 5-7 degrees start to finish when havi0ng fun.

I lease so I am still up in the air on if I want to get one.  Heck when I got the tune and FMIC for the Focus I only had it about 6 more months before I traded the lease in early for the Edge so I am reluctant if I want to spend the money or drill holes.

Well let give you some insight, if you like to drive your edge aggressively in the slightest you would immediately benefit from an intercooler.  stock intercooler on a 0-95mph pull in a 85 degree day boost temps will see 200 degrees and if you keep pulling you will see 220+.  lets not even talk about some backroads fun..... ill have to dig up the logs...but we saw north of 240 in the summer.

There would be no way to do a plug and play larger intercooler on this platform as the AGS blocks you from going deeper and the core support limits width.  Most of us here just cut off the AGS and put in the intercooler, honestly its not a massive job.

With only 24,000 miles on my car I am on my 3rd set of tires!!! The canyons eat them up fast! The Scorpion Verde All Season tires the car came with lasted only 8,000 miles. I replaced the Scorpions with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Summer tires and they lasted for 16,000 miles of canyon work. Could have pushed it another 2 or 3,000 miles but I cut a tire sidewall in a pothole so I just replaced them all. There are other less expensive choices available that provide good performance and bang for the buck but the PS4S tires transformed my car and I am a believer.  IMHO they are the best performance summer tire available for the Edge Sport or ST. The PS4S with my mods to the suspension work perfect together with great turn in and road feel. They have never just let go at the extreme and that gives me confidence to drive the canyons that are in my back yard. I will continue to use the Michelin PS4S tires until I can no longer afford them.

Before you drop a massive boat load of cash next time, check out the Firestone Indy 500's, used them in autocross and dropped about .5 sec from PS4's i had on the audi, and they lasted longer!  Did i mention they are also half the price?

I just picked up my 16 Sport last week, and discovered the Livernois tune last night. They claim +100HP and +100TQ which I find to be totally bombastic. IF IT'S REAL, how do the pistons/rings and transmission cope with the extra torque? What other ford models share the same tranny part number?

I drove a Cobb Stg3 Focus ST for 7 perfect years, over 100k miles not a single mechanical issue. I am religious when it comes to maintinentce  It was far and away the best car I've ever had. I used to do AutoX and SCCA stuff, but my driving now consists of hauling tons of camera equipment in gridlock traffic. Gone with the race car, in with the comfortable and quiet wagon.

Now I didn't buy this car to mod it, I just happened to discover the tune on this board. I'm 99% content with how it is stock because it's extremely easy to drive smoothly. Also, I don't want to think about the fuel costs of running premium in it and driving it fast.

Anyway, Having a tune that increases stock power by THAT MUCH sounds dangerous without stronger driveline components to me. I've just seen too many childishly aggressive drivers blow up their motors by laying into it at low RPM's, and thrash their transmissions by shifting hard or dumping clutches.

I can't seem to find much data about reliability running the LMS tune, and I'm wondering when people have had stuff break when running it, what broke, and do we know why?

Just realize we went off topic a bit here, sorry, did we answer your questions?  If not please let us know what we need to chime in on.

How much gain did you see? IC still stock?

Check out BNR racing they, have a good amount of plug and play turbos available and i have bought and installed 25+ of his turbos and never a problem and they ALWAYS out perform the competition.

  7. Good morning all!

We are currently working with a company to bring an affordable big brake kit (BBK) to our platform. for the time being we will focus on the front calipers only as it will be expensive to get the process started.   We are just trying to gauge interest, pricing will be between 1200.00 ~ 3860.00.

    The kit will include:

    - Calipers (4,6,or 8 Piston)

    - Custom Anodized Color

    - Caliper Carrier

    - Rotors (330mm ~ 380MM)

    - Pads (street, sport, race, pro-race)

    - Stainless Steel Lines

    - All mounting Hardware

The kit is highly customizable and the price will change as you upgrade of course (from dust book composition to even have carbon ceramic options).

The more interest there is the better (of course).

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, i will do my best to answer them as thoroughly as i can.

Hey! I am looking to upgrade my intake on my 2016 edge sport 2.7tt. Do you know if anyone makes one yet or is it possible to have to fabricate one? I live in Chicago. Thanks!

    My email is dimcleveland@gmail.com

Extra and myself have the only true intake mods.  I have a true CAI / ram air.  i am trying to find a company interested in producing it.

This link contains an interesting graph of brake fluid performance when moisture absorption exceeds DOT specified test limits

    https://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/resources/faq/dry-and-wet-boiling-points-dot-brake-fluid/

    shell-dot-fluid-boiling-points.png

And increased hygroscopicity is not a bad thing.  It keeps moisture from destroying metal components.  It just means that a brake fluid tester should be used regularly to keep up with fluid condition, and/or do regular fluid flushes.  You can get test strips/pens on Amazon pretty easy.

Also note that if your brake system specifies LV fluid, be sure to check that the viscosity of any replacement fluid meets those specs.

    This an amazing graph!!!

Yeah, fluid changes have proven key for multiple performance-oriented models.  The more extreme the demands, the more extreme the change intervals.  And always try to get the best fluids you can - engine oil, transmission fluid, PTU/RDU fluids etc.

A lot of owners are now running high E fuel - that takes a toll on engine oil.

Not using high heat capable PTU fluid wears down bearings and ultimately chews up the gears.  And yes, you CAN feel a difference immediately when you install hipo fluids.

Coolant is not a big deal for the Ecoboost engines in the Edge/MKX/Nautilus platform as far as water pumps go, BUT additives do wear out and drop out of solution.  The orange coolant is still not where it needs to be in terms of longterm performance.  It poses challenges just like the gold coolant did.  Specialty Green may have been the best thus far.

Transmission fluid has detergents that help keep the transmission clean.  BUT the "filters"/screens are internal.  So you have no choice but to change fluid regularly.  As vehicles get older, people are now taking the case halves apart themselves and replacing the screens, but that is not suitable for everyone, unless you are in SpecialK and snmjim's car club :)

And of course, no one mentions brake fluid.  Is it really that reliable?  Maybe, but it could be much improved as well.  Just be sure the fluid specs on your new fluid are the same or better than what Ford specs.  It can negatively impact the ABS if not.

interesting you mention brake fluid.  Brake fluid is actually the most absorbent fluid in a vehicle....it actually attracts water. The higher the temp rating, the higher the absorbent rate is.  We replaced our FomoCo DOT3 OEM fluid with a 600 DOT3 to help with brake fade, and flush once a year.

Someone get one and do a before/after on a Dynojet otherwise its all hearsay.

Wouldnt be feasible as the stock tune is airflow and load based.  once it hits its target tq/airflow it will pull boost and timing to hold it, this applies to aftermarket tunes also.  Which is why for the longest time people around here said the "intake wasnt a restriction".

    14 hours ago, jamie1073 said:

If you can show me flow numbers comparing the stock to this IC and that it flows better than stock then sure.  But I have not seen or heard that the stock system is a bottleneck in any way shape or form.  But sure if it can miraculously get more boost pressure and air to the throttle body then fine.  And show me Dyno numbers that show changing to this IC gets more horsepower because I bet if it adds any it is nothing substantial compared to a tune, bigger turbos, better flowing downpipes or anything else.  Either way without numbers it is best to say you will just not lose as much power when the cold side air temps are cooler than without this unit.

Would be hard to provide 1 for 1 flow numbers as the ultimate performance with a garret core is about 40% more area if my memory serves me right.  However, the garret core has larger bars, more fins, and more area....hence better flow and cooling.

You will not have a gain from an Intercooler.  What you will have is less power lost due to heat soaking.  You will have lower charge air temps so you will keep consistent power throughout the pull, where you would normally lose power the harder you drive due to the charge air temp increasing from the heat generated by compressing the air and the turbos being hot.

I guess you're not including the flow difference of high performance cores?

well I've only seen 3 STs on the road in person since release and only 1 was a male. That's a very broad spectrum too cause I've lived in 3 states and driven across the country.

The SQ5 is 100% more of a performance vehicle than the Edge Sport/ST ever will be.

I've only seen 2 ST's in the wild and only one was driven by a male.  Especially the new Hot "V" turbo SQ5, that one has some serious potential once the tuning world cracks the ECM.
