  1. Regarding the oil cooler ... Look where your oil filter screws onto. That piece would have to be replaced with the oil cooler specific part. The oil cooler bolts to that. Then you'd have to run coolant lines to the cooler. You'd have no exposed oil lines, just coolant lines. Looks like a simple remove and replace job. Not sure where the coolant lines run exactly, but that ( to me ) would be the easy part.
  2. I am almost afraid to say this, but I am still not leaking since my PTU change.
  3. and you'll end up with rubber inserts. They are terrible, they fall out and they are hard on the coils. Get a proper spacer made. Aluminum works well. I haven't looked at the coils, but I am sure it can be done. I had a buddy make a set for my VW and it works great. In case your wondering, Jetta's & Golf's of my vintage have terrible ground clearance ( 4.5" ). The lowest point is a cast aluminum oil pan. Skid plate and a lift and all is well. Better in the snow too !
  4. Holly crap! I think I'll keep the shade drawn when the kids are in the car. Once I get it back from the dealer ...
  5. Thank you for the info. I have heard this exact problem with other vehicles and the steering angle sensor was the culprit. I talked with my guy today and he says the codes are for a rear wheel speed sensor. He said a common problem, so they are replacing both to be proactive. The bad news is that the parts have to come from the U.S. ( I am in Canada , where they make the damned thing ! ) So I have at least a week of driving a crappy Focus.
  6. What ended up being the problem ? I currently have the same issue and its at the dealer right now. They are looking at it in the morning.
  7. I would think it could since the drivers side axle is removed in the process of "fixing" the problem. I am not sure how though unless they buggered the cv boot somehow. Anything is possible.
  8. I got everything from e-Bay. What exactly do you need ?? If you got the remote start from Ford, I would think it would come with some very good instructions.
  9. Higher octane would result in higher fuel consumption. High octane fuel burns slower. Unless you get your vehicle reprogrammed to burn a higher octane fuel you will not see any advantage at all. Acetone is a very strong solvent and I can can foresee what happened to Zeus' boss happening to anyone else who tries acetone as well.
  10. You don't need a relay. Its built into your SJB. I posted a copy of the wiring diagram in your other thread.
  11. I got the number from the back of the owners manual. I have a 1-800 number on the investigators card ( it should be the same one ) Transport Canada Safety and Security, Motor Vehicle Defects: 1-800-333-0150
  12. Please, I encourage anyone in Canada to call Transport Canada about this issue. THEY did research and didn't come up with anyone else having PTU issues like ours. Was I the first to call ?? Must be ! This is probably the only way that a recall will happen. TC said that they were going to be taking this issue to Ford, but I cannot see a recall happening unless more people get on board.
  13. Here is a scan of the fog light wiring diagram. This should help a bit.
  14. I got a new PTU in last week. Lets hope it lasts ....
  15. The grill looks like the factory one, just painted. Now the headlights, you can get smoked headlight lens protector. Goes on like window tint. Lots of that stuff floating around on eBay.
  16. Did you install a fuse in the appropriate location (F21, 15A fuse.) ??
  17. Well I was looking at my own copy of the wiring diagrams and I cannot see a real elegant way to do it. The best way I could figure it out would be to use the high beam power as a signal to power a relay to turn on the for lights. I'd guess a diode would be necessary to prevent any backfeeding to the SJB.
  18. No safety issue ? There's 3 as far as I am concerned. 1: What if that little leak becomes a bigger one suddenly. Transmission failure at highway speeds can't be good for you or the driver right behind you when it happens. 2: Breathing in toxic fumes. 3: Potential fire hazard. Hot oil on an exhaust pipe, hmmmmmm Its these reasons that Transport Canada came to my house on Christmas eve to look at it. I am hoping to hear from them this week. In the meantime I encourage anyone with the issue to give them a call. I don't have the number handy, but it is in the back of your manual.
  19. I realize that most of us are under warranty and won't be doing much in the way of major repairs, but I want to stick my neck out here. The mailman brought me a complete set of manuals for a 2008 Edge/MKX ( including wiring diagrams. ). If anyone needs anythng specific, I may be able to help. Keep in mind I work shift work and have dial-up internet. If you need a scan of something, I can give it a try, but it will really depend on its size as to whether I can post or e-mail it. Cheers and have a good new year ! Derek
  20. Do you have automatic climate control ?? If so you have an outside temp gauge ... The unfortunate part is it displays near the climate controls, not in the driver information center ( dash ). That said I have 2 little nits to pick. 1. What was Ford thinking to NOT have a manual mode on these transmissions ! 2. Would be really nice to have the tire pressure displayed in the driver information center.
  21. Agreed. Transport Canada will be looking at this site. I provided them with a link.
