  1. Nope, because ambient lighting didn't appear until the 09 model year and I have the 08 manuals.
  2. I had to tow my VW home once this winter. It did rather well. I am sure I was near the tow limit ( 3500lbs ). I was also in L the whole time and driving very slow. Seemed effortless.
  3. Reminds me of stories of changing the air in your tires from "winter air" to "summer air " :D Don't forget to have your muffler bearings inspected :hysterical2:
  4. I just send TC an e-mail. Here is the response: Hello, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. We discussed the issue with the manufacturer. They indicated that the oil leak has been noticed on a few vehicles. That is why they issued the technical service bulletin (TSB) informing technicians how to properly repair the vehicles. Although quite a few vehicle have experienced the oil leak, non have resulted in a fire. Because there is no fire complaints, we feel that this is not a safety related issue. So we have decided to close our investigation into this issue. We do appreciate you contacting us and allowing us to inspect your vehicle. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Best Regards, Sad. One has to burn for a recall. Hope its not mine !
  5. I have a Curt on my VW for a year now and it is holding up well. When I requested a hitch to be installed on the Edge, it came with a Curt ( odd coincidence ). It would be nice if someone was smart enough to make these in stainless ...
  6. Simple. Not all the fixes are working. Quite a few are being re-fixed ( is that even a word ?? ). Its one of two things. Dealer incompetence in doing the repair correctly or there still is a defect. The NHTSA ( like Transport Canada ) isn't going to be doing much unless they get complaints and more than one at that. When I called TC, they only had one other problem reported about and Edge transmission and it wasn't the same issue.
  7. I have said this before and I'll say it again. This should be a recall. it IS a safety issue. 1. Dripping oil on hot exhaust. HELLO !!!!! Fire hazard anyone ??? 2. Toxicological effects. Breathing in those fumes can't be good for you. Me, I am not so worried, but my kids shouldn't have to breath this stuff in. 3. What if it suddenly turns from a slow drip to a big one ? Toasted transmission at highway speeds aren't fun ( had it happen on another vehicle ). What if it pukes all the oil at once ? What about you or the guy behind driving in an oil slick ? Transport Canada certainly thought it was worth a phone call to Ford. ( will have to call them and find out what the verdict was, never heard back ... ) That said, I still appear to be leak free. I am at the 10km mark. I still think that this is a problem and Ford needs to address this.
  8. I just want to be able to hold a gear while towing. Firming up the shifts would be nice too. Hell, it would be nice just to know what gear I am in. Hey aftermarket !!! You listening ???
  9. If you think the light output of the factory lights is crappy, putting in HID's will make them bright and crappy. Some cars have less light scatter than others after putting in HID's. In my VW, I had aftermarket projector lights installed. HID's went in shortly after. Single best thing I did to that car. You can only polish a turd so much. At the end of the day, its still a turd.
  10. Some cigarette lighter outlets have them. Wonder if the size is similar ? The only thing I can think of is to find a vehicle with one and transplant it.
  11. System fill capacity is 1.74pt or 821ml. I'd use at least two bottles. If you can, I'd buy/make a pressure bleeder. Makes it a one man job and goes quite quickly.
  12. Remove the two screws for the lower splash shield. Release tabs holding bezels.
  13. Thank you, Splitpi. I was going to dig out my books for this, but you nailed it exactly right. I took Marine Engineering and currently work in the Nuclear industry.
  14. There isn't anything that specific. I'd have to look up the wiring for the vehicles without the trailer package and then look it up for those with and compare. I do believe this was covered somewhere, as best as I can remember, all you have to do is add two relays and that wiring is activated. Honestly, I'd just get an aftermarket powered trailer light module and go from there. At least then you'd have the option of going up to a 6 or 7 pole connection. I'll double check when I get to my house though ( I am at my folks' place right now ).
  15. Last night I went out, took off the rubber mat. Looks smooth enough, I said. Stuck the suction cup and voila ! It stayed ! Not ideal as I would like to not have to remove the rubber mat, but its not like I use the nav all the time either.
  16. Sort of ... The heat is providing ALL of the energy. It is the expansion of the exhaust gas as it goes from exhaust pipe to turbine that makes it spin. That is why there is header wrap and thermal blankets for the exhaust side of turbos. Its to retain the heat energy and reduce turbo lag. Thermal expansion.
  17. Where did you put yours ? I don't really like sticking it on the windshield and I would like to avoid sticking a disc on the dash somewhere.
  18. That's pretty cool. I have the same Curt hitch. The fact that it fits over the factory one is neat. You could use the factory one for accessories ( ie. a bike rack ). I like that adapter plug. Have to keep that in mind ...
  19. The only caveat is that your cell phone has to survive the crash in order for things to work. Too bad we didn't have an OnStar type system. Ideally, that would be the best. That said, I'll take the chance and get the upgrade next time I am in.
  20. I guess you could do that. They'd be on all the time. For me that's not much of a problem, but it would be nice to turn them off. It would be as simple as cutting the power wires to the fog lights and running a new wire to the parking lights. I would use a relay though, so it would not tax the parking light circuit anymore than it already is.
  21. Yup, happened to me a few weeks ago. Really easy fix. The only problem for me was they had to order the part and that took a week.
  22. Yes they are. That's assuming you have an 08 and they didn't change the wire colors for some reason.
  23. Couple of months, not too many miles though. ~2000km
  24. Pin 15 ( Grey with violet stripe ) is hot in Start Pin 1 ( White with red stripe ) is Battery Pin 2 ( Blue ) goes to the accessory delay relay. My guess is this is the one you'd need. If my thinking is correct, all you'd have to do is snip the blue wire and you'd solve the problem completely. You would lose the capability of listening to the radio with the key out, but who really does that anyway ? One other thing. There is 10 minute battery run down protection. The radio should shut itself down ( as well as anything else left on ). Hope this helps, Derek
