Well, they replaced the seal again. It was kind of funny - I asked to talk with the mechanic and his first words to me were "this isn't the one we replace the seal on yesterday is it?" The dealer finally admitted they are doing a lot of these - before they said they were only seeing the problem a lot on the Taurus Xs. I noticed on the statement that the part number had a B instead of an A after it, so maybe it is a different seal than last time - they told me it was a different seal that was leaking. The mechanic said his daughter has an 07 that has never had any problems, so he doesn't know why some do and some don't. I suppose it is like anything else - depends on the mold it came out of or something. At any rate - I'll keep posting if/when it leaks again. Some here have mentioned the problem seems to be more in colder weather places, mine has seemed to follow that, but I wonder if it is more an issue of when the PTU is actually sending power to the rear wheels. In warmer/dryer climates, that probsably rarely happens as the front wheels would seldom slip, whereas in the snow and ice, it is happening all the time. Just a thought. I think if it goes again, I'm going to demand they replace all of the axles and PTU to make sure all the parts are new and/or an extended warranty at no cost - I know it is supposedly covered under the 5yr/50,000, but I'd like to see them bump that up to 75k or 100k for my troubles. 3 replacements in 3 months of owning the car is not acceptable.
