  1. I have a few questions about the wheels on the Edge. 1-Are the two styles of the shiny plastic covers interchangable? I have the ones with the equally space spokes but prefer the other style (of course). 2-There is a tv commercial that shows a bright blue Edge with what looks like actual wheels, not wheels with plastic covers. Is this a sport package or something, I never saw one like it at the dealer. 3-Yesterday I read up on the thread here about the plastic wheel covers being bad news. If I actually decide to make a change, would getting new wheels be a better choice than changing out the covers? I live in an area with road salt and lots of it. Thanks for your help.
  2. I have an '08 with the message center. I have it set to where it shows number of miles left in the tank. Does yours have the message center behind the steering wheel? Once I let it go low and the message changed to low fuel warning with a ding. What I did notice when I let it get low was that when it got to be about 50 miles left in the tank it went down fast, so I just did not realize it was actually that low.
  3. Yes, that is what I mean. Thank you so much. I am in IL, so I get all of the weather; rain snow heat cold, this year all in one week. If putting something there would cause water pooling or for the door to not close, I definitely would not want to do that. If street salt got caught in there I would be looking at an ugly rust situation. They were great on my old Blazer, but I am sure not every car is made for them. Does a decal type protector exist?
  4. That is interesting. How bad is the bubbling? Just a little? Does the bumper look like it was replaced or painted? What I understand about plastic bumpers is that if they are damaged they have to be replaced, cannot be repaired well. The truck I just traded in after driving it for 7 yrs was used and it became apparent shortly after I bought it. I was lucky to find a new 2008 Edge for only a bit more than used ones, so I decided to go for it. The commercials for Carfax are very misleading and especially after the insurance adjustor posted that they are unreliable.
  5. A car that new was an auction car? How would it be listed as a mfr vehicle after being a rental car? Is that odd?
  6. I bought AWD. I am not a fan of frontwheel drive and in the winter when it snows staying home is not an option. There is another thread on here where someone with FWD said it is really bad in the snow.
  7. Understood, but still worth checking. Process of elimination for dealing with the warranty people. I would be hot too if my new used car started to rust. Buying a car is like Russian Roulette.
  8. Catching this post late, I see you are fixed. I know what you went thru. My old truck suddenly had squealy brakes all of the time, moving and stopping. And they were new brakes. The noise was embarassing and annoying. My dad kept pulling them apart, finding nothing interesting. It turned out to be the wear sensor. Fell off, got stuck. Put it back, kept falling off. Finally just took it off and threw it away and problem solved.
  9. The picture shows what I have, the upper part has a cover, but the metal below is unprotected. For my old truck I was able to get a cover to avoid scratches in the paint in that area. Is it maybe just not doable?
  10. When you say swap, do mean change what I have? There is something that protects where the carpet meets the doorway, but there is also another area that is just metal that the door closes over. I hope I am making some sense with my description. Also, Lex, I noticed your signature and all of the mods, do you have a pic of this work of art? Wow. Thanks.
  11. Does anyone sell the door sill protectors for the edge? I got them for my old truck from JC Whitney. I cannot seem to find any for the Edge anywhere. Thanks.
  12. Get a carfax report, and if it comes up clean call the state and see if they have any accidents under the vin. I bought an Edge in Feb and traded in my truck that was wrecked bad last July. The report did not show it, and it was $4k of damage. And I believe lemon law only applies to new cars, so unless they sell it as certified or with some guarantee you have no recourse. But I would say unless the dealer can prove there was an accident that the warranty should step in, just my opinion. Maybe it was built on a Friday.
  13. Sounds like bodywork. And not good bodywork. Did you run a Carfax? Be aware they can run REALLY behind, like almost a year. You may be able to check with your state DMV for an accident report. In IL we are required to report over $500.00 damage.
  14. How about using a mini sticky lint remover for clothes?
  15. Are you a Ford mechanic? I promise not to fret about it. Like I need anything else to worry about, right? Thanks for your thoughts.
  16. Thanks for the info. Based on what was said I am screwed. I bought an 08, I live in IL and it is AWD. Rats. I will hope that I will get lucky and it will never happen, but every other car I have ever bought has had problems, they find me.
  17. I read thru parts of this post and some of the posts in the link above. Is this problem inherent to certain years or all AWD? It seems that the problem comes on after 10k miles or so? I just bought one and only have about 1200 miles on it, so thought I would get a clear grasp on this before I may have to deal with it. I will be bummed if I bought a car with problems. That was why I bought a new one in the first place
  18. Have you checked with someone that repairs stone damage to windshields? Based on what I have heard, a replaced windshield is never as safe as the original, so fixing it would probobly be best if it can be done.
  19. Thought I would update this post with some good news. The dealer I purchased from was able to repair the gasket without replacing the spoiler/fin. Took one hour. I was told the replacements were done on the others because if you remove it the clips break and that is it. However, if not repaired it would start making a lot of noise. This particular mechanic figured out how to loosen it, re-seat the gasket and tighten it back up. So if anyone has this problem, find a dealer with someone who has also figured this out.
  20. The latch for the car seat is behind the passenger, I did not find one in the center.
  21. I just had my Edge upgraded with the 911 assist and was charged $49.95 by the dealer. The brochure Ford sent out should have said that there is a charge for it.
  22. Well, I did take it in last Saturday. Two crabby mechanics and the service manager sent me away not knowing what to do and refusing to set a new appointment to fix it. I was promised that they would contact Ford to see what the fix is. They did not. Today I put it in the hands of the dealer I bought it from and they are stumped. Fortunately the guy that sold it to me is awesome and I know he will find the answer. But the whole thing makes me wonder if I made a smart move buying a Ford after driving GM for 22 years. My old Chevy truck was giving me less trouble than the Edge has in the 4 weeks I have had it.
  23. I just bought a new 2008 Edge a month ago and am having this issue. The gasket is coming out from under the tail light but not on either side (yet). Has Ford made any advances with this repair? Can they replace just the gasket yet or am I looking at replacing the entire deflector? I do not like thinking about someone trying to match metallic paint. Thanks.
