  1. The unit needs to be configured, there is a data bit that identifies it as THX, once it is configured you will get the Lincoln logo at start up and things will work ok. Vehicle speed is already active since the previous unit used it for speed sensitive volume and reverse park aid if you have it. If your were in the Dearborn area I could reconfig for you FOC since I have access to the equipment, know the specs, and have done it many times. I have seen somebody on ebay offer this service - think it was about $70 - you ship unit to them with vehicle spec and they program and send it back.
  2. The 3 connectors are the ones that plug into the back of the Nav unit, SYNC is a seperate module located right at the back of the centre consle behind the air vents for rear passengers. What were you trying to do apart from removing existing radio and plugging in the Nav unit ??
  3. Which connectors - the big 52 way on passenger side in center console or the one that connects to the SYNC module at the back of the cconsole ?
  4. I would agree with that if you have a unconfigured NAV/ACM, but the poster says he has a NAV/ACM out of a unit which had SYNC. There are other factors as well eg PAM mute over CAN bus if you have PAM feature. If the unit is previously configured the by doing the wiring changes and using the correct str wheel switch (no OK Button) will get you a fully functional system.
  5. The first person is on the right track, mic cct goes through ACM instead of SYNC and you need to swap the strg wheel switch that he has done. I have done this a few times and it works just fine - full SYNC function. No scan tool config is needed since system self configs at power up. Suggest you keep trying and you may get it, unfortunately I cannot tell you anything further since it not a Ford Engineering/Service approved modification.
  6. If you are looking to make it legal in the UK then you should get the rear light assemblies from Ford Brazil, Edges in Brazil have the yellow rear turn signals like the UK. Or you maybe able to get an exemption from Type Approval on the basis it is a used vehicle used abroad for a certain period of time.
  7. What brand of DVD DL did you use ? I used Memorex DL's and every couple of days I get a disc error and have to key cycle the ign. Burnt 3 discs and they all have this error at some time. Wondering if the brand/quality of the DVD DL is an issue ?
  8. HID's can never be used as DRL's Normally if you have normal H4 bulbs then they are used as DRL's with a lower voltage PWM signal from the SPDJB. HID's will never work at the lower voltage since they will not "strike the arc". The only soln is to use the fog lights as the DRL (all Ford/Lincoln products that have HID's and are sold in Canada use the fog lamps Flex, Navigator, MKT, MKZ etc – if they have HID's then the fog lamps do the DRL part) The only concern would be that those vehicles are homolgated and approved by the Canadian govt to use the fog lamps. If you do it to your Edge – I don't know where you stand from a legal prespective.
  9. The SE with single CD comes with the base audio of 4 very cheap speakers, the units that get navigation get the audiophile system which usually has 9 speakers incl the subwoofer (front door speakers have tweeters in the A pillars, rear door speakers are 2 way with tweeters in main speaker assy). Also the EQ curve in the DSP for the Nav will be set up for the 9 speaker set up. Unless you add the sub, and the tweeters, I'm sorry but it will always sound very poor.
  10. Get a dremel and carefully cut out the storage box, get thick screen door mesh, cut out a piece that overlaps your storage box by about 2 inches and epoxy it to the backside of the quarter panel trim. If you are careful with cutting the storage box out it will look great. Then use the Ford enclosure and speaker there is foam around the speaker, depending on which way the mesh lies you may not even see the grey foam.
  11. Not sure what you mean by having to lengthen the SIRIUS cable from the back. I believe SIRIUS will not work until the new nav unit is configured - needs Dealer tools or you can send it out to a radio shop. For the 3 switches that don't work you on the right track but have a ways to go yet - sorry I cannot be more specific on a public board.
  12. Only the outer black portion comes off (should be part of the new parts you got or can be removed from the old part). The PRNDL section is part of the shifter assy and stay with the shifter. Try pulling it off as I suggested and it's very obvious how it comes apart.
  13. If you have access to dealer diagnostic tools I can tell you how to do it - otherwise Ford dealer.
  14. There are two types of head unit, one has 2 connectors (no sub output) and the 2nd type has 3 connectors and the smallest connector out of the 3 is the sub enable line and sub output. If you do not have the head unit with the 3rd connector you cannot make the sub work, if you have the 3rd connector then the unit has to be configured to subwoofer on, it would not have been previously configured on since you had no sub.
  15. You do not have to remove the shifter, open center console lid and pull up panel from there, pry up as you move forward to center stack and with a little manovering the part will come off (slides over shifter - may help if you have shifter in the N position). To get illuminated cup holders you will also need a ambient lighting module - not worth it in my view.
  16. You have to add more than 1/8 of a tank of gas before the system updates - did you do this (you said gauge shows 1/4 tank) ?
  17. Yes you can, the beeps are from a standalone module behind the rear qtr panel, the only connection to the audio system is a audio mute when the audio levels is greater than 30% volume, the mute is done on the CAN bus to the audio system and I think you will lose this feature but the backup system will still work.
  18. I installed a Pioneer nav in a 2010 over the weekend, the GPS picks up as soon as I am out of the garage, it is possible you have a bad antenna or a bad connection to the back of the nav unit, it is also possible that the antenna is back to front (unlikely if you have not messed with it). If the vehicle is staionary and press 3 & 6 together for approx 5 secs you will get into nav unit diagnostics, look for DTC's that may indicated a bad GPS, you can also view what satellites the system is locked onto.
  19. Yes, the gargage opener is built into the visor all it is looking for is 12v and gnd which you alraedy have coming into your existing visor for the vanity light. It is basically plug and play.
  20. Well basically as I understand it installing the next gen system with travel link etc is more complex and needs a sepearte amp etc. My needs are fairly simple - just basic nav without all the fancy features and interfaces that come with next gen. Also it is easy to buy the Pioneer nav off ebay.
  21. I just purchased a 2010 Edge Ltd and would like to install the Pioneer nav from a 2008 Edge and still have SYNC work. I read a lot on this forum and it's not clear if this is possible. Can anyone offer advice ? Thanks
