I wish our mileage were better, but the wife isn't as easy on the pedal as I am. We have found the edge to be reliable, and we are around 95,000 miles with no major repairs. I would keep the vehicle if it is paid for. Trade-in would hurt, so might as well continue to enjoy the ride.

First off, congrats. Wife and I have same colored 07 Edge FWD that is near 94,000 miles. We hope to get 200k out of it. We have only replaced tires, front left tie rod, front and back brakes, thermostat, battery, and serpentine belt. Heater core and AC hose was replaced under warranty. Other than that, we have had only a trans flush at 54K. Today, I noticed a hiss coming from the power steering and added some fluid since it was low.

Wife and I purchased 07' Edge new, and now, one key fob is acting up. The key will start the car but not unlock the door with the remote. We can manually unlock using the key. It isn't a battery issue and key was apparently run through washer in pants pocket over the winter. Do I need to reprogram key or replace it? Also, if I replace it, can I do it myself with an EBay or Amazon one? Any thoughts would be approached. Thanks!

Batteries may sit awhile awaiting a vehicle to put it in. Also, Motorcraft batteries aren't what they use to be. In the past, I've had decent luck, though I leased a few vehicles. Anyway, Sept. 07', my wife leased an Edge and I purchased an 08' Ranger. Both batteries crapped out w/in 4 years. Neither were replaced with Motorcraft. Why, when other brands were both less costly and better rated?

Old post but to help others, the fuel filter in the Edge (at least the 07's) are built into the tank. Therefore, they are lifetime filters. Not sure why the design was such, but nothing can be done in my eyes. As long as the tank holds, all is well, I guess.

Forgot to add that Edge's are still pretty new to see very high miles. The most I've seen was one at the dealer for sale with 179,000. I hope to get 200K miles out of ours. I understand that the motor is pretty good. We have the 3.5 Liter V6 and pretty impressed thus far. We bought out our lease in 10'and besides regular maintainence only driver tie-rod and engine belt replacement.

If I understand correctly, the K&N and other similar filters are over oiled by mistake by consumers, which cause the MAF sensor problems. I personally do not believe in those filters, and my replacement filters have always suited me fine. I have owned Rangers, and my wife has an 07' Edge. Sears/Kmart sells Spectrum brand air filters and Wal-Mart sells mostly Fram. I think Autozone or Advance had a sale on Motorcraft air filters, so I bought a replacement there. With 74,000 trouble free miles on my 08' Ranger and nearly 95,000 miles on our 07' Edge, I have noticed no gains or losses with replacing air filters every 15,000 miles or so. Also, I don't believe in the MPG hype gain. If K&N filters were so good, wouldn't they be OEM? Ford, for instance, doesn't manufacture Sylvania bulbs, yet uses they in the head and tail-lights. Just my .02.

Not only a good shelf life, but how often does a watch-type battery wear out? I just replaced the batteries in both our key fobs for the first time. Luckily, I bought a two pack and what is the chance of both going simultaneously? I hardly drive the vehicle since it is the wife's. Another reason why it is shocking that the new battery worked in her key fob but not mine.

The key fob battery is to unlock the power doors and not to start the vehicle. I have an issue that changing the battery hasn't solved. Our 07' Edge wasn't unlocking so I replaced the battery with a brand new one. That hasn't helped unlocking or locking the car, but the key works fine starting the vehicle and manually unlocking. Ironically, there seems to be no corrosion inside the key fob where the battery goes, so I'm at a loss. I would think that the key would totally work or totally fail. What gives?

It depends on the circumstance because like others I try to park where only 1 car can park next to me. If I shop early in the morning, I like to park close and by a curb, but later in the day, I tend to park farther away because of the crowds. I try to park away from someone who is too close to the line, over the line, or that drives an absolute crappy vehicle since they are more likely to ding mine. Overall, though, it is luck, and I know that a vehicle can't stay new forever. In addition, most of the scratches are from me anyway.

My wife and I own a 2007 Edge, and I think that I replaced both rear turn signals twice -- mainly when the vehicle was new and leased. Knock-on-wood ours has been fine for a couple years now, and we even bought out our lease. Our wiring does look a little burnt, but it has never smelled like a fire. We never had anything replaced concerning the wiring. I don't know what an advantage over an LL bulb vs. a standard one, and Sylvania is the brand I typically use. Also, those bulbs are known by different names and stock numbers -- our manual says that the proper bulb is a 4157, but functionality it is the same as a 3157, which is the same as a 3157A or a 3157LL, etc. It is a very common auto bulb, and in fact is the same one my Ranger uses for it's rear turn signals. I'm not a fan of L.E.D. lights, and I think that a little research online might answer some questions. It seems that driver's have either a love or hate relationship with them.

Any Double-Din radio would work. My wife and I have an 07' Edge, and we had issues with our radio, but I had a guy fix the radio backlight for under $100. I found out later that Sonix Electronics online (Google search) sells darn near OEM replacement radios for the Edge for less than $100 + free shipping. They even include the bracket needed, and one thing about their radio is it contains a jack for an I-Pad connection. I'm not sure what you mean by dashboard light problem. I hate all those stupid lights mandated by the government because it makes the driver question them. For instance, the traction light may come on and simply mean low tire pressure, but which tire? I still have to check all four. Plus, if the check engine light were to come on, it is so generic that I still need a code reader to figure it out. Some vehicles let the driver know that a headlight burnt out (I don't think the Edge is one of them). Anyway, drivers don't realize that the bulbs on the dash burn out, and that could cause a light to illumininate prematurely. Also, a fuse can blow -- even if it looks good. Therefore, a little trial-and-error needs to be performed.

I have an 07' Ford Edge, and I recently replaced both headlights with Sylvania 9007/H11 replacement bulbs. Overall, I was pleased with it not taking too long to accomplish. I started with the passenger side for practice and had no issues, but then the driver's side was a bitch!! I practically had to tear the old bulb out, and I broke the stupid plastic clip (really serves no purpose since the bulb snaps in anyway). Yesterday, I had to replace both headlights in my 08' Ranger, and it was 10 times worse and took me over an hour. I had two metal tabs on each side that I had to lift, and then, I had to remove the whole headlight assembly housing. When I went to put things back, I couldn't get the screws to align and the tabs placed correctly. I had the same issue with the bulbs -- the passenger side was pretty easy, but the driver side I broke the plastic clip. Also, the Ranger has a strange gas-can like circled cap that screws on to protect the bulb in the housing, and I couldn't get that on either. Overall, I replaced four headlights on two vehicles in less than a month (more than I've had to do in the last ten years). I should be set for a while.

I say that the Ford Edge is more of a 'chick car', but who really cares. My wife originally leased her 07' before we got married. She is a big Browns fan and naturally opted for the copper orange. Anyway, we bought out the lease, and although she drives to and from work in the Edge, I always drive when we are together -- church, out-to-eat, shopping, etc. We have a 33 month old son, and size wise, it is perfect for our needs. In our area, I think, more women than men drive it. However, I will take it to work when she is off or use it to shop because it is a very nice ride, and she doesn't put her own gas in (unless she absolutely has to).
