  1. It will need to be programmed, chances are the vehicle won't even start if you swap in a different cluster due to the cluster having the information for the PATS(security key) in it.
  2. Don't really see the need for the nerf bars and think they look completely out of place. The moldings, while useful, detract from the clean look...o rmaybe it's the nerf bars doing that
  3. Like I said earlier total system oil charge is 4 ounces. The proper way to do it is to drain the compressor and then flush the rest of the system and then add 4 ounces of oil
  4. If I am not mistaken it is actually part of the condensor and has a replaceable desicant bag.
  5. That's not the same unit that comes in the Edge
  6. Don't get me wrong I think the Edge is a very good vehicle otherwise I wouldn't have bought one. The only reason BMW maintenance charges can get expensive is because most of the people who own them don't know where to get them serviced other than a dealership or a specialty BMW shop where they charge sky high prices. BMW parts aren't any more expensive then any other vehicle but people are willing to pay more for them. Actually I am surprised alot of times on just how inexpensive some of the replacememtn parts can be. Any vehicle that you keep in PROPER operating condition for 180,000 + miles is going to start to cost alot of money when it comes right down to it. What drew you to the BMW in the first place and what exactly, other than cost, is drawing you to the Edge now?
  7. Ac is a simple yet complex system, if you recharge it with one of those store bought recharge kits then you run the risk of really messing up the system. Alot of those kits also have leak sealer in them that can cause hell with a ac system. Chances are the ac system isn't completely empty and if you use one of those kits you will overcharge it. Normnally a ac system doesn't lose oil, even with a very large leak the amount of oil that is lost is myabe an ounce or 2, if you recharge with one of the kits that has a couple of ounces in it then you will overcharge the system with oil which can and will cause damage. Another thing to keep in mind that all pag oil is not the same, there are different weights adn using the wrong oil cna be catastrophic. Too much ac oil in the system causes poor cooling and can drastically shorten the life of the compressor. Todays ac ssytems are very critical on correct refrigerant charge, this can not be accomplished by looking at gauge pressures, there are 2 many variables involved that makes it impossible for the diyer to even come close to being right. Your best bet is to return what you bought and have a professional do it.....chances are it will save you money in the long run. I do ac for a living here in Arizona so I know what I am talking about, a little more money spent now will save you a bunch in the long run. FWIW total system oil charge is 4 ounces.
  8. Comparing an Edge to an X5...now that's rich. The X5 will kill the Edge in every aspect. I don't own an X5 but I have worked on plenty of them and there just isn't any comparison. If your looking for a vehicle to compete with the X5 you will be sorely disappointed
  9. I agree that 26k isn't expensive.....for me, but for a full time student with 2 children and daily living expenses and has already said that new vehicle is too expensive leads one to belive that money is tight. If the OP is needing a roomy vehicle that is dependable I can name off a dozen or so that will get the job done at probably 1/2 the price...let's start with a 2007 Edge.
  10. If your not interested in any of the additional items than there is no reason to buy the LTD. Myself I had no desire for awd, vista roof or the power liftgate...I'm a mechanic by trade and know very well how problematic these systems are and what it takes to fix them and didn't want to put up with it. If someone tells you that they can make you a better deal on a LTD vs a SEL then all they want to do is sell you more vehicle while not giving you a good price on the lesser equipped vehicle...dealers do this all the time.
  11. Of course it does. This is physics in it's simplest form. If you add rotating mass and contact area the vehicle will require more power to acheive a certain speed, when this happens you use more gas. The flip side to that coin is that your brake life is also affected...more rotational mass is harder to stop therefore reducing brake life.
  12. Full time student with 2 children...I'm sorry but you have no business buying this expensive of a vehicle. Sounds like this vehicle was in a very serious accident...they didn't discover anything they knew it all along. If you buy this vehicle then be warned that this may possibly be the worst decision you have ever made in your life
  13. You should be worried about the alignment and also about the wheel balance and the possible chance for a bent rim. I recommend that you get the alignment checked and the tire balanced , when they balance it they will be able to tell if is is bent or not. I wouldn't be surprised if the alignment was out also.
  14. Ordered a set of the Night Vision 6000K from Retro Solutions. They showed up in 2 days and I put them in on Sunday. Install is very easy however if you aren't automotive savy hooking up the relay harness may be a bit confusing. Nothing fancy here, Ford gives you perfect places already equipped with bolts to mount the ballasts adn hide the wiring. This isn't the first set of hids that I have installed but it is the first time that I have put hids in non projector housings. The pattern is "ok" but is nowhere near what a projector will give you....naturally, but it is workable. The housing design focuses the light well enough that there shouldn't ever be any issues with blinding oncoming drivers unless you get stupid and throw something over 6000k in, I'm actually thinking about adjusting my lights up just a tad. Now the overall light output and increased visibility is naturally a dramatic increase and if you have never driven with hids then you will be shocked if you install these. ANd lets not forget to mention that they make the front end look 1000% better when the lights are on...no more dingy yellow halogen.
  15. Unless Ford made a huge change when they went to the hard drive based system it does not "self configure". I have had customers with this very issue and it was all solved by simply inputting the correct info via scan tool.
  16. The unit MUST be reconfigured with the factory scan tool...there is no other way.
  17. 2002 Pontiac Firebird WS6, 2004 Dodge Magnum R/t, 2006 Lexus IS350, 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac V8...I bought all these vehicles new and not one of them ever acheived better fuel mileage after "breaking in"...maybe I'm just not lucky. Out of all of them the Lexus got the best mileage. The wife and I are going to Las Vegas in 2 weeks so I'll be courious to see what the mileage does...although not really expecting much...leaving at night and the Edge loves to do 90.
  18. We are getting 19.1 mpg, all in town (I live in Phoenix and use surface streets to go to work 12 miles one way) and that is with the wife driving who is always in a hurry to get somewhere. I think this is really good for this vehicle especially since our 2008 Sport Trac was getting 14 mpg in town. The best mpg we ever got in a vehicle was in out 2006 Lexus IS350, that thing got 22 mpg in town and 28 mpg on the freeway.
  19. With incentives and some shrewd dealing you should be able to get a new one for not much more money than a 2009
  20. Thanks that clears it up. I wonder if moving the tweeters up really makes that much of a difference? I guess when I change the speakers I'll play with tweeter positioning adn see what sounds best to me.
  21. Ok now I am confused. I have the NAV and the premium audio in my 2010 SEL and yet I DO NOT HAVE A-PILLAR TWEETERS. Do the a-pillar tweeters only come in the Limited and Sport and the SEL with premium audio gets the door midrange/tweeter???
  22. Ford had alot of issues early on with SYNC and NAV together and I think in the early part of 2008 you could only get SYNC OR NAV but not both in the Explorer, that's the way it was on my Sport Trac which is essentially a Explorer. Eventually they did get it all figured out adn it was an option for late 2008 vehicles...I think. Now here is where it may get tricky. In order for one of these units to properly work in another vehicle that it was also designed to go in it has to be reconfigured with an IDS, Ford's scan tool, for the appropriate vehicle. I have done this on other Ford products so I know 100% that it will work. You will have to find an independant repair facility with an IDS and someone there that really knows how to use it because I don't think a dealership will do this. There are people on Ebay that do this also. The major issue though is that your vehicle had to be able to be optioned with SYNC and NAV together.
  23. And 1 17" wheel on my 2008 Sport Trac lists for a tad over $400 bare...that don't make it worth it. Point is that all mfg's seriously inflate the price of their wheels.
  24. Are you sure that they are forged? Ford only advertises 1 wheel option, a 20", that is forged. The other options they don't specify so one would assume that they are cast because forged would be a big selling point.
