92merc Posted November 16, 2006 Report Share Posted November 16, 2006 It's technically a whole new engine. The design was based off the 3.0L Vulcan. But in my opinion, there is enough substantial changes you can say it's a new engine. It's not just a bored/stroked 3.0 and throw VVT/VCT for good measure. The 3.5 is also redesigned such that it will be bumped up to a 3.7L version for the Lincoln's, at least short term. I think the MKS is what's getting the 3.7 first.
