ryjay7887
First off, brand new to the forum and a proud owner of a 2007 edge sel plus as of yesterday. I'm very suprised on how poor the audio quality is. I traded in a 2008 base model dodge charger and the stock sound system (4 speakers) blew this one out of the park. My edge does not have the factory subwoofer so I imagine it's a 4 speaker setup as well. It does have the navigation head unit. Any updates that I can do aside from throwing a $500 sub box in the back for better lows and mids? In the past, when I just replace the door speakers, I only get improved trebble. Maybe it's the insides of the doors that don't help with the sound quality? I don't know. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
akirby
Have you checked all of the sound settings? Do that first. Replacing the door speakers can help even with mid-bass depending on what you get. Infinity Kappas are popular as are Polk Audio and they're not super expensive. Do that first, then see if you need a separate sub.
ryjay7887
Yes, I adjusted the eq settings the best that my head unit would allow (only trebble and base adjustment available). Im suprised that a higher end "ford" headunit is so limited in sound adjusting. Maybe I will try some new speakers like you said. I came across some kicker components. Is there a tweeter hole already available somewhere in the edge?
akirby
Not unless you already have the triangles at the top front of the door panel - they hold the tweeter for the component setups. Don't remember if those were available on the 07 Edge. You can easily add them to the A pillar if you want to go components for the front. Ā What was DSP set to? All seats, driver or rear? ryjay7887
All seats
akirby
Try Driver, although it won't make a huge difference.
fishx65
I would try replacing the front speakers first and see what you think. Funny thing is, the basic speakers in the 2010 and below Edges are way better then the ones in the 2011 and up.
ryjay7887
It's just amazing to me that the sound quality is so poor in these great vehicles. My base model charger blows this one out of the water. Guess I'll try replacing the fronts and see where that gets me.
