stevoh22
Hi All, I was planning on wrapping the rear bumper of my Edge with clear paint protection film (same as normally used on front of the car) to protect from scratches when leaning things against bumper. However owners manual indicates the BLIS sensors located behind the bumper should not be covered with bumper stickers. Is the paint film likely to cause any performance issues with the BLIS sensors? Thanks in advance\
akirby
I wouldn't think so but it's easy enough to test.

Yes, but testing would involve spending some money to have film installed, only to have it removed it it causes a problem with the sensor. Was hoping someone may have some experience with this. WingNut
Why not just cut out around the sensors after installed?

Why not just cut out around the sensors after installed? That should do the trick.
stevoh22
Why not just cut out around the sensors after installed? The BLIS sensors are located behind the bumper fascia and are not visible from the outside. They are located somewhere near the corners, but the dealer has indicated their exact location can vary between vehicles as Ford makes adjustments to improve performance of the BLIS system. The small round sensors that are visible are the parking assist sensors. These can be cut around.

Then my guess is if they can put the sensors behind the fascia, an extra layer of 3M paint guard won't make a difference. Thanks for the info. Thanks for the info. That would be my first impression as well, and what I was planning on doing until I read the manual. The manual has a specific statement in it stating not to put things like bumper stickers on the bumper as it will affect the sensor operation. Since paint film is thicker than a bumper sticker then presumably it would affect the sensors as well. It's all a bit unclear, hence my question here to see if anyone had any experience with this. cds71
My guess is that some bumper stickers have a silver metalic reflective backing and I could see those as being a problems......This is just a theroy. I have 3m clear bra on my front end and I havent had any issues(the disk part of the sensors are covered as well). I dont think the thickness is the issue, but more the reflective nature as being the problem(as above stated)....like a microwave and foil.
