harlanhml
Had right front strut plate replaced at 98,000 miles under warranty. While at rest and turning the steering wheel slightly left/right a clicking or popping sound could be heard. They replaced the right side but I am not so sure the left side may be having the same issue. I can reach under the fender a put my hand on the top of the spring near the plate, turn the steering wheel and feel the spring "jump" which is the noise heard inside. More to follow after some more miles.
macbwt
Strut bearing mount has failed. The good rule of thumb is to replace the struts and strut bearing mounts in pairs. Use OEM motorcraft strut bearing mounts. I have had other aftermarket mounts fail. Your best choice of struts will be MC or KYB
REDSPORT
I am just in the process of replacing my front struts. I purchased the Monroe Quick-Struts and installed them myself. The drivers side was making the same noise you are talking about. You could observe that as the wheel was turned the spring would move about half an inch and then snap back making a clunking noise. This was a brand new Monroe strut assembly! I have just sent it back for replacement. I hope the replacement is better. The other side was fine. Its obviously the upper mount bearing assembly is defective. I bought the whole assembly so it would be easier to install and thought the mount or the springs would have to be replaced soon anyway. My 2010 Edge Sport has 170,000 Kms or 105,000 miles.

Be ready to replace the replacement monroe.
addisonm06
Definitely Agree with Macbwt; i just replaced both front mounts and struts with all Motorcraft OEM and have not had a single issue.
