Jetboy47
I bought a service manual online for my 2023 ST and near the end of the drain and refill procedure it says once the leveling plug is put back in to add 2 pints. I've watched many videos on you tube and have yet to see anyone mention this. Below are steps 17 and 18 from the manual: 17. Install the oil leveling plug. Torque : 30 lb.ft (40 Nm) 18. Add 1L (2 pt) of clean transmission fluid. Material : Motorcraft® MERCON® ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-12-QULV (WSSM2C949- A, ) Can anyone else confirm that adding the extra two pints is correct. I wonder if they realized they needed to add more than they recommended in the past...
boostededge
Can confirm the 2019 ST FSM says the same thing. I'm getting ready to do my first fluid change at ~40K and will follow the FSM exactly. Edited September 4 by boostededge
dabangsta
That is the 8F57 specs (full plus 1 quart), the 8F35 is just fill to the bottom of the sight plug.

kruzr1
That's interesting. My service manual doesn't say anything about adding fluid after installing the level plug. My service manual (on a CD) shows a published date of October 2018. Wonder if there was a revision to this procedure?
boostededge
Heres from the 2019 Edge ST FSM. This one is a little easier to read than the 2022 one that was posted in the other thread. Both have you adding 1 quart at the end, after you install the leveling bolt for the final time. The 2022 one posted has more info on going through gears though and is not mentioned in the 2019 one. 2019_edge_transmission.pdf Edited September 5 by boostededge
kruzr1
thanks for posting those instructions. They are almost the same as mine except for the real pictures and the steps to add the additional fluid. I did notice there was a procedure revision date of 09/24/2021 so that explains my manual discrepancies. Perhaps I need to go back and add some fluid although I haven't noticed any drivability concerns. Or did this have something to do with the change from an 8 speed to a 7 speed transmission? boostededge
I confirmed with Bellevue Ford tech that their service manual says the same about adding 1L once full to the 2019+ ST.
