2012 Ford Edge Limited

I have a 2012 Ford Edge Limited. In May I was driving on the highway and the car just dies. Get it towed and since the battery was being drained we replaced the alternator. After the Alternator we replaced the spark plugs and coil caps. And also got a new battery. We drained and replaced the oil also. Now car will start but when you shift it to drive nothing happens, press the gas pedal and nothing happens. Any clues as to what it could be now?

No we have not scanned it yet. Alternator was the starting point. And after it was replaced I was told that I had to replace spark plugs and coil caps due to them being covered in oil and one of them was misfiring which had the car idling rough after Alternator was replaced and it was still cutting off once put in drive. And the car wasn't running long enough for the check engine light to come on after Alternator was replaced so we couldn't scan

When replacing the alternator, it's possible to disconnect the shift cable linkage underneath the air filter box. One possible way to check this is if the  shifter moves smoothly but the transmission lever on doesn’t move. if this is the problem, remove  the air filter housing box to look deep at the top of the transmission. Look for the shift cable. It terminates with a small metal lever with a plastic bushing. If the cable is hanging loose just snap it back on.

Another possibility is low voltage to the electronic shift solenoids. If the alternator power wire accidentally  grounds against the frame during installation, it could have blown a fuse killing the transmission control module.  Check fuse 56 (or whichever fuse controls the TCM in your car.)
