How To Play USB Tracks In Order 2024 Edge SEL

Recommended Posts

My 2024 Edge SEL does not have a CD player...none do.

We have a ton of audiobooks on CD that we listen to when traveling.

I tried an external CD player but it would not work in the Edge.

Sooooooooooo,

I copied 25 audio books from CDs to flash drive. converting to MP3 format, FAT 32 filing system on the thumb drive. USB 2.0

When inserted, the files do not come up with the same structure as the USB drive displays on my PC.

I do NOT have random play enabled.

The playback started automatically with a book way down the list.

I manually advanced the tracks, but, after disc 3 (out of 5) it moved to another book!

But I cannot figure out haw to play the tracks in order.

I have played with the repeat setting, and sometimes the book will move to the nest track, but then i twill jump 2 tracks the nest time....

When playing with this before, somewhere I had come across a menu of settings, one of which was "Play All"

That had worked, but I am not able to find that menu now.....

SOMEWHERE there is a menu...............

How does the USB device interface with SYNC ??

Thanks for any help......

  • Ronno6 changed the title to How To Play USB Tracks In Order 2024 Edge SEL

Here is a new wrinkle:

I can play tracks in order, EXCEPT playback will skip track 4 and 8 (no track 11, so dunno....)

And, the Edge will plat discs 1,2,and 3 then omit disc 4 and 5..... I think it has a problem with the number 4..

I spent about an hour on the phone with Ford Customer Support today and HE can't figure it out, either....

WHY do these things always happen to ME ???

.WAV files will play in order.............except.............

The dreaded track numbering system rears its ugly head.

Track #1 will play, then jump to Track #10,11,12..etc.

I have put zeros in front.........the audio system just ignores them.

Plays 1, 10, 11 etc.....

I have even renumbered the tracks to start with 11,but the audio system ignores that.

Must be something in the ID Tags..........

Next up will be an MP3 player thru USB

Then using Blu Tooth.

But I am concerned that using BT for audio will not allow using my cell ph. for calls or nav.............

By default, SYNC 4 plys each reach in alphabetical order (even when playing by album.)  The system sorts by filename in ASCII code.

To get the system to pay each single in a specific order, you must rename the title to be read in the specific order you choose.

The BEST way to achieve this is to rename your songs with numbers, i.e. "01 Tammy.mp3", "02 Sitting in the back seat with Fred. mp3", "03 I sold my heart to the junkman.mp3", etc.

Use a preceeding zero on numbers below 10 to avoid 10 or 100 playing before 2, etc.

Organize the music into clear directory to make it easier to follow on the touchscreen:

Root Folder: "Pop Music"

Subfolder: "60's hits"

Album Name: "Girl Groups"

>"01 Tammy.mp3"

>"02 Sitting in the back seat with Fred. mp3"

>"03 I sold my heart to the junkman.mp3"

etc.

Plug the jumpdrive into the USB-A or USB-C port located in the center console,

>Audio

>Sources

>USB

>Select by Folder, Artist, or Album (make certain "Shuffle" is disabled.)

This should work perfectly.

I think 🙂

I wish that it did.......

I have renumbered tracks 01, 02, 03, etc, but the audio system still reads as 1, 10, 11, etc.

This is using .WMA format I think......

The Edge audio does not like the #4 in MP3.......

It will play track 1, then 2, then 3 then 5......It will skip 8 as well.

Same goes for disc #..Disc 1, then 2 then 3, then move on to a completely different book !!

I am considering an MP3 player, but need to connect to USB from an audio out (head phones ) jack.

If I  playback via Bluetooth, i believe I will not be able to use my cell phone for navigation...

Why can't anything...... JUST WORK ?????

Its my limited understanding that Sync plays the mp3 files in order determined by the value in the "Track" field of the ID3 tag. If it is not populated (think #4) then I think it plays it alphabetically based on the name of the track in the ID3 tag.

You have to populate the Track # field with just a number ("01") and not a track x of x ("1/12" or "4/12").

Boy, the more technologically advanced we get, the stupider technology seems to become.  I simply do not have the patience to go to that much trouble to make my music play in the intended order.  It is insanely crazy that something so seemingly simple seems to be impossible to accomplish.  Bring back the 8 track tape baby!

Now I enter into yet another spec: audiobook file transfer protocol.

I want to use .mp3 format.

But, the transfer protocol in which the mp3 player downloads files from the computer is either MTP or MSC protocols.

I do not know if the Edge audio system will recognize and play files transferred  using either, or, of both...

Geez I wish this thing had a CD player.....

Research has shown that the FM adapter will tune down to 87.5mhz.

There are no FM stations below 87.9, and there are only 2 on that frequency-both in California.

I am in the Southeast, and travel only to Texas, so no problem with local station conflicts....

USB cable has the best sound quality, so I will try that first.

That's the plan. I am waiting on delivery of a cable to connect the headphone jack to the USB port.

Then, we'll see what we'll see, won't we? (Under Siege...)

Audio and power are handled by separate cables.

The manufacturer suggests playback using the player's battery...up to 70 hours, supposedly.

Then recharge only when needed.

It will be interesting to see how they interface.

Mr. Pete,

Now you have me curious.....

The USB connection is charging and data transfer.

If I use that as the only connection, maybe the Sync system will control the MP3 player as you say...

The MP3 player will play tracks on the computer, but only using a media player program.

I have been planning on audio only from the player to the Edge as if it was an AUX input.....

Playback being controlled by the MP3 player....This is the method given in the MP3 player instructions.

I need to do a little playing.....

As an experiment, I connected my MP3 player to the audio system via USB from MP3 player to USB input of the Edge.

The result was the same as with the flash drive.

It played tracks 1,2,3m then jumped over 4 and went to 5.

Obviously there is something amiss with the ID tags.

I didn't check to see if ie would play all the discs or not...........that point be moot.

I believe that the MP3 player will play all the tracks and discs in order, so I'll connect the audio out to USB when my cable arrives today.

This will be the last gasp attempt for using MP3...except for the FM adapter...

Well, THAT didn't work,either..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Apparently the Sybc4 system has no provision for a dumb AUX port via USB......

Seems that this 'smart" system is smarter than I......

OK On to the FM transmitter adapter.........
