Kaysr07
Hello all! Tried posting on other forums and haven't had much luck, I am trying to retrofit sync 3 into my 13 edge limited i have the module and screen from a 17 escape along with the usb, I know about the brackets so not worried about them, but when plugging it in and turning the car on i get a black screen, the right side of the cluster is working but wont let me turn on audio or connect a phone or use navi, the sw controls wont work and radio controls on the climate control wont light up but for a second then go dim, when i hit the power button or turn the volume up and down i get nothing i am able to program as built data to the apim but anything i change doesn't work when i feel like it should be working since i can edit data and get no apim errors. Just a black screen could the screen be bad? Ive used my as built data ive use a 2017 edge data a 2017 flex data and the original 17 escape data and nothing has worked not sure what im doing wrong if anything, I have also edited the acm and sccm thinking it could be something in those modules, or possibly could be vin locked if that's a thing, would really like to get this going but i dont know where to really start. dabangsta
Where did you source the screen and APIM from? The screen only connects to the APIM using that 4 pin LVDS cable, is that plugged in? If it doesn't really work, but you can communicate with it using Forscan, then it could be a bad screen, cable, or not plugged in. Also not all APIMs can control an 8 inch screen, some are for smaller format screens (Transit Connect comes to mind). I did this update to my 2016 MKZ, I decided to go with a ~$300 kit from China, as a bonus they did use my VIN and AsBuilt data to enable all my options (ambient lighting, cooled seats, active park assist, etc), but I did go and change some things like the startup sequence. I had to modify my screen mount, but otherwise it was plug and play.
Kaysr07
I got the screen and apim from the same 2017 ford escape, my car is a 2013 Ford edge with sync 2. I've wiggled the cable in the back, unplugged and plugged it back in, also did this to all cables and harnesses. That's what I was thinking, just plug it in, edit your as built and should be good to go lol not too worried about the VIN unless that might be causing it not to start, i haven't used the Ford pass in a long time so not really missing it 😅 just really want car play and the new features it bings to the car I'll order a screen and see if that helps. Does it matter what part number I get for a screen as long as it fits? Should I also order the lvds cable thing as well. Thank you very much for the insight. I did get this out of a junk yard car so it's very possible that the screen is out just want to make sure that's what it before spending all kinds of money.
Samurai Edge
How do you know for a fact that the sync3 you took out of the 2017 Ford Escape is directly compatible with your 2013 Edge? Something is not talking to something else correctly, hence your problem. Consider researching how to reset the 2017 Ford Escape sync3 so that it can be reset / talk to work in your 2013 Ford Edge. Wubster100
1. Can you do an APIM self test? 2. Are you able to see the part number, calibration level, strategy, calibration, total distance?

I don't for a fact, only assuming rn, there were other people on another forum that did the exact same thing as I'm doing, but they got there's to work. I could see them not being compatible, because the edge has 2 screens in the cluster where the escape has only one but idk if that would make a difference or not. I agree I'm not not sure what it's not talking to. When I configure the apim to my car I don't get any errors but if I leave it to the stock escape I have configuration errors. it's just like it doesn't want to turn on. I've edited the steering wheel control module, the audio control module and bcm and gotten no change, and not sure what else I need to change, I will do some research on the part number and see if it cross references to the edge. I've searched how to reset it can't really do to much without the sw control front audio controls or the screen. I also went to the Ford website and downloaded the sync 3 update, stuck the USB in to see if it would update automatically, waited 45 minutes to an hr and got nothing as well

I have tried to do the apim test on forscan, for some reason it gives me an incapable communication error and stops it's self, yes I can see most of that except the total distance on the module side of forscan, enough tho it shows my vin and not the escapes vin
