Valentine V1 install (Invisicord)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Blendmount unit and "invisicord" connection to put in my 2007 Edge SEL+. (for Valentine V1 install) I will be going into the back of the plug for the self dimming mirror. Has anyone done this on a 2007? I figure the black wire is the ground, but unsure which color is the switched 12V power. I did see it done on a 2008 he used the black for ground and blue/pink for 12v.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Will put up pics of my Valentine hard wire mount tomorrow. Cant help with wire colors as I ran it from the fuse box.

Thanks Kempie...

Got info from local Ford dealer...if you want to connect from mirror plug...use BLUE/ORANGE for power (12V) and BLACK for ground, They are next to each other in the plug.

I'm here to tell you folks...INVISICORD.COM...it is the BOMB....along with a BLENDMOUNT.COM bracket....no one can tell you're running a unit...custom!

come on... this thread is worthless without photos.. lets see it :)

love the idea of low profile hidden clean wiring, you can see that (or not) in wiring projects I have done and posted here. The setup you mention looks awesome.. costs about $110 + ship for those 2 items, but pretty slick and clean install.

FYI, eBay has some low profile wiring options as well and they have the blendmount kit + wiring option more affordably then direct buy.

Lex...

I don't have a pic of mine..but the stock photo is pretty much right on...it's not completely hidden, but you need to be really looking to notice.

As far as price, you can get the mount from Blendmount off eBay for $69 + $5.55 shipping and order the Invisicord directly from Invisicord.com for $15 delivered. Cheaper than the kit on eBay.

I was looking at some cords for about $9 delivered and the mount at 69+5 ship so not much cheaper I admit.... and then like the cord + mount kit for about 89 out the door, or about a wash. They real savings seems to be in the corded power source, but in a bit closer number crunching, it is about a wash

BUT, if your like me and use eBay Bucks and Bing Cash Back, you can make it cheaper in the end to use eBay :)

I love this idea, but DAMN those valentine one v1's are NOT cheap

BTW, I wanted to see your photos of it in the Edge, just to see it car mounted so I can see what it looks like in our car versus the generic imagery

I'll try and get a shot of it...the main difference is the cord goes into the back of the mirror and the compass unit kind of helps it blend in. The Mount and Invisicord install is only few minutes, real simple.

I got my V1 off eBay (I use bucks too) for a fairly good savings over buying it directly from Valentine, pristine unit like new, only a month old. BTW...in case you didn't know Valentine sells brand new units for $399 with everything, some are selling on eBay for as much as $500 :headscratch:

yeah I noticed that crazy price discrepancy, you have to be a tard to pay above retail, and I simply have a policy against buying retail - I don't do it. looks like 200-250 could get you in the door on that unit.

BTW, why did you choose that over any other model?

Also, is yours 1.7 or the latest 1.8 version circuitry?

After doing some research it seemed all the serious car people recommended the V1 with the Escort 9500IX and Bel GX-65 right there too. The Escort & Bel are GPS enabled so that could sway some folks, but I liked the features of the V1...The arrows that point to the source and the multiple "bogey" counter which tells you how many signals it's tracking to name a couple.

Mine is the new 1.8 with all the snap, crackle and Euro POP shades.gif

I tracked the auctions on eBay for a while before I pulled the trigger and looks like a really clean updated unit with most or all of the accessories were going for a little over $300.

I used a bendable piece of what I think was an old fog light mount to slide under the V1 cup bracket and then slide under the headliner. Ran the wire under the headliner & down the w/s pillar to the fuse box. I also use the concealed display so no lights visible from the rear.

here is an example of a huge savings over the official invisicord...

VALENTINE ONE 1 V1 Radar Direct STEALTH MIRROR CORD Kit for about $10 shipped versus $30 for the official "invisicord". THIS seems like a reasonable price for what that product really is.. $30 seems outrageous.

I like the mirror mount, but like the idea of it above the mirror - like kempi's method, which I could easily make my own as I am handy like that - even better as it seems hanging down below the mirror seems like it cuts off some viewing

I asked this question early last year and IIRC the Valentine was highly mentioned. I just never followed through. Now that I see I can do an invisicrd type option - not that brand as per above - I can get that nice clean mount system and make my own mount like Kempie as I like it better than the hanging mirror option.

So, doing the eBay dance for a 1.8 with POP as if I am going to do this, I want the newest circuity.. does not have to be new radar, but newest technology for sure.

Lex...

One of the V1's advantages is the rear detection... too high... and you limit this option! Just below the rear view mirror is the best place for this unit on an Edge...trust me!

Talk to me about the Invisicord/Blendmount install...Cary @ Invisicord is a good dude...$15 delivered...not $30!...stands behind his stuff!

The V1 seems like a great detector. I figured I'd share a pic of my whistler 3450 install. For people with the SE model the in dash bracket is a pretty good fit for the blank buttons. Works fairly well, It's no V1, but I didn't want anything on my dash or window.

I was under the impression that the higher you had the detector the better the reception from the front. Since that is where 90+% of the alerts come it from seems like a good place to put it. Plus it isnt so visiable from the outside.

Higher is better...but I like the look (and stability) of the mirror mount and it allows for perfect rear detection.

I know most alerts are from the front, but I like to maximize one of the better features of the V1, which is the rear antenna.

actually, it seems higher the better. if people are in the back seat, would the signal not be bouncing off them? at least, with the headliner method, it might slide over their heads.

but more for me I like that clear space from the mirror below, while the empty space above the mirror is useless, so I am pretty sure when/if I can score a V1 off eBay, that is where I will mount it no doubt.

in the end, it is likely 6 of one half dozen of the other.

And if you're catching a signal from the rear, it's probably too late to do anything about it...

If you ever have a trooper come up from behind running "rolling radar" you'll appreciate the rear warning.

Also knowing which direction a signal is coming from helps for many different situations.
