Rick C
So my wife and I just traded in our 2009 Dodge Journey because we couldn't take all the problems anymore... yeah, I know, its a Dodge, and I should have known better. But that lifetime drivetrain warranty won us over (it was between an Edge and the Journey). I guess a lifetime warranty isn't worth crap if the rest of the car falls apart. Anyway, we were looking for used 2007 or 2008 Edges, and found a dealer that wanted to get the brand new 2010's off the lot, so we got our 2010 SEL (almost fully loaded) for the same price as many of the used 2008s!!! We couldn't pass it up. This is my wifes family car, so we won't be doing any serious mods to it, but I'll be lurking around for things like the cargo liner and a cover for the rear bumper. The painted rear bumper is bound to get scratched to hell, and so far that is the only complaint I can find. Rick

Most chatter lately is about the 11's but there is lots of good info for all the year models.
dkpnkc
Congrats. The first two items I ordered for mine were the cargo liner & bumper protector. The other item I miss from my Lexus RX300 is the the retractable cargo shade. I have an employee that just loves her '09 Journey. I believe she has around 25k on it & the only thing I know of that needed work was side view mirror had to be resprayed after the paint stripped during a high power wash - I understand that is a known problem w/ that model. Not a big fan of it personally - she spent some time trying to talk me into one when I was looking but it wasn't for me. However I really liked the cargo storage areas. I'll list the problems we've had with the Journey: 1) Power steering groan - fixed under TSB. 2) Sun Visor vanity mirror doors broke off (both) 3) Needed brakes and rotors at all 4 corners at 18K miles. 4) Rear calipers hanging up. Dealer said it was normal, but I know that if your rotors are actually glowing red, that isn't normal. 5) Rear end went out of alignment. Was told by dealer we should get an alignment once a year. (more BS) 6) Needed tires (mainly because alignment was off). Kumo is the only maker of the 225/55/19s on the R/T. Cost is around $900 and they are on "national backorder." 7) Key stuck in ingnition a couple times. 8) Ticking sound from engine. Sounds like lifters. Lifers replaced, problem still there. They replaced the intake manifold and the problem cleared up for a while. It returned a few months later, but was a little softer. 9) Car wouldn't start, just click on a few occasions. Then randomly a few seconds later would start with no prob. 10) Groaning sound when wheels are turned all the way to the lock. 11) Trans shifting funny. 12) Trans gear lever goes from Drive to Reverse with no safety stop. (my wife hit the brakes hard, her purse hit the shifter and knocked it into reverse. Good thing noone was behind us when she let off the brake and hit the gas!) The car was at 30K miles and we knew the minute the warranty was up we'd be in for a ton of repairs. Not to mention, we didn't want to drop a grand on new tires... dkpnkc
Wow. Now I'm really glad I didn't consider a Journey while looking. I'm betting you love the Edge. We bought our MKX because we've had our Lincoln Zephyr for almost four years & had one issue with the steering that was fixed per a TSB. Other than that it's only been oil changes - the best overall vehicle I've owned.

Other than that it's only been oil changes - the best overall vehicle I've owned. I'm a big fan of Ford. I should have followed my instincts when we narrowed down our search to the Edge and the Journey back in 2008... My daily driver is a 2005 Mustang GT. The only problems it gave me were the Skipper 1000 stereo (cds were skipping constantly). Got it replaced under warranty. I've got almost 100K miles on the stock brakes. Original tires went 65K. The only mods are an SCT tuner and Flowmaster mufflers. If I keep my foot off the go pedal it gets 30-32 mpg on the highway between my house and my parents house. You can't beat that! My other Ford is my weekend toy... 1963 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Rick
NewEdgeForMe
Rick, Like you, I'm a big Ford fan. Of the 10 cars I've owned in my lifetime (I keep them awhile!) all of them have been a Ford except for my last car was a 2002 Dodge Durango. In my opinion, repairs were more than "normal' on the Dodge. Not to mention the thing is getting a lot of rust on it. (Daughter drives it now.) I just bought my 2011 Edge a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed so far with the quality. Glad to be back in a Ford. I'm a big fan of Ford.
