stevesintexas Posted November 9, 2010 Report Share Posted November 9, 2010 I have had my 2011 Edge Limited for about two months now and everything is working fine except the fuel economy display. When driving down the highway the Instant fuel economy bar will read apprximately 25 mpg and seems to be working properly but the average fuel economy reading is very erratic. It will read 18 mpg then 17.9 then 17.8, 17.7, 17.6, 17.5 17.4, 17.3 then jump back up to 18 and start counting down again. If I reset the fuel display it works properly for about the first 30 miles then it starts the count down and jump up again. I have had it to the garage and they put in a new gauge cluster but the new one does the same thing. The shop foreman said he drove another Edge they had on the lot and it did the same thing also so he feels it is working properly. I must mention my wife has a 2010 Edge and hers reads the way they should, it only changes a tenth at a time up or down depending on where you are driving, no big jumps. rogersmj Posted November 9, 2010 Report Share Posted November 9, 2010 No, ours appears to work properly, just changing 0.1 at a time and it sticks around 22-23mpg without any jumps. Given that they've already replaced the gauge cluster, it must be something outside of the gauge cluster...like maybe the sensor that's reporting fuel consumption to the gauge cluster. While I don't have my Edge yet, my Inifniti has this same feature and the numbers are extremely erratic depends on how I'm driving. If I'm stopped, the instant fuel economy will sky rocket, if I go WOT for a short amount of time, the instant fuel economy will skyrocket, etc. This is instant fuel economy, not average fuel economy, so you will definitely see large spikes. bac2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Share Posted November 10, 2010 You can change the amount of data used to calculate the MPG by increasing/decreasing the number of minutes. I believe the choices are 10, 20, and 30 minutes. I use 30 minutes and my MPG number changes by one tenth on an average day.
