    Low Gear

Any luck with that? I thought this was interesting (from the Owner's Manual): D (Drive) with Overdrive The normal driving position for the best fuel economy. Transaxle operates in gears one through six. D (Drive) without Overdrive Overdrive can be deactivated by pressing the transmission control switch on the side of the gearshift lever. • Transmission operates in gears one through four. My original thought was turning the O/D off would take 6th gear out of the mix, but apparently it takes 5th out as well. I didn't notice that dramatic a difference and assumed it was dropping to 5th. Well, we all know what happens when we 'ass'u'me'....
  2. There is a governor, but mine topped out at 111 mph. Maybe a lease is reprogrammed or something, I don't know, but I'm sure someone out there does. I think Car & Driver lists the top speed at 111 as well.
  3. sniff...sniff...you smell something?

    Low Gear

From what I've experienced, kicking it out of OD doesn't affect anything unless you're actually in 6th gear. If you are, that would drop you to 5th, and if you move to L from there, my guess is it goes to 4th. It would definitely be even more fun to drive if had tiptronic or the 3 2 L.

    Low Gear

I've 'played' with L a little bit. At 45 mph, drop it in L, revs increase but not to an extreme, and as you slow down, it still downshifts about 3 more times on its own. You can feel it some, but you can also watch the tach and tell when it downshifts. I don't think the computer will let it over rev as I was driving slow once (because someone had to pull out in front of me and then decided to turn on the next street!) I dropped it in L and punched it. It upshifted before I could bump into D. Depending on your speed and what gear its in (and if its around a shift point), it could really bump up the revs and feel like its about to blow, but I don't think it will. If you were already going down hill and it was in 3rd (low rpms), the speed may have been slow enough for it to go to 1st when you put it in L therefore really increasing the rpms. Just my uneducated guess.
  6. Wow, 130 mph in the woods...to bad the Edge tops out at 111... I've noticed the same as far as the projection of the stock headlights; seems there is very little upward projection. When pulling in the driveway I can see the 'line' at about eye level where it goes almost dark on the garage door. As a result, I kind of feel like I can't see up ahead real well when going downhill.
  7. the only thing missing is a dry cleaners...
  8. The installer I used sells Curt as well as Draw Tite. When I had it installed, Draw Tite was the only manufacturer that had an option. As a matter of fact, I had to wait another 2 weeks for a wiring harness from Draw Tite as there were no aftermarket harnesses either. When I called the Ford dealer about having them install it, they even said there were no harnesses and they would have to "manually" wire it since I didn't have the tow package.
  9. It's better than being a dumb one... Oh, and welcome Gloria.
  10. Search is your friend, my friend... http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1289
  11. Good_Hands, you can say that again...oh, wait, you already did...
  12. Do you have the 2" receiver? Did yours come with the factory receiver? Yes and no. What make and model is this 'aftermarket'?? Hidden Hitch, Drawtight, Putnam???? It's a Draw Tite (not sure of the model number).
  13. Except for the "car" part, you just described every CUV/SUV out there. I admitted it is a variation, but I would consider the focus as you described it a wagon as well as the Freestyle (now Taurus X) as wagons. Much more car-like and lower to the ground. Just my opinion and nothing more.
  14. Is not...my parents had station wagons the Edge is no station wagon. A variation maybe, but not a station wagon. When was a station wagon of very sharp styling, excellent ride and handling, good pick-up, fun to drive??? Only one that was modified for drag racing!
  15. I have an aftermarket and all that had to be cut was a shield between the muffler and floor pan for the hitch mounting flange. It sits below the factory bumper, so it's actually lower than the factory installed hitch. There's a pic in my gallery that shows it. All the other stuff would be nice, but...this one didn't have it already.
  16. I started out looking for green ones; every car I have owned for the last 15 years has been green. I guess there were so many issues with those, they didn't even make it to the lot. I'm very happy with the carbon, same color as the Bronco II I had waaaay back when, before the green ones.
  17. Yeah, what's up with that anyway. Must really be an issue with those. Glad mine is Carbon (which is no longer available; guess one day it will be a collector's item...)
  18. Owner's manual...I think I saw one of those in the Smithsonian once. It was in the Automotive History Archives. Something about being the most un-read documents ever published.
  19. Oh, and there is a lengthly post in this forum somewhere regarding break-in with some informative info. Search and ye shall find...
  20. I tried to take it easy the first 500 miles, very hard btw. Changed the oil after 1,000 miles, and all is well. You'll have much fun "puttin' the pedal to the metal" (or at least to the carpeted floor mats; unless you get the weather tech's or something...) ENJOY! And Welcome.
  21. Why do you think we never heard about the GREEN ones...???
  22. A station wagon has none of the characteristics you just described about your Edge...
