  1. Call Tirerack.com, they are great at explaining this stuff. I purchased a set of 22" Winter tires from them and the difference in snow compared to the All(3) season tires is noticable. I wanted the smaller diameter wheels that would have cost less, but my spousal unit wanted to maintain the OEM wheels. It was a compromise.
  2. So, what work did they do to fix it? Was it the wheel bearing? I ask for my own interest and those who may search for "humming noise" in the future.
  3. Here is a minimaliast vent mount that the spousal unit uses for her iPhone because she perfers the phone on the vent: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D901B4W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I personally use a RAM mount system that is mounted to the rear view mirror arm and it's very rugged. This mount allows me to use a second phone as a dash cam (along with the iSymDVR app). Here is a side view of the mount: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Ad0tQNyVL.jpg And here are the parts that I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NROEBM/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0074WMQLS/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  5. I want to post that a new version of MyFord Touch 3.6.2 is available. The update is available at Ford's SyncMyRide website: http://www.syncmyride.com/ It is important to run the latest software and test it thoroughly before engaging a manufacturer in a lawsuit over a system that runs the software. That said, please share any problems with this release of MyFord Touch at http://outofmytouch.com/.
  6. FYI, some of us have had ongoing problems with the MyFordTouch system, myself included. Problems with Ford MyFordTouch®, MyLincolnTouch® and Sync® Systems – Class Action Investigation http://www.chimicles.com/problems-with-fords-myfordtouch-mylincolntouch-and-sync-systems "On July 2, 2013, Chimicles & Tikellis filed a class action lawsuit against Ford in the Northern District of California on behalf of owners and lessees of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles with Sync®, MyFordTouch® and MyLincolnTouch® infotainment systems. The complaint alleges that these vehicles (including the C-Max, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Focus, Fusion, Taurus, Flex, Fiesta, F-150, Mustang, Navigator, Milan, Mountaineer, Mariner and Lincoln MKX, MKZ, MKS models) may suffer from a design defect in which the Sync®, MyFordTouch® and MyLincolnTouch® systems fail to operate as designed, including but not limited to, back-up camera freeze, unintended system restarts, system freezes, Bluetooth and phone issues, inoperable navigation, random features turning on and off including the audio and HVAC systems. Some owners and lessees may have been required to undergo costly repairs of these electronic systems or would simply not have paid the upgraded cost for such option had they be advised of the potential design defect at the time of purchase. If you have experienced problems with the MyFordTouch® or MyLincolnTouch® infotainment system in your Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle, please use the “Email us about this Case” button to contact the following attorneys."
  7. I just had my oil changed at a local Ford dealer and it was recommended that I have the transmission fluid changed every 25-30,000 miles. I've got 28,000 on my vehicle now. The service department wants $270.00, which would include "performance fluid" and they would flush the system of all impurities. I could do this at home, except for flushing the system of all impurities. And what do you suppose they are using for performance fluid?

  10. I feel that using synthetic oil allows a person to extend the oil change interval, which is a time saver for me. I just had a Ford dealer put in full synthetic on the last oil change. I normally use full synthetic. The window sticker they applied afterwards has a reminder for 5,000 miles or two months, which ever is sooner. When I asked why should I change full synthetic oil in two months, the answer was that all oil needs frequent changes to maintain performance. I then asked about the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor™ (IOLM)/Oil Monitor System (OMS) in my car and the service manager told me to not trust it and that frequent oil changes would make my car last longer. So, I had to ask what other owner's manual recommendations and techology should I ignore on my car, like the BLIS, and battery or tire pressure monitoring systems; and he just laughed. Yeah, I won't be going back to that place. So far, three out of three dealer service departments that I've used in my area have all recommended much shorter oil change intervals than the manufacturer, even with full synthetic. One dealer recommends monthly service!? I can see one advantage to having a vehicle in for more frequent service; because it should get inspected by someone as part of the service checks (or should be anyway). While I'm pretty anal about preventative maintenance, there are some people that might not check their vehicle regularly, or at all; so a trip to the service department might identify some required maintenance before it becomes a more expensive repair. Aside from my own frequent oil level checks, the 2011 Ford Edge has an intelligent oil life monitoring system that "uses actual engine and vehicle operating conditions to more precisely calculate anticipated service intervals," which, under normal driving conditions, could mean up to a 10,000 mile oil change interval. This means that the oil change interval will vary depending on the driving conditions. The 2011 Ford Edge Owners manual, page 377, states: "For your convenience, your vehicle is equipped with a message center which determines the proper oil change service interval. You should perform the engine oil change as indicated by the message center. The message center will display ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED to indicate when an oil change is needed. The engine oil change service needs to be completed within two weeks or 500 miles (800 km) after the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message is displayed. Your oil change service interval can be up to one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km). Reset your Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ after each engine oil and filter change; refer to the Instrument Clusterchapter. If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 miles (8,000 km) from your last oil change." 11. At sync y ride I wasn't able to see an available update to 3.5.1, and discovered in the FAQ. (Bold text is my addition) I'd like to point out that this update requires me to monitor the (sync my ride) forums for the release of a replacement SD card. Why must I monitor Fords forums for an update? They know that I have a vehicle with navigation, and should send me a new SD card if it's required for an update to fix their broken MFT system. <vent>This MFT system STYNCS and I've got a wife, family, and friends who have experienced the system and it's problems first hand.</vent>
  12. I wanted to provide an update to my transmission problem. I returned the vehicle a second time after it was supposedly repaired. When I picked it up I was told that they only had to reset the computer. I requested a receipt and it only says that they performed a diagnostic check with no time listed. Anyway, the clunking was gone, for a few weeks, but is now intermittent and very infrequent. I can't reproduce the problem, but the transmission shifts into second gear REALLY hard on occasion. I'll need to find another dealer.
  13. You mean something like this? http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-7-dash-mount-beautifully-simple
  14. My 2011 Edge with AWD has always had a harsh shift in the lower gears, which I attributed to the towing package and the dealer agreed when I brought it up. Recently there has been intermittent, but recurring harsh thunks when shifting at the lower gears. My wife was frantic after it happened to her several times during one drive session. I brought it to the dealer service and the work receipt says the repair work was related to TSB 11-12-10. I did give him TSB 11-5-6 when dropping off the car, but the service manager wouldn't take the TSB saying that it wasn't official. Well, service did not fix the problem, which happened again several times driving home from the dealer. How they miss this during a post service test drive is beyond me because the clunking is regular and very pronounced now. Today, I was told that until they can regularly reproduce the problem it can't be fixed and apparently when there's no codes, there's nothing wrong with the car. Fair enough, but I don't want to be stranded either, or as the old saying goes "Found On the Road Dead". It was also recommended to try changing my driving habits. I asked in what way and was told to adjust my speed when accelerating from a stop, either slower or faster, so that the problem doesn't happen as much. I told him that this problem occurs with both my wife or myself normal conservative driving habits and that it shouldn't happen at all. I would leave the car with the service manager to drive overnight if it wasn't my only vehicle because they don't provide loaners. I could spring for a rental so that someone from the dealer can drive the car until they can identify the problem. I thought about telling the dealer that I'm going to park my Edge in front of his building with a big sign saying "Get paid for a test drive" and then record how the people react when the problem happens. Maybe even upload the video to YouTube? I'm rambling again out of frustration. It's good to know that I'm not the only one having problems with my Ford Edge and this forum is a great way to share information. Hopefully the car doesn't break down before it can be serviced again next week.
  15. Thanks for the reply. So, it is possible for a tech to "reset the system" (what ever that means) without wiping the MFT settings. This dealer has been a matter of convenience for me, but your right. What's disconcerting is that some past records for maintenance that I have received only indicate part of the service, like the oil change, even though I brought car in for a problem with the MFT. They usually offer to change the oil or perform some other service because "it was time." Then, my receipt would indicate an oil change, even though they also updated the MFT. I've learned from other web sites to only have them perform one type of maintenance at a time. As far as the oil changes go, the dealer originally told me to bring it back every 2500 miles. And when I questioned this frequency with synthetic oil after reading an Edmunds article online, I was told that was their "performance" recommendation.
  16. I brought my 2011 Edge to the dealer last week to check on the transmission problem. I had left the TSB on the front seat. The service manager initially stated that it would just need a computer reset, but then called back to say that they had to order parts. I had it in the shop today to replace a "screen in the transmission that would only take an hour or two". I called at 2PM and they hadn't started working on the car, but at 4:45 I got a call that my car was fixed. However, the surge and clunk into gear happened twice in the less than three mile drive home. One thing I noticed was that all of my SYNC user settings were still in the system, when normally they are lost when the SYNC system is reset by the dealer. It didn't hit me at first because I was relieved to not have to reprogram my navigation, but when I got home after the problems reocurred I struck me that the system couldn't have been reset. Anyway, it appears the TSB work failed to correct the problem. It's going to be tough to sell this car without taking a big loss.
  17. Congrats! Back in the early 80's I spent 4 years in Germany, most of the time along the East German border. I was single, beer and women were cheap with a 3-1 exchange rate, and I drove an old beemer, often as fast as it would go on the autobahn.
  18. My 2011 Edge that I purchasd in 2010 has 18K miles is also "slipping" intermittently from a full stop. The shifting for first and second gears has always been harsh, but I thought that was due to the towing package. Now, it will surge, then clunk into gear and then again clunk when shifting into second gear. I'm going to the dealer with this TSB and see what they can do. It scares the heck out of my wife.
  19. You may be correct. I never looked for the temperature reading in that small screen until it was removed from the main screen. And that's my complaint as well. The benefit of a software-based temperature readout is that they can return what they took away from their customers. I feel as if I'm just a lab rat for Ford's foray into this infotainment technology and I'm waiting for them to change the maze on me again.
  20. I'm with you and the others on the steering wheel seek direction being reversed and the temperature readout being removed from the main display. How was this missed? Or was is acknowledged and the update pushed out anyway? I'll admit that this update has improved performance in the navigation portion and the UI is better in some areas, especially with larger font. However, I am waiting for this 2.0 "public beta" version to be updated; hopefully that will be soon.
  21. Your wife is correct. I now always use the cargo net after having stuff fall out and land at my feet when I open the liftgate. I also learned not to put put fragile items in the cargo net because they will bang against the liftgate. My biggest complain is the bottom side loops never stay connected and I don't yet have a good modification to fix that problem.
  22. I average 18 in mixed driving for the past two months here in the mid-west. Fuel economy dropped this past Winter a couple MPG. My 2011 Edge has 20" wheels and the towing package and I assume that is lowering the MPG from that advertised on the base model.
  23. Mmm, I've had this problem too. Driving the highway when it's sunny, warm and I got the warning. Only a few times and I thought it was a (real) bug stuck on the sensor cover, but never found anything.
