  1. Is it by chance coming from the subwoofer in the rear? The reason I ask, is because I had a high pitch whine coming out of the rear factory subwoofer. I was able to verify this, because I dropped in an aftermarket sub and amp. I tapped the high level signals coming out of the factory sub amp and ran them to the new amp. At first i could still hear a high pitch whine, but then i switch the amp crossover to Low pass, Instantly the noise was gone. Switching the crossover back high pass and the whine came back. hope this helps.

This noise is audible from 20 feet away from the car in some cases. Definitely not audio system related.

  2. It's when we do anything with the phone. Not like anytime you push buttons, but if we get a text, the phone syncs to the car, we send a text. Things like that. It's just kind of annoying.

I know that there are 'text notification settings' in the Bluetooth section since I spent some time in there recently. I would look into changing that setting.

  3. How do you get swirls from cloth strips that move gently back and forth and not in a circle? And I don't think opti-coat or any other sealant is permanent.

When "detailers" talk about defects, it's not just swirls. But I agree that it requires pressure and an abrasive to scratch a car. Some car washes are gentler than others.

Opti Coat is, in fact, permanent. Its cross linked polymers bond to the surface molecules of your paint and can only be removed by abrasion(polishing).

  4. I have something going on with the MFT system and my cell phone since we had version 2.11 installed at the dealer a few weeks ago. Anytime we do anything with the phone (sync, text, call, etc), the radio cuts out and beeps. Doesn't matter what it is. If the phone is connected and you do anything with the phone it does this. I'm pretty sure it didn't do that with version 2.8 we had. Is this normal? My apologies if this has been addressed previously, but I am fairly new to the forum and don't have time to read through all 30 pages of this post. Thanks! Scott

Does not sound normal to me.

Are you saying any input on the phone itself causes MFT to beep? Or controls to the phone section of MFT?

  5. THe OEM bi-halogen are actually very nice projectors. The Phillips HIR2 bulb in then is actually by far the best halogen bulb to date. It has a lumen output that is similar to a slightly dimmed HID bulb (1-2 years old). There is the Catz Zeta system which boosts the HIR2 bulbs and they are really bright but i would worry about heating the bowls too much and the chrome flaking off. The stock projectors are very open so it might be ok.

Also when I mod cars I like to keep an OEM look an always try to improve upon the stock version. Tinting the lights to me doesn't look good as it hides the awesome lights. It also kills the performance as you noticed. I really like to open the light up and black out the inside before considering touching the lens. These headlights are extremely hard to open even if you have opened many lights before. The permaseal is no joke and does not release with heat so we need to cut or physically break the seal with force. When I seal them back up I will need to use some silicone and some grey kioto butyl to seal them back up http://shop.lightwer...products_id=65. our headlights are fully sealed with gortex patches to let air pass but not moisture.

    Thanks for the sealant link!

  6. Wow now I feel worried. My dealer still has nothing on my order and this is the 3rd person who ordered weeks after me and cars are built. I wonder if there is something I ordered that is holding up my order? Congrats though!

Has something to do with dealer allocation and priority. I don't know the exact details, but it might be that your dealer didn't have allocation for that vehicle type until the next "batch"

  7. BACKGROUND: I've had 2.11 installed a few months ago at the dealer that leased me the Edge. They must have messed something up, because I was missing buttons on the left side of the services screen. I recently read that Wilson66604 was able to update on his own, so I thought I would try it out.

I decided to load the update on a usb drive and install it while waiting for a co-worker to finish up, at work. The instructions said that it might take 4 to 45 minutes and that you should keep the car running and in Park. That sounds like a huge waste of gas, and guess what.... IT IS!

So with the car running, you insert the USB drive and it recognizes it immediately and starts to do its thing. It will do several cycles of loading files, and going to a Blank screen, and then the usual "Scheduled Maintenance" screen. The process, for me, literally took all 45 minutes, if not more, so plan accordingly.

I had to get home and could not wait, so during the "Service Pack" section, I decided to leave. About 15 minutes into driving (the car had been sitting for a while running the code already), the radio came on all of a sudden. Then, eventually a screen indicating that the installation was complete came up. Doesn't seem like anything was messed up from driving. But now my TPMS says low tire pressure, but I'm pretty sure I'm OK. I'll have to reset SYNC and see if that fixes it.

    Other Findings:

Now, my services screen has the proper buttons. I haven't sent directions to SYNC from my computer or phone yet, but I assume it will work again.

I also noticed a setting in my phone (HTC MyTouch 4G Slide; Android 2.3.4) under the Bluetooth Advanced Settings menu that said "messaging access". Of course, I clicked the check box and proceeded to Pair my phone with SYNC. Then, I went into the messaging section of SYNC (a setting that was previously greyed out) and played around. So far, I cannot get it to read messages (Only played briefly with it) but it DOES send messages just fine! Sync appends a little Signature to the SMS "-This message was sent from my Ford"

I'll post anything else different that I find in this post below here:

  8. This is where your insurance comes in. An adjuster should look at it and your insurance can pay for repairs and sue if the other guy won't pony up for more/better work. Your insurance company has a legal team that can step in also. That is what we pay all of this money for to buy insurance.

Yup... make your insurance do some work. And let them know that their service on this matter will have bearing on your decision to renew at end of term.

  9. By reading through this thread, I was wondering a few things.

    1) Can the radio be turned on and used while remote starting? Or is it turned on automatically? How does it work?

    2) Same questions with other common features of the car (headlights, wipers, cigarette plug)

    Thank you

    1) Radio is not functional on remote start. Actually, you can't control anything on the headunit or HVAC controls, all automatic only.

    2) Cigarette plugs are always on. Headlights will come on if left in the correct positions. Not sure about wipers, but I doubt it.

  10. When smart phones first came out I was thinking they should have some type of universal A/V input (HDMI maybe?) that would allow the phone applications to use the touch screen and audio speakers and voice command in the vehicle. I think applink will be capable of this at some point since it just provides APIs. But getting the phone apps to support it won't be easy - they're used to only dealing with small built-in displays.

Then again that would make OEM navigation obsolete so that's not a good incentive for Ford.

I wish there were some way to hit a button and have it send the voice command to the phone through Bluetooth. That's how I currently send voice texts, but I have to hit the button on the phone to do that.

  11. Well the update is, the other lady's insurance is taking care of the repair and rental while the my ride is being repaired. So that is good. Right now we are hoping the can simply repair and refinish the affected area without painting and such but, once I take it in and they get busy, I guess we'll see how that works out. They have mailed out my check and now I am getting ready to schedule the work. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    Good luck!!

  12. You need to get a whole new projector setup while doing a retrofit. Since you are looking at TRS I would recommend the FX-R projectors with the clear lens upgrade. Also get their morimoto 55w ballasts. I would not get a 6000K bulb though as it will not be that bright and the blue light doesn't travel as far. If you want a clean white light and the most lumens go with the OSRAM 66240 CBI 5000K bulb. Aftermarket bulbs tend to color shift too much and they often don't match the same color from bulb to bulb. Always use OEM bulbs wherever possible.

I've got the same kit from them.

    Great recommendation!!!
