  1. I also bought one of these because of this post, but for my Fusion. One thing to consider is that the bag it came with sort of fell apart on me after ~1 month. I've just resigned myself to not using it anymore. Otherwise, the shade is great!

Same here. The 2 sizes fits all bag is tattered at the edges now due to the velcro. They should have switched where they put the "hooks" versus the "loops".

That way, the soft "loops" would be the side contacting the edges of the bag and not "hooking" it.

  2. No, i wasnt looking up information or going with a brighter bulb because i put tint on my headlights and taillights. And actually with the lights on you cannot tell that the lights are tinted because it isnt that dark. Gotta love how people are so quick to bust your balls when you dont know as much as the next guy. Know it all's so quick to criticize instead of lending their knowledge. Thanks for the comments.

    Hey man, I tried.

even explained my current knowledge of the HID setup in our cars versus the current industry trends. I even tried to defend your choice by saying a manufacturer has also compromised performance for the sake of design.

I certainly know that when I darkened my last headlights, I instantly went for the brighter bulb to compensate. I also dropped LEDs in my tail lights to increase the safety as they fire quicker. Nothing wrong with modding for looks and compensating.

(just read over this thread and noticed that my suggestions for bulb options must have been in the other thread you posted in: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/8190-quick-question-about-stock-hids/page__p__65436&do=findComment&comment=65436)

  3. I'm waiting for delivery of my White 2012 sport. I want to get a sealant on asap but I will probably need to slightly correct the paint first. I use ONR for washing due to living in a condo and not easy to get a place to wash.

What polish works well with the white platinum clear coat. I figure I would need some clay work and a single step polish to get a perfect finish. I want to seal it with opti coat as I use opti-seal now and have been for about 3 years. I have a flex 3401 da orbital and some autogeek pads in various colors. I am thinking possibly Meguires 105 might be all I need if the clear coat isn't nearly as hard as my BMW 650i.

EDIT: haven't looked at detailing stuff in prob over a year and a half. Just some quick looking on the usual forums the new meg DA microfiber system looks awesome. Might look at going that route for my Flex.

Sounds like you have the right gear.

I doubt the need for corrections unless they "washed" your car for you improperly OR you have to do lots of claying that would lead to micro mars. But if so, I would go with the least cutting (something like a blue finishing pad)

I just used opti coat 2.0 on a black vehicle. It's amazing stuff, just make sure you have LOTS of light and check for high spots before your 30 minute window goes up. (Although a light hand buff the next day will fix any spots)

  4. Hey Cal, have you seen anything on DX that you think might be a decent reverse LED? Gotta order a few Cree XML's anyway so I'm thinking of throwing in a few Reverse LEDS to try. By the way, great thread about the back-up light LEDs.

Problem is , they are too hit or miss. I'm actually happy with the V-LEDS ones currently.

I think a couple cree's in there would be badass though. Totally custom and as bright as you want.

  5. Well, you can, if you use a DEI 529T and understand 12 volt wiring, but it would be all the way down on the first press only. No just rolling it down a little anymore.

or the more advance DEI 530T will give auto up/ auto down to 2 windows. OR auto down on 4 windows.

for partial down, you need to hold it for a bit. Auto down/up needs a single click.

  6. People that don't understand what ground sensors are and sit 30 feet before the intersection so that the left turn arrow NEVER goes green. (I LITERALLY tongue.gif, had to get out of my car last week and help a guy pull his car forward)

People (Guys) that can't pee in a urinal properly and leave a moat for my shoes or laces to wick up.

People that sit their cars in the MIDDLE of the right lane blocking any would-be right turners.

People that intentionally drive the same speed as others in different lanes creating a traffic wall.

That's all I could come up with in 3.1415926 minutes.

  7. Looking for a passenger rear door for my 2008 edge if anyone has happened to see a edge in a junk yard... Black would be a++! Wife managed to scrape our fence, not once, not twice but 3 times trying to get the car out and killed the door... Thanks in advance. If you could just post a name of somewhere/phone # that'd be great!

Why is it when a woman does something we have to be nice and feel sorry for them. But if a man does it, we get yelled out so bad?????

Sorry for your loss. I've NEVER seen an Edge in a JY, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Check with

    car-part.com

About the women thing.... that's just life man. 90% of the drama that comes in my house is when the wife is not happy. If I'm not happy, I just suck it up and it's over in like 10 minutes. If she's pissed or emotionally "down", there's no telling how long that could be. So, is the fate of man.

  8. Plenty of things are done to LOOK COOL.

Take for example the Ford Edge Sport. Looks cool as all EFF, but they had to put a larger engine, HD springs and shocks, shorter final drive to compensate for the performance lost in the COOL.

Sounds like Ford had the same logic but applied it in a DOT legal format.

  9. I've had the same issues as you did.

The hood, passenger A-pillar, Driver Door and Radio Bezel were all off from factory. Plus there are some clear coat drips on the back of the passenger rear door.

They got the hood closer, but not perfect. Will have to have them do it again.

They fixed the Driver door to satisfaction.

The bezel needed to be special ordered and I'm trying to get another appointment that will work.

They upgraded SYNC to 2.10 and messed my 'services' in the meantime.

And they didn't even touch the Passenger A-Pillar. Going to have them take another look.

They should fix everything for you. It's just a hassle to get them to do it right and work with my schedule.

    [OffTopic Rant]:

Dealers should really open service and parts on the weekend and close it for 2 days during the week instead. Who the hell has time to make enough money to own one of these vehicles and also bring the damn car in during the work week to get it where it should have been out of the box?

    [/rant]

  10. You're going to run into the issue of the bulb that Ford decided to use in the HID headlights.

They are new, low mercury, D3S bulbs with built in igniter that put out ~4500K color temp.

If you want brighter, you need to upgrade to a 50W ballast and bulb. Problem is, those are not readily available yet for D3S bulbs.

You could either wait for them to be developed (about another year I'm guessing) OR do a retrofit that replaces the projector with a bulb that has much more availability such as the D2S.

  11. Well, the slow boat finally got here yesterday. I installed the DX Festoons and they are really bright and very white. If you can wait a month, the DX 42mm Festoons are well worth $2.70 each. 15 bucks to convert all interior lights and license plate bulbs to LED!!!!

Patience is definitely a virtue with DX.

I've gotten into the habit of shipping everything that I get from China to work. Then, when it comes in a month later, it's like Christmas because I forgot all the crap I ordered

Reminds me, I have 12 CREE Q2 Emitters waiting to be put into the LED strips...

  12. Had some good fortune this past weekend and went to my local Ford Dealer and they agreed to buy my just ordered 2012 SEL and I then ordered a 2012 Limited. Very happy with my decision. With z-plan, the difference was only $1800 over my SEL configuration. Thanks again to all here for your help.

    Congrats!

That dealer shouldn't have any problem selling the SEL.

Did you stick with the same color combination or did you take the chance to switch it up?

  13. So the work has been complete, and lucky for the woman, I am satisfied with the outcome and she has avoided an insurance claim. :)

You're a VERY nice guy. I would have at least asked her to pay 1/2 of my hourly rate (since you are a professional and the time could be spent fixing someone else's car). Or maybe give you ALL her future business/referrals as a "Thank You".

Either way, I'm glad your car wasn't too bad off. Nice save!

  14. All Ford had to do was to mount a real retracting cover to the back of the seats. When reclined, the cover mechanism would move with the seat. BMW figured this out years ago, but I guess Ford really was not interested in a better solution than the pitiful vinyl cover that we have.

How does that handle the 60/40 split?

I know the Lexus solution in the CT200h is great since the "roll" easily just popped out when not in use since it is spring loaded at the ends. They also have a very nice solution to the rear headrest: if you pull them out to full extension, it exposes a hinge at the bottom of the post that will allow them to fall forward, reducing chances of contacting the front seats. (not that big of a problem in the Edge, but still useful)

  15. I'm looking to install a hitch on my 2007 Edge to support a bike rack. I won't be doing any towing so I don't need any exterior electrical hook-up. Are there any options that I can install which won't involve cutting the bumper? What is the smallest size/class that I can go with if I only need to carry a bike rack?

There are racks available that mount underneath without cutting AFAIK. I would suggest asking U-Haul or another Hitch rack spot.

As for the Bike Rack, even a Class I will work but the thin diameter bar will introduce opportunities for swaying. I have the 2" hitch and it feels solid.

Check this review I put up, it might help you on choosing a rack:

  16. I was lead to believe that nitrogen keeps a more constant pressure and does not fluctuate tire pressures in heat or cold as air does.

This is actually one "mis"-fact about Nitrogen.

Gasses at atmospheric, or in this case, near atmospheric (2~3 BAR), behave the same, under the ideal gas laws. So a change in temperature of both gasses will cause the same pressure change in both gasses. This is especially true of this relationship since "air" is 75%+ Nitrogen.

  17. Is it possible to purchase a Ford Key purposed for a different Ford (or Lincoln if need be) model that has factory remote start and have it cut for my 2007 Edge? This would be in addition to paying the dealer to install whatever components are necessary to add remote start to my vehicle. Ultimately my goal is to avoid having a separate "fob" on my key ring for the remote starter if I can and also to make it look as factory and feel as factory as possible.

    This?
