  1. Does anyone know how the grill inserts attach to the chrome grill? Just wondering if there's any chance of the chrome getting scratched if I ever decide to remove them. Thanks!

One more question... What do you think is a reasonable price to pay to have them painted? My dealer was quoting me like $200 which seemed high to me.

They snap into the grille from the front. The inserts have a tab that fits into a slot in the grille. To remove them, you will have to pull the bumper and release the tab from the back.

$200 sounds about right to do it all. Unless do all the installation yourself...

  2. I had a dealer that fought me on doing the base software update but then they did. Next time they fought me again, I showed letter, & they tried to say it was prior version already done so they would not do again for a new version & put a $110 charge & callled it the 911 Vehicle heath report update. Hello- that was for 1st gen sync 2008 models not 2011 or 2012 that already have it. STUPID. Oh they paid for that. Those greedy jerks that wanted to get one over on their new customre that just bought the Lux Linc veh. Bad business move. I even had a dealer in next town over contact me since they review the sync forum & saw my distress posts & offered better service & discounts- not only on my car but my wifes car. They wanted to Earn my business. I got the 800 cust support on the inciddent & opened a case. Long story short- dealer got put in its place, refunded the charge, & they paid me a "customer courtesy" check for my troubles. Patient, Polite, Persistence wins the war.

That's a good success story. Thanks for the share

  3. ^ sorry to hear that. I have the 18"s (had 55 series tires on my '10 Terrain) and I wouldn't trade looks for sidewall in the future.

I absolutely LOVE my Edge (+ 1 month and 1,600km) but there is a feature I miss from the Terrain and that is the park (reverse) tilt mirrors... that feature worked wonders for protecting the chrome clad wheels on that vehicle (chrome clad are VERY common on today's vehicles) and since I'm the only one driving the Edge I have memory position 2 set to tilt the right side mirror down.

It's saved the right wheels from curb rash on a number of occasions...

There's something you can add to your car that will simulate the function:

    http://www.kptechnologies.com/products.php?year=Universal&make=Universal&model=Universal

scroll down to "reverse mirror tilt module". There are standard and deluxe models for doing one or both windows.

  4. Not really a fix but I would try running your cellphones directly to the auxillary port. I connect my phone directly to the auxillary port in my 2011 and everyone I've asked on the other end says it sounds perfect. I would guess that most higher end cellphones have superior mics to anything that Ford installs. I know it's an extra step and you have to switch the stereo to AUX but I find it a much better option then lots of noise. It even sounds great doing 80 mph down the highway.

That's good work around for these folks in a pinch. But really they shouldn't have to. We were sold on the technology, it should work (and work well, at that)

  5. Given how hard Ford is working to get as much power as possible from these engines I just doubt they left that much on the table with software settings. Unless it destroys fuel economy and/or longevity.

    Exactly! Longevity.

They also have to tune the cars for the large range of people that will buy them. There's always that guy that will inevitably beat on his engine every chance he gets. Turbos are abusive to engine oil as well as the transmission (torque) compared to their NA counterparts.

These engines have to be ready for that jerk that stomps on his pedal and flies into his parking spot and shuts off his turbo engine immediately. I understand that Ford developed the hell out of these turbo units to withstand abuse, but oil coking is still a reality. And although 300hp+ from 2.0L is technically possible, the question again is the reliability of the engine and all its extra moving parts in the hands of "new" turbo drivers.

  6. I have just been told by my dealer that I'd have to "pay" a fee to be given the version code of the current MFT on my Edge. They failed to tell me the version number the last time it was serviced also. I then asked if it was not in their computer system under my car's file and the service person said said no, they'd have to run a check on it with a special program. I don't believe this and wonder if there's any way to tell on my own what version update I have. Any ideas?

You should be able to to find that information if you log into SyncMyRide.com and get it linked to your VIN.

Btw, you don't need 2 threads for the same thing.

  7. Just need to vent. Yesterday I had the day off. Thought I would pamper myself to a trip to the nail salon. Parked my Edge in a space in front of the salon where I could see it through the glass walls. (Spaces are perpendicular to the building. Not slanted or anything weird.) When my nail tech jumped back and screamed, I of course turned around to see what was goign on behind us. A lady driving a Toyota Camry had puilled in tot he parking space next to my car. But when she went to hit her brake to stop, she hit the accelerator instead and almost crashed into the salon. She managed to not hit the brick pillar in front of that space by hitting my car Edge instead! Not mad just a tad sick about it. It's thankfully not too bad and can be fixed but I have only had it for two months and otherwise it was in perfect condition besides a few swirl marks!

    That sucks!

But at least she didn't go through the window and hurt anybody.

  8. OEMs tend to tune turbo engines for reliability so there is plenty of room. Look at what is done on the audi 1.8T and BMW 135/335/535 with juicebox/proceed devices. Custom tunes for various octane levels and minro bolt ons and they are increasing power way beyond stock numbers. 50-60hp at the crank is not much for a turbo car in stock form.

I tend to agree here, but the question is reliable power.

I don't know about the manufacturing tolerances of these vehicles so I can't really speak to how much power can be had from these engines. How I see it, Ford is already squeezing a lot of power out of the 2.0L unit at 240HP.

Having said that though, I'm pretty sure it's the Ford Duratec 2.0L unit that also powers the fiesta rally cars that claim 600-800 HP running 2-3 BAR boost.

  9. What are the recommended (safe) jacking points on 2012 Edge AWD when using a floor jack? Any assistance would be appreciated.

The recommended points are in your manual.

As normal FWD unibody vehicles, the pinch welds before the rear and after the front wheels are recommended. Get an adapter for your jack to accept that point if you don't already have one.

If you can't get your hands on one, I would use the floor jack on the reinforced subframe points by the control arm to lift, then put a jack stand on the pinch weld.

  10. Yes, it runs on regular gas. I also believe that is the recommended fuel. I read somewhere that premium may get you a little bump, but I don't think it was very much.

The direct injection allows it to use the regular 87. Ford does also say that you will gain performance with 91 or better octane. Which makes sense, especially in a heavily boosted small displacement engine.
