Major Upgrade (Rewrite) Details
akirby replied to netizenX's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
That's a limitation of iOS, not sync. Sync has supported SMS text messages since 2008. iOS doesn't support the right Bluetooth profile yet (unless that was fixed in iOS 5) Done. The system no longer has to reboot when you start the car. It just hibernates and then wakes up. Should be a lot faster. My understanding is that there are technical satellite limitations and regulatory issues preventing sync services in Canada - not a marketing decision. -
So you have to pull out your keyfob, unlock the doors, then kick to open? Without the automatic unlocking of the IA system this just doesn't seem useful to me.

What exactly were the symptoms and what was replaced and by whom? The TSB itself doesn't dictate what is or isn't covered by the warranty - it only tells technicians how to fix specific problems. Either the parts are covered by the warranty or not. It doesn't make sense that Ford would pay other claims but deny yours without some extenuating circumstances (or the dealer screwed up). I'm just trying to understand the problem. This doesn't make sense.

Sounds like the wiring to the driver's door has a loose connection.
-
Yes - provided the music isn't DRM protected. And it has to be formatted as FAT32.
-
That makes no sense whatsoever. There is something else going on here that you're not telling us about. The TSB has nothing to do with whether it's covered by the warranty or not. If you only had 44K miles then it should have been covered.

For FM yes if the station supports RDS. You have to enable it in the menu. Not for CDs.

See - that's my point. You're getting all worked up about speculation about what is or isn't there or who's doing what. Whether they changed processors or not or who got contracted to do the development or whether they're using Flash or not really has no bearing on whether the final product works or not. But if you want to give yourself an ulcer about it then go ahead. Just don't keep repeating the same thing here over and over. Most of the folks with the 2.11 upgrade say response time is adequate - and that's with the current hardware and crappy code. There's no reason to believe a few software enhancements and pushing more work to the hardware wouldn't easily solve any remaining lag issues. If it comes out and still doesn't work properly then I'll be the first to criticize them. But that's not going to happen for another couple of months. -

I would expect it to work whether it was a $10K car or a $50K car. No, I'm going by people who got actual demos a few weeks ago. What good does it do to speculate and worry about it now? You can't change it - either it will work or it won't. I just don't understand all the hand-wringing. -
That was the 2011 model year though.

I'd like to see more corroboration than just one blogger. But yes, the earlier info could be wrong. My point is that who coded it or what hardware they used is moot and irrelevant as long as the final product works as advertised. So let's wait to see if it works or not to start stressing out about it. -
There must be some reason they didn't cover it. What was the reason given?

So if you'd only paid HALF that much do you think it would be ok? If somebody paid twice as much as you should they be twice as upset? I'd be upset if Ford wasn't attempting to fix it. It appears that not only are they attempting to fix it but they're improving it at the same time. Who did the coding and the exact hardware details are moot as long as the product works and all indications are that it does. Until someone can prove that it doesn't it's silly to give yourselves a heart attack worrying about it. -

Things like this are usually complicated and we don't really know what role bsquare is playing in the rewrite. I trust Ford and Microsoft not to make the same mistakes that were made the first time. You're really getting yourself all wound up over who's doing what and what type of hardware is being used, etc. - before anyone really has seen the production version of the system. Can we just wait and see how it turns out? -

They did not just update the screens. Don't confuse corporate PR statements with reality. Ford went to Microsoft and Microsoft contracted this guy's company, not Ford. Ford realized their mistake and went to Microsoft to fix it. I'm not sure what else they could have done that would have been better. -
But don't you have to touch the door handle to unlock it when you have IA? I wonder if a regular keyfob works on an IA equipped vehicle? If it does you could program it and then have the proximity sensor simulate a double button press to open the hatch. Or trade it for a 2013 Escape.

Totally missed that. Now I have no idea what's going on, but the demo sure looks promising. -

Where did it say BSQUARE was involved? It was contracted to Microsoft, not BSQUARE. And while I have reservations about them continuing to use Flash, I'll wait and see the final product before jumping to conclusions. I don't think Ford is stupid enough to have a repeat occurrence. -
But that only works if the vehicle is unlocked, and if you're pushing the button on the keyfob to unlock it then you can just as easily push the button to open the tailgate. This is only really useful with Intelligent Access. Besides - it's not for sure that the tailgate switch is simply completing a circuit or if it's actually sending a signal over the data bus which would be way harder to duplicate. Edit: you also have to make sure the proximity switch doesn't activate when you drive over something or an animal walks underneath the vehicle.
-
Somehow being the key word. Chances are the sensor is tied into the computer module that controls the liftgate and you won't have that software on the Edge. Not to mention it's also tied into the Intelligent Access. Highly doubtful this could be retrofitted.

If you read the last couple of paragraphs Microsoft was directing the work so Ford was contracting with Microsoft. I was surprised to hear they're still using Flash however. I'd like to see something from Ford or Microsoft to confirm this. -
But probably the only way to get that feature.
-
Either your ground cable isn't properly connected to the frame or you messed up the ABS wheel speed sensor and/or TPMS receiver.

The owner's manual tells you what needs to be replaced - you're not at the mercy of the dealership. Go by what the manual says and you're golden.
