Why? If the rings don't seat properly during break in then they allow oil to seep into the cylinder and get burned off. It matches the symptoms and should be checked even though it's not the only possibility.
-
Pure nitrogen does not expand as much under heat but that's only a problem if you're a Nascar driver and you're worried about a quarter pound of pressure. There are benefits (drier, not as heat sensitive, doesn't leak out as fast) but they don't really matter to everyday drivers.
-
Sorry, I take things literally. Sounds like you meant to ask "How do I tell which tire or how low it is before stopping". I'm not sure whether the computer knows the actual pressure or if it's just getting a fault from the TPMS sensor or whether it knows which tire (depends on whether it has a sensor at each wheel or one for the entire vehicle. Either way it does not display this information. Some vehicles do but Ford has not implemented this feature. So you gotta stop and take out the tire gauge.
-
Is this a trick question? You take out the tire pressure gauge and check each one. The onboard system is not a substitute for regularly checking your tire pressure. It can be low before the warning goes off. You don't need Nitrogen. The biggest advantage is that it's drier than regular air. All the other benefits are very minor or non-existent for street driving. It's certainly not worth $80. Just use that new tire pressure gauge that you're going to buy and check the pressure once a month and you'll be just fine.

See if there is any oil in the coolant or vice versa - that would indicate a blown head gasket. But that usually produces white smoke. Compression test is quick and easy and should tell you if it's a single cylinder or all of them and that should help the diagnosis. Note that improper break-in isn't guaranteed, just a possibility.
-
Because full synthetic is too slippery to allow the rings to seat properly. They used to use special break-in oil or this but that's no longer necessary. Read these threads: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/2010-what-oil-and-oil-filter-do-you-use http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/588-engine-break-in

Actually I'm not sure Mobil 1 5W-20 full synthetic meets the Ford spec. The wording is suspicious: Note that it says "meets or exceeds" the Ford WSS-M2C945-A spec but it specifically avoids those words on the M2C930-A spec which is what the Edge requires. How quickly did you switch to Mobil-1? It's possible the rings did not have time to seat properly if you switched too soon. I would switch back to Motorcraft 5W-20 to be safe.

Yes, Job 1 is the first run for the new model year. It sounds like they just changed the color of the carpet, not the seats or dash or anything else.
-
Look for any leaks and check cylinder compression first. Which oil have you been using?

The dealer can print the DORA at any time which will show the X plan pricing. If they're telling you they can't give it to you now they're lying.

If it's a $1700 MSRP difference I'm not sure why it's a $2100 Z plan difference unless there is a big difference in the markup on the options. Ordering 2012 Edge - SEL or Limited

With Z plan it's probably less than $1500 difference. I'd get the Limited, no question. -
I don't have anything to do with the forum software, but I'll ask Robert.

That's great but I wouldn't be a fan of that dealership any more. You probably didn't need a fuel injector flush and if you did it shouldn't have cost $300.

Some think the new maps aren't as good as the old ones from NavTeq. I don't think it would be a big issue unless you're in an area with a lot of new construction.

If it comes back then it's not rail dust unless you drive close to a rail yard frequently.

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
akirby replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
The only denials I've heard on warranties is for aftermarket mods of the affected parts or obvious lack of lubrication changes. Don't forget you have a 5/60 powertrain factory warranty. I don't think Ford would charge you the same price for maintenance including inspections that it would cost you to buy just the parts. They wouldn't be making any money and trust me - they make money on the warranty and maintenance plans or they wouldn't be selling them. Sounds like you want to "force" your wife to take it in for service and that will accomplish it. It's your money. -
Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
akirby replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
The reason the maintenance guide doesn't show a 50K mile service is that the only thing due is engine oil and filter and they want you to go by the onboard computer, not a set interval. You can get the oil changed whenever you want - they just give you 12 of them. You can do then every 10K or sooner. I don't think it will cost you anywhere near that much to DIY but let's say worst case it's break even. Why pay all that money up front for stuff you won't use until 6 years from now? Just put the money in the bank and draw from it whenever you need maintenance? You can get interest in the meantime and you have an emergency fund to use any way you want. I just hate to see people paying that much up front for something they won't be using any time soon. -
Correct. But that only happens when you're doing a lot of braking, not in everyday driving as nextime implied. I suspect he had air in the line and flushing the new fluid got rid of the bubbles causing the change in braking.

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
akirby replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
Premium Care ESP is the best you can get so don't worry about little things not being covered - you don't really have an option. You don't want a 3rd party warranty. Ditch the maintenance plan. You can pay as you go and if you do part of it yourself you can save a lot. A lot of the cost is paying for the tech to do "inspections' at every service which isn't really necessary. -

There have been several self-installed Sync updates in the past. And it sounds like going forward all updates will be self-installable once the new rewrite is finished. Patience. -
I know. That was more for someone who might read the "more oil provides better cooling" and think it's ok to add even more.
-
I think that's illegal in California....

Sounds like he got a U.S. spec radio OR U.S. spec programming. If it can be changed it would have to be done by the dealer. It should be a warranty issue.
