  1. Just put in an order! Except for the sun visor lamps, this would complete my LED conversion for the entire car (2011 Edge Limited). Quality of the replacements is great (have the edge-2 DRLs and the other kits). Only main issues is that a map light and license plate light seem to be dying already. Need to check into why.
  2. I had a Ford dealer install a Curt Hidden Hitch with wiring for a trailer that wasn't the FoMoCo model and that hasn't invalidated the warranty. I think the stock hitch may add a radiator cooler or frame stiffener, but most of that isn't needed if you need only a bike rack. I've had warranty service since (leaking power steering pump) and it was covered without an issue.
  3. Any luck on coming to a solution on getting the following items enabled on a Edge with DRLs in the Turn Signal lights? The challenges listed: 1. Retain courtesy light function when unlocking car. 2. 100% DRL with lights on auto, Turn DRLs on 3. 70% when headlights on 4. Amber LEDs light with turn signal only. I think i just need clarification what the black and white cable control. For now I've installed them just to the factory harness and waterproofed and electrically isolated the black and white leads, while not installing the relay just yet. The brightness in just this config is nice, but I would like to have the turn signals working too
  4. The sloppy transmission/thunk when accelerating from a slow speed requires two fixes. Both are related to TSBs for the issue. One is a mechanical fix (drilling out some ball bearings/valves and the other a software patch to to the onboard computer. I had them done at different times. After the mechanical fix, it became actually worse. Once I took it in again and had the patch applied, the car drives so much better, a night and day difference. I can still recreate it if I try but it is a much better ride now. Figured I better fix it now before having to replace the transmission after warranty due to all the strikes.
  5. I've got most of the car upgraded to LEDs and the thing is super bright now. However I've started taking the family to drive in movies, now when I open the door to the car during the movie, the thing lights up like the sun.
  6. I haven't installed them just yet, but the thing I don't know is how the internal controller is set up and what signals it is expecting when it receives inputs from the headlight and turn signal lines. My biggest concern is the turn signal DRL since I do have those DRLs turned on since I took my Edge up here to Canada and had them turned on. I'll wait a bit until Dan has that config buttoned up. However the build quality of the devices themselves look pretty top notch. Another question, since the unit has its own power plug, what happens to the OEM harness? Is it not connected anywhere?
  7. Just received this DRL today, and it's a bit confusing deciding how to install. What I think would be useful is a matrix of what the light does when it receives information on the white or black lines. (White - DRL - Headlights/Parking LIghts / Black Turn signals) . So I think I would want to run through a thought exercise to see what might happen in different configurations. So, let's break the conversation between the DRL and Turn Signal. I am assuming this based on Dan's recommended install. 1. DRL connects to headlight line. Headlights off - 100% power, Headlights on - 70% power. 2. Turn signal connects to turn signal line - No signal - 0% power, SIgnal 100% flash on and off. So there is also the courtesy light question: Original light pipe lights when you unlock vehicle (headlights off/ parking lights on). If I apply the assumptions above --> unlock car, parking lights on, headlights off (apply 1) - 100% power when unlocking. Now lets change 1. 1. DRL connects to parking lights - Parking lights off - 100% power, Parking lights on - 70% power. Now when you unlock the car, Parking lights on, DRLs 70% power. Turn on car and the headlights still 70% power. Now if you're in Canada and have the DRLs attached to the turn signals, the parking lights and headlights are off, meaning as you drive, DRLs are at 100% until the auto headlights turn on, then 70%. So let's summarize: Per the original MFR instructions on a car attached like (White - HEADLIGHTS, Black - TURN SIGNALS) 1. DRL will be 100% at unlock, 100% started with headlights off. 2. DRL will be 100% when unlocking or driving without headlights and 70% when headlights are on, 3. Turn signals tied to turn signals regardless if turn signal DRL is on and will be off until flashing. Move the configuration to (White - PARKING LIGHT, Black - TURN SIGNALS) 1. DRL will be 70% at unlock, 100% started with headlights off. 2. DRL will be 70% when headlights are on, 70% when unlocking or driving without headlights. 3. Turn signals tied to turn signals regardless if turn signal DRL is on and will be off until flashing. Now I haven't tested any of this, and I am going on only assumptions based on the thread I've read so far. I will try to test this soon on my 2011 Edge and report back if I can. Please let me know if my logic seems wrong, or if Dan feels my assumptions are wrong.
  8. Trying these out from ebay. 60 LED, Type 1, 3157/3457, but no information on lumen output. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170944568756?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:BIN&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2650 Should get them next week. They are longer than the original ones Cellbine uses, but with no tech specs who knows how they will work. Very interested in the Daytimebrightlites Edge 2 since the price is much more economical but I'll wait on some reports before I plunk down 2 bills.
  9. Canadian dealers will turn on the DRLs in US made cars and only charge the labor. My 2011 Limited had the turn/parking lamps turned into DRLs since the headlamps are HID. On a halogen set the low beams would be set to 80%. I think the software to turn them on only exists in the Canadian service departments since the dealer I bought it at (Washington) couldn't figure out how to get it done.
  10. Just state that you are exporting the car and will not drive it in WA. They will issue you a MSO document instead of of a title which you can use to title it in Canada. I wanted charged sales tax in WA. I'll be charged in Vancouver. Talking to the Autoplan people up here made the process seem very simple. Some dealerships and shipping companies talk like 90% of cars can't be imported. The biggest hurdle would be the emissions inspection but if you pass this in the states you should be good. Already got an insurance quote up here. (expensive!)
  11. I've just purchased a 2011 Edge Limited AWD in Renton, WA and I've begun the process to import the car to my new home in Vancouver BC. In researching the process of importing and I found this site - http://www.monsieurmaggot.com/Autoimporthome.html which lists out all the steps (with pictures) of importing a Subaru to the Great White North. Really demystifies the process as it shows all the forms and stickers associated to the import. The list clears up what taxes are applicable and which agency gets what. I think its a must if you want to bring your Edge up north to read this site. Canada is a bit different (at least in BC) with the fact that the car insurance company does both insurance and registration of the vehicle (Autoplan). They gave me a list of items that need to be provided in order to gain insurance and get plates for your car. I'll try and scan that document and post as it shows what they are actually looking for, and how to get discounts on basic insurance. Now talking about modifications. Talking to some dealerships up here about what needs to be done, the discussion always comes back to the DRLs. The Edge dash has secondary metric measurements, and there is an option to change the digital readouts to km and celsius. This is all about getting both a federal safety inspection and a provincial one, which will require both a dynometer test (for emissions) and a physical test drive. The only roadblock is the DRLs. I've got some leads on a couple of dealerships that would make that modification on a LTD, so I will report that when the process is done. I've been researching for months and I am this close to finishing the import, and I've the seen the angst other people have had doing this process so whatever I find out, I'll share. As an additional note, Sound Ford in Renton, WA has been exceptional in working this out with me. They will provide any documentation you need free of charge and answer all questions. I purchased the car from Hawaii, in prep of my move up north and they've answered all my questions. Ian up there as the internet sales manager worked through a 2 month buying process and got me the car I needed from another dealer. Check them out if you want to buy. Good luck gents.
