  1. By the way this is correct...the OEM battery did have an eye, I believe it was near the negative terminal and mine was black.
  2. There was only the one message and the yellow I is gone. Just so frustrating to use that damn interface and Ford has been absolutely no help over the last few years. I just went through two visits and three months of waiting for Ford to get me the MFT update and they totally dropped the ball. Never called back, never followed up and actually closed out the ticket even though the last entry was for them to add the update to the customer satisfaction program. Never happened.
  3. OMG...thank God this isn't my daily driver...I would have dumped this thing long ago. Too bad it doesn't make financial sense to get rid of it. First the good news; truck starts every time with the new battery and the alternator checked out fine. But on the bad side the stupid door ajar warning is back. But so are the other oddities that drive me batty about this thing. When the door ajar light appeared backing out of the garage I decided to open and close the door again. Well the light went out but some how the audio source went from FM to USB. I went to change it back and by mistake hit Sirius. So I got the no Sirius subscription message. Cleared that and went back to FM. But now the little i was lighted yellow. So selecting that brought up the message list. When I tried to hit view, rather than showing the message it pulled up the Sirius screen but the source remained FM. No buttons did anything to change the screen for a good 5 minutes. So irritating.
  4. I had originally looked at the larger units but all the ones i saw were lead acid so they required more maintenance. Since this would be for the wife i want to avoid anything that makes me have to remember to do much more. The lithium ion versions claim to hold a charge for months or more depending on the cells. So far so good with the new battery, I will get the rest of the electrical system tested tomorrow. Also electrical cleaner on the door switch may have helped. I guess time will tell.
  5. Was actually going to look into one of those lithium ion battery jumpers. Found one at HD on clearance but after reading the reviews I need to do some more research. Apparently some only supply a trickle of current so it can take 45+ min to get enough juice to jump. Some claim less than 10. Would-be nice to have just in case you get stuck with no one around to help.
  6. Phew...ordered a Gold battery from AAP because it had the highest CCA. Well that may have been a mistake. I probably should have checked the OEM battery first; it had 580 CCA vs 850CCA. Not that this will cause a problem in and of itself but the battery size also increased by about 2" longer and about an inch higher. It barely fits in the tray but more importantly the cables barely reached. So since I don't know what tolerance Ford has on these harnesses and if I was at the short side or long side this size 65 may not work for all. macbwt...yeah plan on doing that tomorrow. Right now I have the trickle charger topping off the battery and when I drop off the old one for the core I will have them double check it. Just didn't want to take the chance it wasn't the battery and drive it over there tonight and get stuck. I would rather have it dead in my garage then there...especially when they are saying it will be -5F sometime in the next 24 hours.
  7. Txs...will double check tonight when I get home. Hopefully I can get it jumped but apparently a family friend and the janitor at the school couldn't get it to start. Might just pick up a battery on the way home and throw it in. Looks like a battery from Advanced Auto after discounts will be right around $100 for a 850CCA version.
  8. So over the weekend the family got up and headed out to Lowes which is about a 20 minute ride. Truck started fine and drove fine. When I got to Lowes I ran in for about 5 minutes, while in there the wife was in the truck with engine off but radio on. When I came out all the truck did was click. What was extra strange was the clicking continued even after the key was removed from the ignition. Each time you tried to start it seems like the clicking runs for a preset amount of time regardless of key. Luckily someone helped jump start it but even then it failed to start 3 x's and I had to leave it connected for a couple minutes. The rest of the day the trucks started fine and was good till today when it left my wife and son stranded. It is a 2011 so maybe the battery is getting a little weak but I have my doubts it is only the battery. Recently the stupid door ajar light has come back and I am wondering if this leaves the truck in a different electrical state when it is off causing a parasitic draw. Any thoughts? Suggestions on what else to try? At this point I will probably just put a new battery in since it has had almost 5 yrs of service and likely weak. Just concerned I may kill a new battery if there is some other issue I don't resolve. Some other forums mention to check the Park position. I would have thought if the truck didn't sense the tranny was in Park nothing would happen but I could be wrong.
  9. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Whitney, spent the day fixing my sisters car. Responded to your IM and eagerly await the fix. So far I haven't seen anything too bad since the day I got it back but tomorrow I will be doing a couple hour drive each way and need the gps. So I will see if it is functioning or not.
  10. SweetCandyEdge...I had the same problem and Shay from IVT requested I run a vehicle health report then check back. It still didn't work for me so she suggested I go to the dealer to get it installed since they know about some VIN's being problematic. My problem is I went to the dealer who told me it was up to date at 3.4 (turned out to be nav version) and sent me on my way. Unfortunately they totally wiped the system so everything was messed up and I had no navigation for at least 30 minutes. I contacted Shay again, she got me in touch with someone at Ford that explained the situation to the dealer and they told me to set another appointment. This time the dealer said the server was down but even if it was up they couldn't do the update without charging $150 since Ford won't cover it....even though Ford said they would. This time when I left, everything was wiped again but the nav seemed OK, its position was a little off but this appears to be normal for this crappy system. Other than that the system was OK for about 10 minutes, then the entertainment screen completely stopped responding to input. It would beep but not change anything. About an hour later it started to work again but there is something wrong with this system other than just software that has NEVER been addressed. Oddly enough when I got home that night the SMR site was working and shows the update as available now. I sent another message to Shay last week telling her my frustrations with Ford and the dealer plus my concern that if I install the software and I continue to have problems the dealer will just blame my install but there is clearly something wrong with this system. I have already paid once to have Ford diagnose the system only to be told it is fine but I have videos that prove otherwise. It is a week later and still no response from Shay. This is my first Ford and likely last...this ownership experience has been nothing but headaches and passing of the buck. Ford says it is the dealer and the dealer says it is Ford. In the end it leaves their customers stranded. Good luck!
  11. I would definitely pass on these even at the crazy low price if you live in an area with snow and you don't run dedicated snow tires. While these were fine last year in the snow, the amount of tread left after one year of driving is not enough for me to feel safe letting the wife and little man go out. This is with at most 20k on them. Luckily I have a set of dedicated snows I will put on this year, but if not these would be getting tossed in favor of a new set for winter. There simply isn't enough tread depth left to be safe in snow. If I could have gotten two safe winters out of these I would say they were worth the price but if <20K makes the them wear out tis much they are a no go for me in the future...unless they are free.
  12. Well Ford suggested I run vehicle history report then see if the update shows up. Well still nothing...so guess I am SOL since my local dealers are terrible and would barely touch MFT when we had a warranty.
  13. For me I had to replace the camera, but you lose the visual aides. The only way to get those back is to have it reprogrammed by the dealer.
  14. Still nothing for me...I hope they are just doing a rolling update and I will get this too.
  15. Nice...I might have to start looking for things like this. At this event they paired you up and you followed the instructor around the track which I thought was pretty ballsy. They had no idea what level any of us were at and just told us to hang with them. We did our best and had a blast doing it.
  16. I left out the less exciting part of the day where they had a small autocross course where you got to test an A3 vs 328 and a CLA250 back to back then jumped in an A6 vs 535 vs C350 I think. It was fun but nothing like pushing an RS5 or R8 around a road course. I think one of the most amazing things was just the sound....when you went full throttle is was impossible not to smile.
  17. I know this is a Ford forum but figured car guys and girls really just appreciate the marvel of machinery. Anyone a couple weeks ago I got an email from Audi inviting me to this event at the Monticello Motor Club and the best part it was free. Well maybe the best part was that they let me take an RS5 & an R8 out on the track in the rain. Holy sh!t was it amazing! Nothing like being able to do over 100mph in the rain. The grip was phenomenal, I can't even put words to describe it. I never thought I would be into these driving events but now I can't wait to go to another. By the way if anyone ever gets the chance to go to something at Monticello Motor Club go! It might be the only time you get to go, they gave me membership info. Family membership initiation fee is 175k and like 20k a year dues. Absolutely stunning track though. So has anyone else done something like this and what were your thoughts?
  18. Akirby...I don't deny Ford has rolled out updates but what I take issue to is how they have left customers stranded. I noted this problem to dealers and corporate while under warranty. But they never had a fix...then a TSB addresses the issue and I am no longer covered. So if I want the GPS I paid for to work properly I have to pay them more money. Another example of this is the ambient lighting issue. But even if what you said is true about Sync3 this will become the next problem for MFT owners. There are known problems with the APIM, but by the time this new version comes out most will be out of their extended warranties. So when the corrected code still doesn't work owners will be stuck paying for parts that have been defective since day one.
  19. This may be true but I was told not just by the dealer but also by Ford Corp that there was nothing more they could do and I had to wait for the rewrite. Which hasn't fixed all the issues obviously. I believe my contact at the time was Mario Ronda. So there is some truth to what you say but often Ford Corp is just as bad. In fact they way they handled this whole MFT thing left a lot of dealers in a tough spot. They had to handle constant complaints from their customers knowing there would be NO support from Corp.
  20. Mine has done this since day one...no dealer would ever do anything about it. I was always told to wait for the next update. Seems to have gotten better over the many revisions of MFT but has NEVER gone away. We often get the X over GPS indicating it doesn't have a signal even though the view to the sky is clear and the satellite radio all function fine. At this point we don't rely on the crappy GPS we paid for and just use our phones. Such a waste of money, my wife wanted it because she thought it would be easier...so much for that.
  21. Ford does pay less for warranty work and from my experience they are even more reluctant to touch anything MFT related. Many times the issue is not resolved the first time. Good luck dealing with Ford dealers...Even with having Ford Corp involved I had some really bad experiences. I think we have tried 4 or 5 dealers and would only go back to one. We are lucky there are several in the area, some places aren't so lucky.
  22. cjaasg62301...not sure what you mean by back the studs out. Do you mean the studs that fix the trim piece to the hatch? Trying to remember what it looked like in there and understand what this does for you. I think the way xK317Hx showed in his write up was done so you didn't have to separate the painted trim piece which is known to break tabs easily.
  23. I still can't believe what happened, but today at lunch I get in my other car which is an Audi A4 and as I start driving a spider came out of the headliner. So my reaction was to smack it with the back of my hand. Well I got the spider but also cracked my windshield and not just a small one. The spider crack is probably 6" high and a foot wide. How the hell is that possible? I would have expected it would take a lot more force to break it...hell my hand does not hurt at all. Anyone have a similar experience?
  24. I think it is some sort of vibration dampener. I don't recall exactly what I did since it has been a while but I think I just took the whole thing off as an assembly.
