  1. I just figured I would give a little update to this thread for others looking for replacement tires. First of all, the rebate process was super smooth and all rebates were paid including the doubles from DTD. So if they were to run this promotion again in the future I wouldn’t hesitate to make a purchase. It also turned out that opening the card with them gives you 6 months deferred, so win win. I had the first set installed on the wife’s Edge a few weeks back. The OEM Michelin Lattitudes were getting low and were starting to slip a lot on damp roads, mainly due to the leaf litter. Since there was a chance of some snow some nights I figured it was best to just do the swap. Initial impressions of the tires were not super positive. They do appear to be as quiet as the OEM’s but this is somewhat subjective especially since I tend to listen to the radio while driving. But I found wet traction to be less than I had hoped for. Even a few days in after all of the release compound should have been washed/worn off the tires seemed to push/slip rather easily. But after a few weeks the grip in the wet seems good but there is still a sense of pushing/rolling in turns. I am guessing the sidewalls are not as stiff as the Michelin’s even though I believe the load ratings are the same. Recently I had the same tires installed on my Audi A4 since a snow storm was headed our way and I figured these would be better than what I had. Again I noticed the initial wet traction was weak but it seemed to get better quickly. This may be due to the longer 40+ mile commute each way. Either way I was still concerned about snow traction with the impending storm. Turned out this was unfounded. We ended up getting close to a foot and never once lost grip…unless I was trying to have some fun. I had to go up and down several steep inclines, all of which were completely covered in snow, some only an inch or so but the hill by my house I could hear it hitting the undercarriage. Braking in the snow was also very good. Don’t get me wrong nothing beats dedicated snows but I was happily surprised with the snow performance. Gas mileage may have decreased a little but this is tough to confirm since they typically switch to winter blends and we see a 1-2mpg drop. Overall for around $250 after discounts for a set of four I can’t complain at all. The dry handling performance on the Audi is just as good as any other tire I have had, so maybe this pushing is just an issue of the taller sidewall and extra weight with the Edge. Or it since I don’t DD the Edge maybe this has always been the case, it isn’t like the Edge is designed to be a canyon carver.
  2. And if you think about it...most shops charge $3/valve stem so getting the sensors is only $35 more.
  3. No real benefit but I hate lights let alone ones that flash so the $47 for all four sensors is well worth it to me. Check ebay there are a couple places selling four packs cheap.
  4. I had a similar issue the first time I used my cargo tray going on vacation. I ended up finding this at Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hitch-Haul-Folding-Receiver-Bar/20512803 It raises the cargo tray and moves it out a bit, just enough that heat is no longer an issue. Plus it allows me to fold it when I get to where I am going and not have to lug it into the hotel, condo etc. One other suggestion...if you go the folding route add some split pipe insulation to the frame of the cargo tray. My unit came close to the bumper when folded. This little bit of foam keeps it from causing an damage.
  5. I have never driven the nokians but a few people on another forum I trust said they were the best all around snow tire...not only did they perform great in all forms of slippery conditions but were also great when the roads were clear. So if it were me I would push the nokians. As for the TPMS alarm...if you are like me it will drive you crazy. When you first turn on the Edge it will beep and a msg will be shown to the left of the dash along with an idiot light on the bottom of the cluster. You can clear the text msg on the left but not the idiot light. What drives me batty is that sometimes the idiot light flashes. So when I switch tires sensors will be going on. Check eBay, there are a few people selling four for about $60...well worth it.
  6. I picked up a few sets of rims just for this...I have one extra set, if you weren't so far away I would say we could work out a deal. But I think you have a good plan, the stock tires are OK but not very confidence inspiring. If you drive anywhere with hills slowing down or stopping with the stockers is sketchy. I would check out a site like Tire Rack since it will give you a bunch of packages that will fit your Edge. I have also purchased from Discount Tire Direct and Tire Buyer in the past but I find TR's database to be more accurate. One other advantage to dedicated snows is you can take them off if the winter is mild and be able to quickly throw them back on when a storm is coming. One other suggestion is to make sure you get the TPMS sensors. I have one set right now that doesn't and the damn alarm is annoying.
  7. I believe a few here have added the stock unit, a bit more expensive than aftermarket but it doesn't take up any space in your cargo area.
  8. Think you are better off with that or using your phone. I find the OEM Nav to be terrible. Sometimes it can't locate me for a while and most routes it picks are questionable. I pretty much only use my phone now since it is so unreliable.
  9. I wouldn't be too worried...probably just the previous owner trying to be cheap. They probably had a blow out and put the cheapest thing on they could find just to be able to turn it in. If you are really worried I would check out Tirerack.com to see if they carry the Hankooks. If so and you have a lot of tread left on them it might be worth asking them about shaving a tire for you. I had a tire with a hole in the sidewall a few years back on my Audi. With that car the rolling diameter has to be very close so replacing it with a new one would be detrimental to the differentials. I think it was TR that offered a service to have the tire shaved to match the other tires tread depth. In the end I opted to get four new tires because the price for the tire shaved was about the price of two tires...since they had less than half their tread I didn't think it was worth it.
  10. I agree...I gave up on them. They would often offer the 6 months for 25 bucks and I would add it, then got tired of threatening the cancellation just to get that price back again. Plus the last time I called I inquired about the other services and was told they could not be discounted and would end up costing more than the music...no thanks. Google and waze are free.
  11. Hmm...in the past I never got services like fuel and weather with the free service. I also don't remember getting the no subscription splash screen. Can anyone else confirm if they have extra services and the warning msg? Will have to check this out tonight...one of the listed channels is Disney. I am pretty sure I tried it for my little guy and it didn't work.
  12. I know there are several common MFT glitches but recently on a long road trip I found a new one. We stopped to take a break and when we got back in the car the USB music would no longer play because the system said the device was not recognized. This happens on occasion and usually goes back to working after a reindexing of the drive or just by going in and out of menus and back to it. As I was going through screens the map caught my eye. I noticed a green line along side the road like I used to have when I had Sirius. Confused I went to the info screen to check weather...sure enough it was working as were the other services. Since my USB music wasn't working I figured I would check out the music channels. This is a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes I get the usual message that there is no subscription but if you hit cancel the music somethimes comes through anyway other times not. Seems like certain stations are unlocked but not others. The stations that come in do not vary with restarts. Not sure how MFT could screw this up because I thought Sirius sent a signal to activate radios so that got me thinking of all the vehicles on the lot. All of them have Sirius service; so is there a "dealer" mode that gives you the service? Just wondering if this most recent glitch enabled that somehow? Can anyone confirm if there is a dealer mode and if certain stations are blocked?
  13. Well I was going to be scheduling a visit to have them look at a few things including my flaky MFT but maybe I will hold off until this is released. Would rather have them troubleshoot on the most recent software revision.
  14. Well first congrats on the baby. Second, I have no first hand knowledge of these tires but other reviews mentioned lack luster snow traction. Being that you live in an area that does get snow I would be less than enthused about running these in the winter. You might want to check local craigslist deals for someone selling take offs or something. You likely won't find 22's but but you should be able to find lots of 18's and maybe some 20's. I have a set of 18" rims I could sell pretty cheap but shipping kills any deals. So definitely look local. This guy doesn't list size but might work and is cheap: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/pts/4642705269.html This price isn't great but maybe they really need to move these and you can get them down: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/pts/4648882837.html
  15. I know for sure my front passenger does ratchet so you might want to double check.
  16. If you pull the belt all the way out you will hear a ratcheting sound...when this happens it will not release belt for you to wiggle. Never noticed it on the front seats, have only used it on rear seats for kids seats but just confirmed front passenger does it.
  17. Gas mileage has never been addressed and MFT maybe stable for some but many, myself included continue to have problems. Just this morning on the ride home we stopped at a rest area. Upon restarting the car the USB is no longer recognized. Unfortunately this is common, what isn't common is that the navigation screen was showing traffic data but we don't have an active Sirius plan. After 10 min we lost that but we do have weather, fuel and radio. Not even sure how the MFT screws that up. Traffic data is back...too bad I still can't use the GPS.
  18. I would agree that there tend to be growing pains with a redesign butuch of the complaints are still not addressed in current Edges.
  19. Reading through your negatives I couldn't agree more...MFT is such a dissapointment and mpg is no where near what they claim. I don't normally drive the Edge but we just went on vacation and after spending a few hours on it I do get enraged. Gas mileage struggled to break 22 and the GPS is a complete waste. Set destination at home to route fastest way. It chose the longest time and miles way compared to google maps. No changing settings could correct it we ended up shutting it off since even an hour past the turn off for other route it continued to try to get you to turn around.
  20. Pro might refer to complete package being offered with wiring kit
  21. The valley does clear the stamped cans just fine but not the rolled cans. So that was my point, check your cans before you consider any hitch.
  22. Can't comment on this particular hitch but male sure whatever you get is designed for the type of exhaust cans on your Edge. I had this issue as described herehttp://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/5058-receiver-hitch-project/?fromsearch=1
  23. Good...glad someone else got a good deal on a set. Mine got delivered today. Once we get back from vacation I will get them mounted. My plan was to pick up snows now and all seasons in the spring but the deal was too good to pass up. Think I will drive these for a bit just to make sure there are no issues then get snows mounted on my other set of rims.
  24. They sent me three but when I asked he told me to do the yokohama rebate form by mail then do the DTD rebates online.
  25. Yeah I am still scratching my head on how they make money with this deal
