  1. I have a 2008 Edge with 130k and my PTU has StB. It shakes the car at about 10mph, then calms down, and then whines big time as I accelerate. At this point it's not driveable. I saw the updated versions of the PTU on eBay for $650.00 delivered. My question is this, has anyone done a straight up replacement with a new unit? Are there any proprietary tools involved in replacing it? I can't find any tutorials anywhere on the Internet. I'm considering taking on the job because the Ford dealers in NJ are very expensive. Thanks for the help guys!
  2. AWESOME...thanks for the details! I just needed to get my bearings once I get down there. Now I'm hoping it warms up a bit here in NJ to get this done now that the rain has stopped.
  3. Thanks for the quick response. I have a 2008 Edge SEL AWD. I saw the pics you posted before, especially the post on the ecoboost forum with the guy who had the 5 extensions on his impact gun...that's the one I was trying to work off of by taking the driver-side wheel off. I guess I have to do the ramp thing being that I can't see the plug through the wheel well at all. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be better and I'll attack it again then. One quick question, in the 5th photo of that post...you're saying that picture was taken from the bottom of the car? Also, is that the drive shaft at the top of the photo. LMK. Thanks again for all your help.
  4. Guys, I've been reading this thread back and forth and can't seem to grasp where the fill plug is. I took off the passenger side wheel, took off the plastic inner fender and I can't get a clear shot to the PTU plug...in fact, I can't even see it! I crawled up underneath there and I see the drive shaft going into what I think it is....but I still can't find the fill plug. It sure isn't easy with the car jacked up in the rain and cold of the driveway, but I have to get this taken care of because I just started getting the black spots in the driveway and a low pitched rumble when I accelerate. Any help would be extremely appreciated! Thanks.
  5. I had a feeling, before I decided to check here, that there was an issue with these. This seems to be an issue of crummy plastic parts. I can honestly say...in all the cars I've owned...that I ever had a windshield washer nozzle disintegrate in my hands like this. Bought a new set ...OEM Ford Part...for $16.88 delivered from a Ford dealership in Braintree, MA on eBay. The lines seemed to be OK, my dealer wanted over $100 to diagnose the problem.."Yeah, the pumps go on those cars all the time"...and it wasn't a pump, the connection broke at the nozzle. What thieves. Thanks for the confirmation guys!
  6. Isn't that where the water pump is located, behind the timing cover?
  7. You nailed it!....can't thank you enough. I guess I'm old school in thinking interior electronics are tied to the cockpit fuse block and the engine electronics are tied to the fuse block under the hood. Like I said, I must be missing something here! Thanks for bailing me out!
  8. I hope you guys can help. One of my cell phone chargers crapped out and caused an arch in the 12v accessory socket on the dash and has stopped working. I went down to the fuse block and for the life of me can't find the blown fuse. The 12v accessory plug in the glove box has stopped working as well, so I think they are on the same fuse. The owners manual doesn't clearly describe which fuse it is...unless I'm missing something there. The rear socket on the console still works. Do any of you guys know which number fuse supplies power to these things? Thanks!
  9. Start tracking your mileage using the 'Fuelly' app on your cell phone...that will take the guess work out of it.
  10. Nice look & fit! What brand kit did you buy?...and did you do any door parts?
  11. Thanks guys, for a 5 year old car, I get quite a few compliments where ever I go....especially from Edge owners. I just clay barred, waxed and sealed it...the black paint came back alive very nicely. I hot linked it on the name up above in the picture of the wheel. It takes you to Detailed Image where I bought it. I did two coats on the entire wheels and used a little more than 3/4 of the small sized bottle. I applied it with a foam pad and buffed it off each time with a microfiber towel. They clean up so easily now...only using the foam car wash from my foam cannon and a soft terry wheel brush.
  12. Thanks!...I'm really digging the new look too, it was worth the time and money. I used H&R springs and Monroe Sensa-matic shocks and struts. The shocks I got from 'Just Suspension' for $192.90 delivered and then received a $60 Rebate for a final total of $132.90...at those prices I had to do it. The H&R springs I got from 'THMotorsports' for $223.26 delivered....those were the least expensive prices I could find. But, to get those prices, you have to have patients in getting them. The shocks took me a month to the day to receive and the springs about 2 1/2 weeks. Nobody "STOCKS" them so they have to either have them dropped shipped directly from the Manufacturer or wait for them to get them first and then ship them out to you. Personally, I'd rather save the money and wait a bit. I had a local guy install the shocks and springs and he only charged me $300, at that price I couldn't refuse! Sure beats laying on my back under the car for a whole day skinning my knuckles. I did the new brakes and caliper paint myself in my garage...that G2 Caliper Paint was easy to do if you follow the directions and use a foam brush to apply it instead of the crappy brush they supply in the kit. Hope this helps. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Gary

  20. Has anyone done the H11 to H9 conversion on an Edge? They say to trim the tabs and it fits perfectly. The H9 has more lumen while not over heating the wires or plugs. Here is a link to a Subaru Forum with a bunch of posts. The opening post show the difference in temps between the two at the wiring harness and plug....LINK
  21. Gentlemen... I wanted to show you my 2008 SEL AWD Edge now that the tires & wheels are done and to thank you all for the info you collectively provided me to get this done right the first time. I lost all our vehicles (and more) in Super Storm Sandy last October and I grabbed this Edge as a stop gap car to buy time before buying a new one. Since I've had it I'm really enjoying it immensely and decided to fix it up a bit. So far I've replaced all the speakers with Polk drivers and sub connected to the stock CD/DVD/NAV Sync head unit, installed all new WeatherTech mats and rear tray, and had an auto start installed. First I did the brake rotors with the G2 Caliper Paint Kit in gloss black after taking off the old pads to paint...then I installed the new pads. I had enough paint to put 2 heavy coats on the calipers and one coat on the center hubs of the rotors... Before... After.... Then I glass coated the wheels I got from Joe at Detroit Wheels with 22ple VM1...it took the chrome to another level, they now look wet (hard to see in the picture) and supposedly it lasts 2 years. I really did it so they are easier to clean! This is the original stock setup, the typical SEL high stance.... Then I had the H&R springs installed with new Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks and struts. It dropped it just like they said, about 2" in the rear and 1.5" in the front... Then the new 20" wheels & tires. I went with the Pirelli Scorpions and they hardly have any road noise and ride great.... I'm happy with the transformation as the car now looks nicer and handles way better on the highway off ramps without sacrificing too much ride comfort. Make no mistake, it does ride a bit stiffer and will bottom out when hitting a very deep pothole (happened twice), but the trade off was well worth it. Compared to the stock setup, this thing handles like it's on rails...for an Edge that is! I still have to train the sensors, the weird thing was I put the wheels on, took it for a test drive to ensure everything was done correctly and the tire warning never came up. In 2 days of city driving it still never came up, but once I got on the highway and traveled about 20 miles, the warning finally came up. I bought the training tool from Tire Rack, so once it stops raining, I'll give it a go. Thanks again to all my Edge brothers for your invaluable advice! EDIT TO ADD: I just re-trained the new sensors with the Ford Trigger tool and it worked perfectly the first time. Well worth the money if you are going to swap out the tires & wheels every Winter. The whole procedure took all of 2-3 minutes. Here is the part number of the tool needed...
  22. Thanks for the info...I bought the H&R springs on your recommendation and now I'm just waiting on the new shocks to arrive. Then it's new brakes (painting the calipers black w/G2), rotors, shocks, springs, and the tire & wheel set up from Joe at Detroit Wheels.
  23. Mike...I checked your Edge out and love the lowered look of it, you were totally right. I bought the same wheels (on their way now) as Shaun and don't like the new look of it as much as he does. Could you please give me the parts list of what you bought or post a link to where you bought the parts to achieve that? Also, when you did it, did you go with an increased spring rate?...how is the ride now compared to what is was like with the stock springs? When I lowered my Acura TL-S it looked awesome and handled like it was on rails...but the ride was hard as hell and I really don't want that with the Edge this time around. I figure I'll lower it, swap out the rotors for a set of drilled/slotted and put on new brakes all at the same time before I put on the wheels. Thanks brother...
  24. Well, we'll soon find out as I just ordered a set from Joe yesterday. He told me he's already sold OVER half the 500 wheels he originally bought and is getting orders for them almost every day. I opted for the Pirelli tires versus the Goodyear. He's installing the correct, banded sensors in them and balancing as well. I'm going to try putting this 22ple VM1 Rim and Metal Coating on them first in hopes of making them easier to clean and then bolting them on. I bought a TMPS sensor tool from Tire Rack so I should be ready to go. I'll keep you guys posted on how they work out.
