Battery Maintenance on 2016, 2.0L Eco Boost Edge

I don’t know of any car which has its battery elsewhere than the engine compartment. Dragging the positive terminal heavy cable from the trunk or under a seat to the engine compartment is an extra cost which a lot of manufacturers will try to avoid. But that is just my opinion. I would also like to mention, as far as I know batteries like heat but hate cold. So having them in the engine compartment is the most suitable place in a car for a battery. I don’t see any heat shield on the battery on my 2016 Edge but perhaps it location can be interpreted as a heat shield? The battery Is located in an enclosed area like a box with the front side off just behind the steering wheel. Very inaccessible area but I guess prevents direct engine heat to reach the battery? -

Thanks for your post but your experience with batteries is different than mine and that is because there are a lot of factors involved regarding battery life. I had a few cars in my life and I never changed the battery in any one. My last car before the Edge (I leased a 2013 Edge for 3 years before my current 2016) was a 2001 VW Passat which I had since new and I never changed its battery. When I sold her, she had about 220K kilometers and still was like new. Perhaps I’m wrong but I feel as long as you take care of your battery it will last longer than the car. I agree that todays cars have much more electronics which tax the battery more than the older cars but on the other hand most lights on newer cars are LED’s which consume much less power and the electronics do not consume too much power. I had forgotten about the owners guide on my 2016 Edge and checking on it tonight I noticed that I have a low voltage maintenance free battery and that answers my question (I don’t have to check the liquid level). The only thing I have to make sure now is to check if the post are corroded and clean them if I have to. I only have 31K kilometers on my Edge because I don’t drive a lot during the winter but we take a lot of long trips in the summer. This driving habit helps to extend battery life since driving mostly in town, especially in the winter, taxes the battery heavily. -
The battery on a 2016 Edge is located in a very inaccessible area. I don’t know if the battery is maintenance free or not but I want to check the fluid level and as far as I can see the only way to do it is to remove the battery. Any other ideas?

Finally I got to talk to someone today at Ford Credit. Bottom line is they can only extend my lease on a monthly basis (every month I have to contact them to do so) until the pandemic returns the country to normal and then my Ford dealer opens. Then I can go to my dealer to either extend the lease for a year or buy it out. The dealers are now open in Canada but only for mechanical repairs – the sales and accounting are closed.
-
Sounds good, If / when Ford credit answers I will post back

The lease on my 2016 Edge Titanium expires in April-17-2020 (my intentions are to either buy back the lease or extend for another year). My dealer, like most in my area, is closed due to Covid-19. Trying to call Ford credit the lines are busy for ever so I sent an email. I wonder if they don’t reply by April-27 what my options are.
-
Had a call last week from Ford Credit to remind me that my lease expires April-27 and I told them that I plan to buy back my lease and I asked can I do this process with another dealer? They said is better to go to the same dealer otherwise the new dealer will have to get authorization from the original dealer. Anyone knows why this authorization is required and what's about?
-
Unfortunately no one replied and I completely forgot about it.

The 2.0 is made of plastic, will do this project early summer

One more question guys When my lease expires and I buy back the lease, does the dealer get a commission from this transaction? My thinking is that he probably got his money when I first leased the car and at the end when I buy the lease he would get nothing and maybe he has no interest to do any paper work. If that’s the case, perhaps is better to arrange with Ford credit to pay them directly?
-
Wow...that’s really cool man, thanks for your time. And the Ford logo makes it look like an OEM job. The link you sent also is very useful, lots of ideas.

On my 2016 Edge Titanium 2.0L EcoBoost I’m thinking to spay paint the engine plastic cover, the one which sits at the top of the engine block and has access for the oil dip stick / oil fill. I noticed this cover is easily removable Has anyone done this? Good idea? It’s all about the looks and keeping things under the hood clean

Thanks Waldo for taking the time, I understand

I now understand akirby, thanks

How about the vehicle registration to transfer the ownership from Ford credit to my name? Does the dealer takes care of that also? I was told that I will have to go to a vehicle registration outlet to make the transfer and I may have to pay extra taxes like when you buy a used car

The lease on my 2016 Edge Titanium FWD expires April-2020 and among my options I consider to pay cash the residual value (CAD$17,000 + Tax) and keep the car. I only have 31,000km on it and I love my car which is in like new condition. I never done this before so I wonder what the procedure is. I leased the car from a Ford dealer so I assume that I can go to any Ford dealer to complete the transaction. Does it matter if I go to the same Ford dealer? Would the dealer make all required paper work to transfer ownership? Is there anything I should be aware?

That makes my original question harder to understand. So if the tires are not rotating where my TPMS system gets the readings to show them in my dash? As I said my winter tires have no TPMS sensors
-
Out of curiosity how the TPMS system works? Somehow I believe the sensors on each tire they need some kind of power to be able to send the signal. If that’s true then when the tires are removed from the car the sensors inside these tires should be dead?
-
Back in 2016 when I leased my new FWD Titanium Edge it came with the TPMS sensors installed in the 4 all season tires. My 4 winter tires do not have TPMS sensors and when I switch tires from summer to winter I store the original 4 season tires in my garage and next to my Edge (I do the change myself) So in the winter when I drive up to an approx. radius of 20 miles the TPMS system shows the "pressure" of my winter tires regardless if I stop/start the engine while out shopping. If I go further out of the 20 miles range the TPMS system shows nothing and I get a message (forget what exactly says but is related to having no air in my tires). Is this normal?

I downloaded the 2019 Edge owners manual to educate myself ahead of time and I read about it akirby, just a few new points to know, not a big deal.
-
Glad to hear the positive comments..... The negative comments I read were not related to Edge or any other manufacturer. The two I remember were both of stupid things people can do like.... person jumping out of car to jip to a store and left the car running, door open and the car rolled... or how you move the car with a dead battery and the gear selector on P Regardless, I’m an Edge man and my next one will be the 3rd since 2013
-
I’m just guessing the new rotary gear selector stated with the 2019 Edge. Do you have any good / bad comments about it. I will be looking at 2020 Edge when it arrives in Canada and I read some negative comments on the web about this new gear selector type

Thanks akirby for the heads up, guess I was too early and will wait to visit Ford in October. I see from the Titanium equipment list there are quite a few options I would like to have so it will be a difficult choice to switch to an SEL.
