  1. Here is the question, and I think is easier to find this that to find an aftermarket one. As we all know, many car manufacturers today offer bumper covers for their SUV's, I'm wondering if any will fit the Edge as well, shapewise they are not much different. I was looking the other day a GM and Lexus on a parking lot and they are thicker, the Lexus one was even covered in stainless steel, metal, very nice both, does anybody had tried this in any Edge till now....Maybe we can get one from GM, or any imported brand a nice cover far better than the one Ford offers...
  2. That is probably why the so lame sound quality, maybe it was just intended to offer those "pay per hear someone talking" shows... Now if just the freedom to say the "F" word as many times as you want during a conversation, make the dialog a "grown up mature dialog", I agree...because other than that, the content is not much different from the other...
  3. Got them, please delete this post...
  4. Going on topic again, I will see if the problem get solved somewhat with the new ordered antenna, a 16" one while I recevie it tomorrow. BTW today was not that bad, if not, then I will see what I decide for the future, for now a new radio will be installed next week, courtesy of Ford Motor Company, and for sure the satellite will be the last option, maybe I need to begin to burn CDs...LOL...
  5. Did you need to do any modification to install the H9 where the H11 were initially? Right now I have the Nightbreakers, but they are expensive as hell, almost the cost of a pair of H9's, so I'm considering to get a pair of H9 as spares....
  6. Mine does, not with a tree, but with a overpass, under the roof of the parking lot, I have to go under the building to get my parking spot, and it does cut, about the bankrupcy there are too many ways of interpret whatever is happening, to me they will go down sooner or later, read below, if this is not close to a bankrupcy not sure then what is: "...February 17, 2009 · Liberty Media Corp. will invest $530 million in Sirius XM Radio Inc., fending off a likely bankruptcy for the satellite radio company and blocking a bid by a rival, Dish Network Corp. CEO Charlie Ergen, to take control of Sirius. Sirius had warned it could file for bankruptcy as early as Tuesday if it could not successfully negotiate with its debt holders. Sirius XM Radio has 20 million subscribers, who use the service to listen to sports, music and talk, including Howard Stern's show. Ergen holds much of the batch of debt that had come due Tuesday and had offered capital infusions and a restructuring of the loans in return for control of the company. Sirius Chief Executive Mel Karmazin rejected that offer and appears to have found an alternative in time to stave off a Chapter 11 filing. Sirius shares were up 7 cents, or 69 percent, at 18 cents in morning trading. As part of the deal announced Tuesday, Liberty will provide a $280 million senior secured loan to Sirius, $250 million of which will be funded on Tuesday. Sirius will use the proceeds of the loan to repay $171.6 million of its maturing 2.5 percent convertible notes that had been due. The rest will be used for general corporate purposes. The loan from Liberty bears a 15 percent interest rate and matures in December 2012. The second phase of Liberty's investment provides another loan of $150 million to Sirius XM. Liberty has also agreed to offer to buy up to $100 million of the loans outstanding under Sirius XM's existing credit facilities. In exchange, Liberty will get 12.5 million shares of preferred stock convertible into 40 percent of Sirius' common shares, and two seats on the company's board. The company said it expects Liberty Chairman John Malone and President and Chief Executive Greg Maffei to join the Sirius board..." You can read more about that if you do a search...also consider than mainly the customers they have now are the new car owners which subscription is free, like me, that will not renew it after, and according to some statistics only the 18% does, also this 530 millions was loaned at a 15% interest, that is a huge sum of money, not sure if they were not able to survive by themselves now, how they will pay those interests, and be solvent, IMO just a miracle could save them...I will not bet on that horse sorry...the best I will do is to get a 3 or 4 month renewal period to see...
  7. Please can you ask him if they are alike regarding the thread lengh? Ford uses shorter lengh usually, so a shorter in al onger works, but not the other way around...
  8. There is not such a thing as a good set of HID for $60.00, so if you pay $60.00 for them, trust me that they are not good at all, and all you will do, at best, is just to bother the ones that came across you in front in the opposite direccion... HID lighting must be designed for the lamp and vehicle in question, there is no such a thing of an aftermarket one size fits all in HID. It has ot be designed, exclusivelly for your vehicle headlamp shape, and it is an expensive sport if properly implemented, as you have to consider many aspects of the design, and you are looking at $60.00 or more, just in good bulbs... That whopping ONE source I linked, is the best source you can contact and ask while looking for answers in automotive lighting, those guys work with several car manufacturers, even are exclusive importers of some headlights for some dedicated vehicles, mainly motorcicles, (including the Harley) and others, he is also well known in automotive circles among the engineers and designers of lighting for the automotive industry all along the country...in other words he is an authority in that field. So you can take it or leave it, that will not make you more or less wrong or right...Nor do I want you to change your mind, it was just a general information service, to educate the members that were inclined to go that way... Not saying that it can not be done, or that the results are not good, just that it will be safer for all to make someone do it properly...
  9. Have you tried it, or do you someone that had tired it???
  10. Comparing a Metallica song with BS (Britney Spears by coincidence has the same initials) is like comparing apples to oranges, the music is not even similar, and the way it was played distorted, effected, recorded, neither, if you take a quiet passage of any Metallica song for example, and compare it ot any BS song you will see they are not that far, now you take a congested passage as they one you are probably using there, and comparing it with BS, will give you that same result... Anyway I'm not saying that is perfect, I'm saying that is better than the prior one, that was indeed horrible...
  11. I'm looking in to a longer antenna, the stock is only 11 inches, I have seen a few on the street that look identical just longer, VW and Mazda uses them, along with many other cars, but wondering if this may fit, thread and length of inserts may be different... It seems that is a bad in the area and we may need to improve reception in some way, all cars are getting the same problems...and longer antenna definitely will help a little bit. I took Saturday the car to the dealer, and even while they did not find anything wrong with the radio, they will replace it, but wondering if I may have the same problem again... Satellite is not an option for me anymore, quality of sound is all about for me and it really sucks, and on top they filed for bankruptcy recently, not sure if they will provide service in the near future anymore, but honestly and with all due respect, I hope not, as the way it is now for me is a rip off, better change hands to someone who really cares about sound quality instead, even if cost is higher... Anybody had tried any longer antenna with success...
  12. That is a joke probably, but trust me that Death Magnetic is not one of the worst cases of those problems, indeed the prior album was far worst...Death Magnetic to me, sounded very good in comparison to what is made nowdays in the recording industry...But anyway if this were the case, what the compression and clipping has to do with the voice commands for paying it??? I'm assuming that something was done wrong while ripping/copying it...
  13. You are right.... but the main concern is that the problem just began a few weeks back, not sure why. Maybe as securinu had pointed out, it is just due to the transition to digital (what is killing us) And suddenly we will be out of signal, or maybe good for a while, today it was not that bad, yesterday was horrible so IMO it is osmething related with some tests, not sure though...anywya I ahve six years to decide.... For now I'm considering then as I ahve no ther option to renew the Sirius/X-M wonga sounding radio for a while, maybe six months or so...
  14. The Stubby will actually make the reception worst...it seems that I have the same problem, my satelite radio is about ot expire and I noticed than that FM is not working properly in my radio as it got noisy and sometimes the stations get completelly washed out, and unless something locally had changed dramatically I do not see why as I'm living in the same place for years...some stations ahve moved but period...I will take enxt week the car ot the dealer to see if I have the radio replaced under warranty, as thisi s not normal...
  15. The satellite radios is like this server, I was now like 10 minutes just to reply to you, and I'm on cable...LOL... I agree with you Lex, if the satellite radio were a free service, but IMO there is absolutely no reason to stream with so poor quality, with all the technology they have, and being a paid service, any lossless format we have nowadays will let them stream in a better way using the same bandwidth...the cable is another example, we now went for digital, but what, the quality is worst than while it was analog, pixelling, scrolling, color burst, you name it, all what could be bad, is....period, that is unacceptable for the customers...
  16. Trust me that you are not alone on that, I will never renew my subscription, not even with upgraded expensive audiophile speakers, I could bear it... You are not alone on that, go to any forum of Sirius or x-m, and you will hear the same complaints all the time, let alone audiophile circles, which I visit frequently, satellite radio is not even an option while talking of sound sources in the audiophile world...LOL... IMO the main source of complaints about the speakers on the Edge, came from the fellows who listen mainly the satellite radio. I can tell you that after listening a few upgraded systems, the main reason is the position of the speakers, which most of us preserve and the material to listen, and not the speakers as such, they are not that bad...there are better, of course, but not all of the ones what have been told here as upgrades, are IMO real upgrades, maybe just different flavors, and in some cases even a worst sound...remeber that sound is also influecned by education, instruction, etc...not all boomboxes we listen all they along are a sign of a good bass or a good sound I placed an expensive and refined sounding DLS sets in each door, and even while they are better the sound quality is still horrible for satellite radio, and I feel that I somewhat wasted my money on those...the order is as follows: AM - Satellite - FM - Aux (if you use a good bit-rate or lossless) - CD...
  17. Do not be so sure that to get "better tones" they remove the restrictive exhaust...Sometimes is just an add on... :shades: Man, I'm 340lb, do you really believe I will fit in an smart??? The main reason I got the Edge was space over my Taurus.... Nah, I never get so serious about cars...
  18. Well that may be right if you live in a desert island, or you drive your car inside your garage or inside your house only, and will not go out on the streets (a public environment). Just consider that the hearing is a sense that you can not choose to use or not, or turn it off, and while someone make noise, other people that do not want to hear it, will do it regardless, if they are around. In other words you are forcing other persons to be part of your decision, and to listen what they probably do not want to...And I have the feeling (correct me if I'm wrong) that this is not right...but anyway we have other noises around that we have to live with, like it or not, and as you say, that is up to you...Just that I do not see any logic behind that, and this is just strictly my very personal opinion as well...
  19. Who say that I'm not an enthusiast? :happy feet: The fact that we are here in a forum, talking about our cars, I think that is an evidence enough of that, or not? Just that I do not see a logic behind making extra more noise with no benefits at all, IMO that is not a way to express my enthusiasm at all. I see the logic behind other mods, let's say, speaker upgrades, motor parts upgrades, new wheels, tires, new rugs, waxing, etc...all these is a way of expressing something, but making extra noise, sorry I pass....
  20. And making more noise makes someone an enthusiast...? Sorry but I do not get it? Where is the relationship between polluting even more our environment with more noise, and the enthusiasm? Are you sure that this really makes the difference...???
  21. Whati s the fun in having more noise in the car, noise is a source pollution...I would gladly pay to remove the one I have stock completelly instead...
  22. At least two of those are fixable, the rattle on the back could be two reasons the rubber stops are missing or maybe the cover of the spare tire is hitting cargo management or the stupid thing they put in there, mine does it to and it is less than 4K miles, try to place something behind it. The rattle in passenger door in mine is mainly due to the buckle of the seat belt hitting the wall, try to cover it and see if this helps...if the noise if not due to that, I pass then... If middle threads on any tire are extra worn, usually that is because they are over pressured, maybe those are not designed for 35psi, or they were defective, there is no other reason for that...the vehicle does not do that... The driver seat moving is definitely a problem they have to fix, maybe the seat is a little loose from the floor, and all they have to do it to tighten it, or if it moves from the base up then definitely is screwed, need replacement/adjustment...
  23. IMO that is really sad, any engine with that misfortune of an owner should be blessed by the pope in Rome...But OTOH I do not beleive that 15K in todays synthetic oils or blends, which are said to last at least 7.5K-10K, will make an oil completelly useless, and to cause a motor to catastrophically fail to the point of need replacement, that is IMO an exageration of the dealer to say the least, unless the oil was completelly gone, and the engine was working completelly dry... As a quick comparison, I have seen some russian V8 trucks to work far more than that, with just burnt oil on them, completelly black, not even the right kind, and not even the required level (in some cases far below the minimum) and none of them broke or failed (BTW no filters at all) and those engines are far worst than those we have nowadays...copied mainly from old american models... Now it is indeed a very good excuse for the dealer to refuse the warranty, and you will be on your own. now given that the warranty is alreade voided, in your shoes, I will get a used new motor of the ones they have there in that link, and have it installed, or better open that one, and make the mechanic rebuild it, in case it is absolutelly needed, there are a lot of places that will sell you parts for it, even the same dealer...it will be a lot cheaper to get the parts that are damaged that pay 10K for a brand new engine...
  24. Got mine back on Friday, as usual all what you tell them is in vane, you need always to inspect all the work they do on your car, after three times of telling the service adviser not to replace the bulbs as they were new, (glass wedge type, purchased from Candlepower, which will not burn the socket again) the first thing I noticed while I got it back and opened the taillights, was that they reinstalled the crappy Sylvania plastic wedge bulbs, that will burn the sockets again, and on top they kept mine...So after getting home I needed to get back again there, and after complaining, finally got my bulbs back which of course, I needed to reinstall myself later on... While discussing with the guy, not only the stupid service adviser seems that never visit a Ford forum, as it seems that they had never seen this problem before, he told me that they did not burnt due to the bulbs, but due to the water (humidity) inside the tail light lens...!!!! What water man? Are you going to tell me that all those guys here, had water also in theirs? Gimme a break!!! The water, if any which is not the case, will get evaporated far before the socket and bulb will reach the burning temperature. On top, not sure what kind of work they did, or if they need or not to go under it, to run the new harness, but the passenger door black plastic jamb, the one that is close to the floor and cover the carpet and some wires there, was loose. While I inspected and try to reattach it, I noticed that they broke all three tabs that hold it to the floor, unbelievable!!!! Not sure how successful I will be, but I will be there tomorrow again and try to make them replace my door jamb, and for sure they will not have it in stock, and they may need to order it, what will take a few days more, and another trip and waste of time another day to the dealer again..Honestly guys, not sure if it is better to fix the car at my dime with a mechanic around home, or had paid for this stupid warranty and have all these problems...
  25. Lex did you use the rivets or placed screws instead? The only thing I do not like from the whole package are those rivets, as honestly I do not feel secure with them, I have seen a couple of accidetns involving rivets in the past. Of course, at the end, all come to the quality of them, and the way they were installed, and also I'm assuming also that the metal in the hood reinforcement bars is not thick enough for a good thread there anyway... Anyway mine will be in warranty for 6 more years, so the rod on the way is a problem that they eventually have to deal with, not me, honestly I have nothing to look under there, except for fluid checks once in a blue moon...
