  1. When I looked at the PDF I linked to above, it actually shows where they are supposed to hook up. Because I am old, and cynical, and I feel like if it was hard to get to that hook up point (because that Edge is high centered in a ditch full of snow, for instance) a tow operator could easily take the easy route and wrap a chain 'round an axle...which could easily damage something. What I did was print out that document, flag the page with the Edge on it, and stuff it in the glove box. I will use it to review with a tow operator if a situation ever comes up.
  2. Yes, I let it sit for a half hour while I ate dinner. It seems it needed longer than that, which is fine...as long as the expectation is set that way by Ford.
  3. OK...so just for giggles, based on some other websites I checked...I went back out and started it up again... Maps are back. Apparently it needed to contemplate its camshaft, or ponder existential life on the Edge... ...Or perhaps it just needed to get the kinks outta its konnectagazoink...
  4. Good question, I edited my post. The icon is still there, the voice commands will try to work, but I can't get the screen to come up, and on the Home screen, it just tries to load the map. Looks like it can't find the map to me.
  5. OK...so I decided to not risk a smaller USB drive and stopped and grabbed a 256 GB one on the way home. Ran the update... Weird stuff...first time I restarted the Edge, it thought it was an electric vehicle and my climate control, Nav and radio screens wouldn't display. Volume controls on the steering wheel didn't work either... Did a re-set. Everything works, but my Nav is gone... Edit...NAV is still there...the voice commands still work...but it can't find the map...
  6. Interesting...thanks! ...so I'm back to wondering why...
  7. I don't understand what you mean by "luck of the draw". It's a conscious decision on someone's part.
  8. That's a little frustrating...folks in other countries get an obvious enhancement where at least half the US would find that a useful thing to have. ...makes me wonder why? I wonder if the threaded receptacle is there, under the bumper fascia? I saw one place where that was the case on 2015+ Escapes.
  9. Thanks - that's an interesting idea, and a cool product. I crawled around on the garage floor last night (we got about another foot of snow, nothing else to do) and it looks like there's nothing down there to easily hook a strap to. I'm left wondering why they didn't do something similar to the Escape. It's ironic, but my example above, with the mouth breather driving down the middle of the road, happened to the wife of a friend. She was forced off the road because there was some Gomer in a pick-up in the center of the road coming around a corner. She drives a '14 Edge, and her husband was able to get it out with his F-250. He's a tall guy and he was in snow to his waist.
  10. I found it interesting that the instructions say we have to use a USB drive that's 32GB or greater...I was wondering why. Glad to see it'll work with a smaller one!
  11. I've pulled a Crestliner CMV 1850 for 4 seasons now with a '14 Ford Escape with the 2.0L. No problems at all. Each year has included a round trip to Canada and several trip well over an hour from my home. There is no reason at all to shy away from the 2.0L for towing as long as you pay attention to the limitations.
  12. I've had AWD and 4WD since the 70s...doesn't help when the wheels aren't touching the ground...
  13. OK. I wanted to offer specific info as to where it is, what it says and a link to a place that should continue to provide the same info in the future.
  14. By the way, in case anyone else goes down this path, this document: https://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/Ford_Linc_17RV&TTgde_r6_Nov8.pdf Tells us, on page 16, the answer to my question; The 2017 Edge Tow package (53G) includes: Trailer Wiring Harness (4-Pin) Hitch Receiver Upgraded Cooling Fans Radiator Upgrade Trailer Sway Control ...not sure why dealers can't tell me that... It looks the same for 2015, 2016 (both on page 14) and 2018 (also page 16). ...not gonna add all that for reasonable money... Useful link: https://www.fleet.ford.com/towing-guides/

  16. Sitting here in NW WI, looking at another 6+ inches of fresh snow...I started wondering, "If we put the Edge in a ditch, perhaps avoiding one of the mouth breathers around here who drive in the middle of the road, what does a tow truck, or a friendly neighbor with a pick-up attach to to get this thing out of a ditch?" On our Escape, there's a panel on the grill that pops off, and you can screw in a hook you can buy from Ford. I looked at the front of the Edge, no such critter. Nothing in the manual, either...All I get is this: ...I may be old and cynical, but I'm not convinced that tow truck operators are going to take the time to get, and read that manual before they attach something to my Edge and break off part of the bumper fascia, or bend a suspension part...or whatever. I found this: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwiwjMufhZ3aAhUkVd8KHZlaCdgQFggpMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordservicecontent.com%2Fford_content%2Fcatalog%2Fmotorcraft%2F2015-2016-Wrecker-Towing-Guide-Final.pdf&usg=AOvVaw3Y8heZaijdsHzBVHh4rdb8 ...is that what's available?
  17. You'd think it'd be something you could add, and I'd have preferred to stay with the 2.0L...but the 3.5L is what's available and I'm tired of dealing with the problem. Adding a hitch, wiring, coolers, and hoping they could switch the anti-sway on was beginning to approach $1,000, with no guarantee of success and no warranty... This was easier back in the old days...
  18. Solved the problem: Swapped if for another Edge with a few more miles, the towing package, a V6 (not my preference), Ford Certification and a new set of tires... Cost us $248.00 Sometimes thinking out of the box is the best way to go.
  19. So I went back and looked at the front of our '17 Edge...and measured some stuff...and thought about this... 30 sq. ft. is 10 ft. x 3 ft. ...or using simple sq. root...5.477' x 5.477'. No way the cooling area of a '17 Ford Edge even approaches that...on its best day... The grill is...at best...if it were a rectangle...and it's not...42" x 12" = 504 sq. inches = 3 1/2 sq. ft. There's no way that 3.5 sq. ft. grill is reaching out to almost 8.6x its size to grab air...clip out the angles at the corners, and I doubt ot's 3.0 sq. ft...might be close...but not important... What am I missing?
