  1. We picked up our Edge today. After way to much deliberation we decided on the SEL Plus, Vista, Redfire with Black Charcoal Leather and trailer tow. Odd though, it came with Michelins as oppoesed to the Continentals on the ones on the lots. Same Chrome rims though. So far 1 KM and all is well. Looking forward to putting some miles on it.
  2. I saw the class I listed under mecahnical in the Canadian brochure but when I asked it is optional. It is a mistake. The Class II was $500 and gave you the hitch, heavier battery and cooling. I went with the class II to take advantage of the battery and cooling mainly. Good value with that I think.
  3. I had a similar problem with my jeep, twice. It would just quit. It was a ground strap from the engine to the firewall that had rubbed through the harness to the fuel rail killing it intermittently and the second time was poor gas. The station I bought it from had gotten water in their tank. There were several people who ran into the same problem. Just buzzing along and poof. Then after some cranking it would light and go for a half day and then poof. Quit again. They had to replace the tank at the station. Once the water ladened fuel was out of my tank no more troubles.
  4. We don't have one yet so I have not had the opportunity to look around but I like putting them under the front seats. Keep cool, good airflow and out of site.
  5. My last 3 SUV's have had their covers sit in the garage never to be used. I find them a hastle so I take em out. With a tint it is not as easy to see in anyways so I don't worry about stuff in the back.
  6. My Monte SS has a tough time cooling when the sun shade is open also. The radiant heat coming in is pretty bad and an all black interior just adds to the problem. I think the Edge will be just fine around here. I rarely use the air anyways as I like to drive windows down anyways. The PT does that wind buffetting real bad and almost blows out your ear drums. I find that if I crack the opposite rear about 2 inches the buffetting stops and the wind calms down. I find my Explorer LTD was very cold and to much in your face - up till it quit and now needs an evaporator replaced - doh. Engine - snapped crank at balancer and I had to get a whole new motor put in, trans - reverse band snapped and needed a full rebuild, AC failed - twice, axle seals, then axles, transfer case, hall sensors, wheel bearings assy, starter, ABS, battery, heater vents, TPS, radio quit, cruise repaired and more. And this is the last two years. 150,000 km on it so it can be worse LOL. I look forward to a misadjusted vent, slight rattle in the roof and a slightly warm interior compared to my less than 100,000 miles of wrenching. Looking forward to the Edge. Coutdown is underway!
  7. I've ran tinted windows on our cars for years. Would not go withoug it now. Tint shop will be our first stop.
  8. Another thing to watch for is the side curtain air bags.
  9. You should always use a grommet. I hope you fused that or can you say "it's getting hot in here"
  10. When I first saw Chrome clad I though an aluminum wheel clad in chrome insted of polished aluminum like some other auto mfg's do. Cool. :shades: Once I found out it was a permanently glued on plastic hub cap with a chrome coating applied and designed to deliver a premium wheel "look" I was disappointed. I like the look of the wheels but I think the aluminum painted would be better bet and then send them for stripping and polishing. Non technical wording for the premium wheels - el cheapo rough cast aluminum wheel with a K-Mart special chrome like hub cap crazy glued to the middle - (tire mounting free with purchase of a set of 6) Don't know why this bothers me so much as they do look sharp and you can't notice unless I tap on them or fell the edge near the spokes. I think I'm just tired of everyone asking for more while tricking me into accepting less.
  11. Did you review the cost of those plastic covered wheels. Pretty pricy to have to replace with the real deal! Sort of like using a vinyl seating surface and saying "leather like seats" Just sort of bothers me to have a nice ride with plastic hub caps.
  12. That's a great idea! Any issues with the steering controls? Any other features that are not on the factory one? What "features" would you recommend adding? How about a kit for the edges with the components ready to plug in! How tough is the install? I also want to do the headrest DVD set up.
  13. I was just going over the edge info and I noticed that the wheels are aluminum with a plastic cover which is chrome plated and glued to the the wheel giving it a chromed appearance- is this right? Why would they not use a real polished or plated wheel? Sounds cheap and tacky to me. If that is the case then why not stop by your local discount store and grab some trick hub caps and snap em on some old wheels - not! Sort of reminds me of my dads old hub capped land yachts of yesterday! I wonder what else is faux.
  14. Any pictures of the Amethyst?
  15. That was the one downside to the sage green paint code was the lime green interior accents! Just playing with ya! It will be just fine. It looks better in real life than a picture.
  16. Here you go! edge_2008_build_dates.pdf
  17. I think it is a sharp colour. I'd say silver metalic with a hint of green tint. It is a very classy colour and not tiring. I would also think it would be easy to care for.
  18. My Explorer had a whistling noise that sounded like it was coming from the radio - turns out it is the plastic engine intake and it was normal - iritating but normal.
  19. We looked at the Acadia and I quite liked it. Good looking truck but my wife didn't like it. She thought it felt too big and non sporty. It really is not a comarable truck to the Edge. I think it is closer to the Explorer. She has no brand alegiance at all and drives what fits her. She drives a Monte SS and EX today. We looked at them all and she was just smitten with the Edge. It was exactly what she was looking for.
  20. Something that I noticed after I bought our Monte Carlo SS was the manufacturer did not paint the door bottoms, trunk and door jambs with clear coat and the colour coat was allot thinner than the rest of the car. I took it back and they said it was pretty much standard practice. I thought that was odd. I never thought to look at the edges door bottoms and jambs to see if they too were done like this. Mind you the paint on the Monte is like new today and it is a 2000. Our last Jeep Cherokee shedded it's paint after the 3rd year. Started peeling the clear fom the hood soon followed by the colour. Since it was not rusting through yet the warranty would not cover it and shortly after it went over on mileage. Eventually the entire vehicle flaked and rusted and by the 5th year it was rough. To fix it was going to cost allot as they wanted to strip all the paint and undersealer as the problem was in the metal coating. Chrysler - Jeep wouldn't step up at all and no one wanted it on trade as they knew the problem. To bad because other wise it was a great truck and very reliable. Had to sell it private pretty much as scrap as the body was going everywhere. The EX LTD which replaced it is a 98 and our original intention was to run it 4 years and trade again. Now 9 years later and believe it or not looks just like new. In fact it is in such great shape I'm having a hard time parting with it. It still drives like it did originally. My last 2 vehicles have been amazing and today still shine. I would of never dreampt 10 years ago of driving the same car for over 8 years. In the past by then the paint was shot, the interior worn and mechanically ready for the bone yard. Buy the right car today and it will do a good job for a long time. Technology is great! Quality paint can reallly make or break a vehicle. It may be a few early vehicles which were painted on test runs may not of had the paint process ironed out. Typically though these are not consumer destined vehicels mind you Ford built allot of these for internal testing. I suspect if there is a minor problem Ford will make it right. They really want the consumer to enjoy their Ford experience. After years of wallowing I just hope all this new Ford culture is enough to get back on track!
  21. Can you slide both together? If so put both at the very back as tight together as possible. Has worked for me on others.
  22. They sure do drive nice. I was impressed as was my wife. I did lots of looking on the net and the mileage seems to vary widly. Some are estatic while others not so. The review by Canadian Driver was towards 11 combined, 15 in town which I think is in line with the market. She drives a 100k to work so fuel is something she is very aware of. She has a problem being gouged at the pumps and I don't blame her. When she is there every 3rd day fueling the EX it gets a bit depressing. I was also thinking if switching to a full Synthetic motor oil would assist some once the break in period was over. Congrats on the new order. I'm sure you will really like it. I stopped by the Nitro forums last night and it is not a happy place. I'm so glad we walked away from that truck. It just looked so smart but the service that DC is giving the owners and the long list of unsolved problems is disturbing. I'm not sure how they plan on getting this one back on track. Even the auto review people have lost hope with that truck. And the ongoing problems are serious - stalling on highway, stalling on tip in, trannies not going into reverse, failed power windows, engines knocking etc. etc. If my wife had a vehicle that stalled on the highway or pulling form a stop and the manufacturer was aware of the problem, did nothing to resolve it but continued to sell they'd have that vehicle back so fast they'd not know what happened. The NHSTA is concerned with the problem and I suspect any day now you'll see it hit the fan. Good choice on the Amthyst. I was not sure when the gals were chatting about purple but once she showed us the Fusion in it I was impressed - sort of a black with some attitude. Safe travels and enjoy your new ride when it arrives!
  23. We noticed on our test drive they were not overly warm either compared to others and took a bit to get going. Not really a concern though. I find the high on my GM to hot to be usefull anyways and would actually prefer a lower high setting. If one seat is definately cooler then I'd suspect a problem.
  24. First Edge post and a bit of a long story. Well my wife wanted a new vehicle she could drive all year around and nice and sporty. She drives a Monte SS for the fair weather and a Explorer LTD for the blustery days. She fell in love with the Dodge Nitro so we looked up everything we could find and once we knew a bit about it went to town and took one out for a test ride fully expecting to order one that night. My wife drove it about 5 miles, pulled into a parking lot and looked at me very disappointed and said it drove like her old 90 Jeep Cherokee. She did not like the on center feel, the cornering nor the loose handling when travelling straight. She was convinced her 140,000 km Expolrer was twice the vehicle and no way would she trade for this POS. She was convinced it was a cheap Jeep knockoff. She went from having a Nitro screen saver, showing the brochure to her frineds and building it on-line several times to I hate it in 5 miles. Once back at the lot she noticed the front seats on this demo unit the leather had serious creases, the trim was loose and a few other things. She gave the keys back and the fella who was convinced he had a sale couldn't make a sweet enough deal. She really disliked it so we just left. So back to the drawing board. I suggested we take a day and go to town and look at all the options, new Explorer, Freestyle, Edge, MKX, Murano, Pilot, VUE, Torrent, Acadia and FJ Cruiser. Well she wiped out all the others pretty much up front. None did anything for her. We went to the Ford dealer and she was greeted by an amazing young gal who hit it off with my wife. She didn't try and sell her anything but listend intently to my wifes needs and offered up some advice. She thought the Edge would be closest to the type of vehicle she would like best or possibly and Escape. She went through the features and merits of each model in great detail highlighting the things my wife had pointed out that she liked best. They both agreed the Freestyle was too van like. Well we test drove an edge first, SEL, Vista Roof, NAV, Black Leather with the contrasting stitching and the wife was thrilled. She liked the styling, the upholstery and the stitching was real sharp. The Vista was awesome. Most of all she liked the handling. The controls all fell into her reach and rear visibility was superb without cranking your head around. She felt the Vehicle was built with her in mind and with mileage close to her Monte she was estatic - this is where the problem starts. Next she drove the Escape Limited and although she liked it's nimble attitude it just didn't offer up the excitement she got from the Edge. Upon return we reviewed the colours and she decided that the Dark Amethyst was the sharpest. We saw it on a Fusion but not on an Edge that day. Apparently they never realized how well the loaded Edge's would sell especially with the Vista's so we'll have to order one in. Since it will be a while we figured we'd give it a few days to make sure the wow didn't wear off as well as do some research into this vehicle that we otherwise would of never looked at. That brings me to this site and most every review on the net. So far it appears my wifes reaction is pretty common. I think this is goign to be a great truck for her. The one little stickler was the avg l/100km reading on the demo Edge. I assumed new, a few around the block rips and that would explain it. We were told it would be approximately the same as her Monte SS at 10.5. Possibly closer to 11. Her Explorer averages 14.5l/100 and she drives it pretty hard. This Edge appears to pork fuel faster than a kid on a cob of corn. I've since read that there are far more owners getting mileage worse than an Explorer with this new high tech vehicle that touts great fuel mileage. My wife is very fuel aware and is expecting the approx 11l/100km. If she thinks it is as poor as the EX it will be a no deal. If she gets it expecting what she was told and ends up with a fuel hog she will go ballistic. I've sent a message to Ford of Canada Thursday to see what their experience has been but have yet to hear back. Just looking for some hope on the mileage otherwise a great rig. If all works out well I'd like to get it ordered this week. I'm just concerned with the mileage. She will Flip if she downsizes to a vehicle worse on fuel. She wants it now - I'm stalling. Anyone have any thoughts.
