  1. I totally agree with your release notes comment. I've had numerous media player issues since "updating." Since my system was operating fine with V3.6, I perhaps would have made a different choice had I had read some release notes and saw nothing of benefit. Now, I have issues (previous replies to this thread) to live with until the "next" update. Fortunately, I've found a work around.
  2. I have a 2013 Edge Limited with MFS 3.8 software. At one time, the owner site listed media players supported by Sync. It would appear that the listing has either been moved or doesn't exist anymore. I'd appreciate anyone sharing a link to a list if it still exists. Since buying my Edge, I've had a Microsoft Zune plugged into one of the USB ports. I have never had much in the way of issues except since the software upgrade. I finally took all the content off and placed it on a thumbdrive and watched the issues go away. So, I'm thinking the system has problems with the player. Anyway, I'd appreciate finding out whether Ford has abandoned support for all or some players and transitioned on to phones only?
  3. To my dismay, I successfully installed 3.8 a little over a week ago on my 2013 Edge Limited. Previous version was 3.6.2 (?). Bottom line.... 3.8 has caused me more problems (slow system initiation, messed up media player interface, constant indexing, etc) than whatever it solved. The only good thing about it? My phone may pair up a little quicker. Worse thing about it? YOU CAN'T GO BACK! In a word, IMHO, 3.8 sucks.
  4. I'm narrowing the problem, I think? I'm thinking that MFS V3.8 takes longer to boot up than my previous version and if I turn the car off prior to completing the boot process, the system re-indexes the player and loses place. Last night, I filled the car with some good Colorado 1.729 gas. I had been listening to a 2 hr podcast as I pulled into the pump. When I finished, the wife and I decided to hit the ATM inside the station, so I started the car and drove directly to a parking spot in front of the station entry. Car probably wasn't running for more than 20-30 seconds, max. When we returned to the car, MFS booted up and sure enough, the system had lost its place in the podcast. This morning I repeated the sequence in the hopes of validating my suspicion. Sure, enough, it repeated. So, honestly, I'll repeat myself. There is always going to be plenty of examples where updates don't serve the greater good for all users. So, it begs the question of why can't Ford turn back an update? Why can't a dealer wipe MFS slick and reinstall with a version other than the latest. It's issues like this that turn off owners and take them away from an otherwise excellent product. This is my second Edge, the first being a 2008 SEL. Some will consider this a minor problem that should be overlooked. Well, guess what, it's all in the eyes of the beholder. I could think the same for some of the other issues, but even to them, sloppy system programming like this leads to loss customers. Lastly, while I'm on a roll, what's the feedback mechanism? Our dealers? I doubt it since when I explain an issue to them, the common response is a deer in the headlights look and not much else.
  5. Even with the tech bulletin fix applied, the ambient lighting will reset to default every time MFT does a refresh.
  6. I installed the update and the only thing I noticed initially was loss of previous and favorite navigation destination. No biggie. However..... a new issue came to pass immediately. I'm still using an old Msoft Zune with podcasts on it. About half the time with a vehicle start, MFT re-indexes the player and I lose my place in whatever podcast I was listening to. With the slow FF function, it takes an unacceptable amount of time to get to the one hour mark of a two hour podcast. Also, after the re-indexing, the system immediately starts playing whatever podcast is indexed first. Customer support suggested I master reset both MFT and do a power off/on reset of the media player. Didn't seem to make any difference. If I had known what was "improved" about 3.8, I would have left the system as is, since you can't go back.
  7. I would hardly call it fast forward. With the latest software update, Touch frequently loses place in a podcast and re-indexes. Then, it starts playing the first podcast in the index. When I migrate to the one I was listening to previously, the system will only slew forward at a snails pace, i.e. approx 10 seconds / second of holding the FF down. If you are an hour into a two hour podcast, believe me, it takes a long time to get to the left off spot. This software update IMHO was a step backward. And..... you can't return to a previous version. According to Ford costumer service, even the dealer can't return the system to a previous version.
  8. I posted a similar issue this morning in this forum section. I regret not having read this before doing so. Definitely, my bad. My 2013 Limited dash rattle sounds like a loose washer? Like others, it comes and goes. At the 10K oil change, I mentioned it but the dealer was unable to duplicate. My second service at about 19K, I didn't mention it (wasn't doing it at that particular moment). I'd love some consistency but it's not happening.
  9. First of all, yes, I know I'm probably chasing a ghost and may do more harm than good. That said..... my 2013 Limited has an intermittent annoying "washer rattling" like noise coming from under the dash. It may be coming from the ductwork? Even though, the ductwork may be just a sound tube. Gone are the days when we could lay on our back and look up to see practically everything. Has anyone any experience with selective (non-destructive please) removal of components to get to the area directly in front of the driver? I'm not seeing anything obvious, which tells me that there's first piece that has to come out to expose screws or hidden tabs? Any help will be appreciated.

  11. The tissue holder on my 2013 is molded into the underside of the console cover as described by Smitty. It's a cavity that you can fit the small, personal signed tissue package into. It is NOT a separate attachable/removable piece.
  12. The information is contained in your Edge Owner's Guide. Scheduled service info starts on page 360, if you have the 4th revision. Go to this web page and you can get a pdf. https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/owner-manuals-search-results.html
  13. I'm continually amazed with people who think MFT is a complicated overly redundant system. I went from a 2008 SEL to a 2013 Limited. To make life even more potentially challenging is that I have a Microsoft Zune for podcasts plugged into one of the USB receptacles. The day I accepted the car, I did a master reset on the Sony system to clear (?) out the bugs. The only issue I have is the inability of the phone to understand the majority of my directions. Other than that, no issues plus I have problems working the system. :^)
  14. I had a similar issue with a 2008 that drove me nuts for 6 months and, because the car was still under warranty, I passed the pain onto the dealer with frequent visits. Most of the time, they could not duplicate the symptoms therefore without a diagnostic to evaluate, nothing was found. A couple times, I experienced the jerking only minutes after leaving the dealer. Finally, during an extended test drive, the tech captured the problem. It was a coil on one of the cylinders that was failing. I and the dealer were mainly looking at transmission issues, but it was engine electrical all along. The dealer service department freely admitted that there was enough things that could cause this that they were reluctant to chase the symptom without a diagnostic capture. Good luck.
  15. Do you have Sync? Does the service guy see the problem when he interrogates the computer? Surely, even if he doesn't see the cause, he should be able to see the shutdown? I was told by my local Ford dealer that multiple computer devices are hand shaking all the time. Those same computers (or one of them anyway) maintain a history so unless it's on a loop, something has to be there? Bottom line, I'd turn into a royal PITA until this is resolved. At the least, have the dealer reflash the PCU. If that doesn't do anything, i.e. it happens again, They should look for an intermittent ground or open in the electrical side. LIke you said, you don't want to wait for a total failure especially with 250,000 lbs and a big grill in your rear view mirror. Be in their face!
  16. Can't speak to the PTU issue, but Sync will periodically go into a maint/refresh mode. Have you called the myfordsync number? They can provide some quick answers or will refer you to your dealer. They may suggest reloading the software.
  17. The easiest fix is to find a switched adapter or wire a switch interrupting the hot wire to the 12vdc power points.
  18. Don't bet on it, twintornados! If the QNX is hardware specific (and my bet is that it is), I seriously doubt that it will be backwards compatible to MFT equipped vehicles unless Ford pays for it. Think about the odds of that. My bet is that all future software upgrades for MFT will be minor maintenance releases. Consequently, get used to the SYNC console logo as long as you own that MKX. Then again, I'd be pleased to be proven wrong. :^)
  19. I was told today by Ford Sync tech support that an update is scheduled for "some" time this year. That's about as specific as he would get.
  20. My suspicion is with your 12v charger rather than the car. Sounds like the adapter may be less than 5w (what the phone needs) and not 10w, which any iPad after 2nd generation needs. Did you try a different charger?
  21. I had a 2008 Edge before buying a 2013. For the first generation, even though I never bought one, the preferred rear bumper protector was the Bushwacker model 114001 designed for the Scion. Does anyone know if this will also fit a 2011/12/13/14 model? Would also like to see a picture if anyone has it installed. Thx.
  22. You've probably figured out by now that Ford dropped support for the Zunes. There's a rather lengthy thread started in Dec '13 of another user's similar woes.
  23. I have a 2008 Edge SEL. Occasionally, once or twice a month maximum, when I turn the key to start the engine, the engine turns over continuously without starting. If I simply leave the key in the 'on' position, it will continue indefinitely. I believe that's a function of the PCM? If I then turn the key off and re-attempt, it starts right up and all is good. The second time has always resulted in a normal start. My understanding is that there is a TSB out for certain Fusions with the same issue? Any thoughts of what's going on would be appreciated.
