The price of the Ford RDU fluid at the dealer is ridiculous. I thought the ULV was bad til I bought the RDU fluid...
-
Agreed. I cleaned it up all with brake cleaner and I will run it around for a couple days. I could also add dye if needed.

During the last few oil changes, I noticed a slight drip running off the lowest point of the PTU. A bit difficult to trace, but quite sure it's not coming from the axle output seal. Had a closer look yesterday, looks like maybe it is the sensor in the bottom of the PTU. Not sure if that is a speed or temp sensor, but I did have a similar sensor fail and puke pressurized trans fluid last year. It was part of the auto stop/start system. Anyone have experience with PTU leaks?
-
Ok thanks guys. Found similar info on the B.I.T.O.G. site. I will stick with the ULV.
-
Any transmission guys here know if there is any advantage to switching from ULV to LV trans fluid? My understanding is that the super thin ULV is part of the effort to reduce parasitic drivetrain losses to boost fuel economy. Not necessarily the best for wear or longevity. I'm thinking of switching unless there is a smart transmission guy that knows otherwise.

Transmission Flush, or simple drain and fill?
Biker replied to slides's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Have you had the most recent transmission software installed? Sometimes that helps. Personally, I would do drain and fill only. There are other things that can cause shifting issues, so a good diagnostic might also be useful. The ecm relies on a number of engine and drivetrain sensors to determine shift points, harshness etc.- 93 replies

- transmission drain and fill
- transmission flush

HA! It sure is a fun machine. I still have a bit of runway yet, so by the time I check out, it may have an aluminum 6.0 LS, coil overs and whatever other goodies I can dream up.

I hear ya. Well, your post has me convinced that it as something to do with EGR too. Maybe even MAP or TPS. It is definitely some sensor contributing to engine management at low part throttle. I dont know much about newer systems, but I was doing my apprenticeship when GM started with efi, and EGR only came into play once the engine was at operating temp and in closed loop. I like the vehicle too. Mine is over 160,000 kms now and no torque convertor issues. At this point, if it goes, I will replace the whole trans myself rather than lose money trading it in for something with similar problems. I'm done throwing money at Ford Credit. My kids will get this car in my will!

Transmission Flush, or simple drain and fill?

Good call on the hose clamp. I did the full procedure heating up to operating temp and using the level plug. A dealership did the last drain and fill and I didn't entirely trust how they did the fill. -
So far so good. If it does come back, it could be a weak battery issue.
-
Thanks very much Omar! I will try it today and update later.

I have not used Forscan yet, but one thing I've found with mine is that the "tugging" only occurs on a damp, cool day, on a cold start. Once everything is up to operating temp, the condition quits. It was far worse before replacing the dpfe. I have not tried to replace the egr itself yet, but I may do that next.

My 2019 Titanium has 2 distinctly different seatbelt alarms. One is a gentle, tolerable chime that does the job. The other is a sharper, more urgent ding that is less tolerable. I've tried to figure out if there are specific triggers, but it just seems to be random as to which alarm I will get. Thanks for any insight.

Nice to see people doing these kinds of mods and upgrades to new vehicles.

It's actually very cool. I went from driving disposal used 80's and 90's 500 dollar bombs as personal vehicles for most of my life to this 2019 edge and I cant say enough good about it. Comfy, handles great, roomy, runs like a champ and all the gadgets and conveniences work well. Turns out to be easy to work on as well. You will like the adaptive cruise lane centering. As someone who was happy with crank windows and manual steering, I cant believe how well integrated and intuitive all the features are.
-
Ah yes..,turn signal stalk. Thanks. I 100% agree, I love the lane centering with the adaptive cruise. Works very well. I'm sure I will draw fire from the safety zealots, but I found out by mistake that if I hang my metal hand gripper off one spoke of the steering wheel, it is enough weight to simulate driver input and will happily steer itself along for hours. (I drive alot for work).
-
Good work, let us know. I have a 2019 and I was confused as to why I had lane keep as part of the cruise control and also an option for it as a button on the end of the wiper stalk, Still dont know why, but I like the vehicle.

Nice work.

If the RDU fluid is the same as my 2019, you may want to sit down before you see the price. Thankfully it doesn't take much. It was different than the PTU fluid for my 2019.

Update, echoing what I stated above. After a whole winter of below freezing temps, we had a day of above freezing on Tuesday. High humidity, lots of water on the streets. Edge immediately started bucking at low speed, very light throttle input. Horrible. Push on the gas a bit harder, it goes away. Once fully warmed and presumably dried up under hood, it went away. Next day, dry and below freezing, drove perfectly. Definitely an unhappy sensor that is affected by dampness.
-
Thanks, man! The egr is definitely part of the puzzle for mine. Or maybe a separate puzzle. Anyways, I do love the vehicle, I have no desire to dump it. I've kept up the maintenance of everything on it, and I'm not worried for the reliability of it. So far the driveability issue has only resurfaced on a day when the ambient temp took a big swing from freezing to warm with lots of moisture/humidity. Even then, as soon as engine heat dried things up under hood, the condition went away. So, I have to believe that it is some aspect of the engine management. Map sensor, TPS, CTS, IAT etc. Something is getting and giving bad info without setting a DTC. If it was a transmission hardware issue, it wouldn't appear and disappear as it does now. I will figure it out. I like the thing enough that if at some point it needs a transmission or TC or both, I will buy new ones and install myself.
-
There are at least 2 different issues going on. For some, the driveability, bucking etc may wel be the transmission and/or torque converter. For others, this definitely an engine management issue. With my 2019, I tried all the transmission stuff I could, no change. I then changed an egr sensor that fixed it. Until....last week we had a drastic swing in weather from very cold to above freezing, with very high humidity. The low speed bucking and surging was almost unbearable. It's almost like theres no boost or no tps signal in a certain range. Push the throttle a bit more and it launches. Under load its fine. Part throttle, low speed is awful. Once it heated up and likely dried out the offending sensor, all was well.

Best GTDI oil to use and when to change?
Biker replied to DrivingofftheEdge's topic in 2.0L EcoBoost
100% agree. I put lots of miles on per month, my 2019 is at almost 100,000 miles now. I change at 5000 miles or less, use synthetic and use a factory filter. Plugs are very clean, combustion chambers are clean (looked with a small camera), and performance is great. Doesnt burn oil (or coolant). Leaving any oil in for 8, 10, 12 thousand miles is asking for trouble. Synthetic or not, no oil can magically deal with fuel dilution and the amount of dirt and combustion by-products that a hard working little turbo engine produces. Saving 50 bucks per change does not pay for an early failed engine.
