  1. You might be applying logic to a situation that is not guided by logic. I work for a state government. I know all about illogical processes! :-)
  2. It's technically a whole new engine. The design was based off the 3.0L Vulcan. But in my opinion, there is enough substantial changes you can say it's a new engine. It's not just a bored/stroked 3.0 and throw VVT/VCT for good measure. The 3.5 is also redesigned such that it will be bumped up to a 3.7L version for the Lincoln's, at least short term. I think the MKS is what's getting the 3.7 first. That you could say isn't really a whole new engine...
  3. Any of the Oakville people at liberty to discuss this? http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2006-1..._x.htm?csp=N008 Off the record of course. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge. :yup:
  4. Well, if that's the case, I hope one of those aftermarket guys that did up the Edge put some bigger brakes on that will work with 18's. If so, I might be swapping out calipers and rotors...
  5. I did a little more digging. Just on comparing the Edge to other Fords. I found an article about the CVPI and braking. This car comes in at almost exactly the same weight as the Edge when loaded with the usual law enforcement equipment. The site I did was comparing police packages. The Crown Vic came in at 148 feet braking from 60-0. So that isn't far off the 152 you mentioned. This test really heated the brakes up too. So I'm not sure if the 152 was hot brakes or cool brakes. Comparing to and Explorer (more SUV like) the Explorer was one of the best braking out of all SUV's. The 2wd 4.0 liter version is 4400 lbs. Very close to the Edge. That did 142ft, with cold brakes. They didn't mention hot brakes though. So all in all, the braking is about normal for that sized a vehicle. Do I wish it was better? Of course. But out of all the reviews, no one except this review mentioned the braking distance. And none of the other reviews didn't like the brakes. If it was mentioned at all, the response was that it was basically adaquate. So I'm not going to worry about it. It won't be any worse than my 92 Grand Marquis or my 03 SCrew.
  6. I did a bunch of searching on the web, and this review is the only mention of braking distance at all. That includes the MKX. All I can say is wait until you get more information from other places before concluding the brakes suck. If I had to guess, the MKX should be right between a 500 and an Explorer as far as braking goes. If anything, closer to the Explorer because it's weight is closer. Keep in mind, this vehicle has a lot more weight than a Fusion or 500. Just because it's based on the Fusion framework, don't expect the same performance.
  7. I've seen two different MKX commercials probably half dozen times. I remember one I think they were surfing. The other I caught the tail end and just once. It looked like they went to a farmers market. Had veggies and some fish in the back seat. It smelled funny so they opened the Vista roof... BTW, I have cable. Mostly watch Discovery and History Channel...
  8. Personally, I don't really care if they aren't in seperate locations. First off, I'm freakin deaf. And deaf in the high tones. So anything they have will be good enough. Just the fact that they have them vs a single cone is good enough for me. Second, my days of installing custom stereos are over. I just don't care to futz with that stuff any more. Factory stereos have gotten good enough that I don't feel the need or want anymore. So I think I will be quite pleased with the factory stereo. Or at least the Audiophile one...
  9. They will be released two days after you decide to buy a different car, and wish you would have waited for the Edge.
  10. There was an online PDF recently posted here. I think it was a 14 page "dealer" brochure on the Edge. On Page 8, this is what it had to say: Maximize your listening enjoyment with the latest in audio technology. Edge’s available Audiophile® Sound System features a 6-disc in-dash CD changer with 9 speakers in 5 locations: 4 two-way speakers are mounted in the doors, and an 8" subwoofer and 190-watt amplifier are mounted in the back to round out your sonic experience.
  11. I have a set of Nifty's Catch-All floor mats in my F150 Super Crew truck. I really like them. I forget the model exactly, but they are a carpeted look to them. But they have a harder mat material underneath. They have the lip on the outer edge to contain liquids. My son spilled a full 20oz pop on the rear mat. It contained it all if it. I just slid the mat out and dumped it on the ground. Hosed it off when we got home. So anyway, I'm really happy with these mats. So I emailed Lund (owners of Nifty) to see if they'll be making these mats for the Edge. I got a response I'll copy below. But I'm hoping they make these mats plus maybe a mat for the back end too. Sounds like they will. So I'm holding off getting the Ford "weather" mats and wait for these. So if you're interested too, email them. Maybe we'll generate enough requests they'll follow up quickly on production. http://www.lundinternational.com/contact_us.aspx?b=nifty __________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for your inquiry and interest in our product. We do have plans on making floor mats for this new vehicle. I don't have a release date or a ship date at this time for them to be available to customers. Please check back with us in the next couple of months for some more updates. Thank you. Jennifer Larsen Customer Service Lund International, Inc. 12. I don't think Ford was originally going to do headrest entertainment. But it was an option listed on the early "Build and Price" as a possible future option. My guess is that so many asked for it, they decided to make it an option. I had checked that option myself, as well as BlueTooth. Now that I'm ordering and Edge, I'm not actually getting the DVD headrest though. Too expensive and won't use it enough. Hey! I didn't have one when I was young, why should my kid?? LOL! That's my story and I'm sticking too it. On a side note, anyone else notice on that same brochure, they had listed something like "Heavy duty weather" floor matts? It said in addition to the carpeted ones. I'm asking my dealer about this one. I'm hoping they are like my Catch-All's I put in my truck. Those are nice color matched, but tough large matts. They'll hold a full can of pop and not overspill.
  13. http://autos.msn.com/research/userreviews/...x?modelid=12235 How can people review vehicles that aren't even released?? Sounds like either Ford haters or someone who's picked the wrong vehicle to review...
  14. It's a dealer installed option. Show the dealer page 9 of this if he seems dumbfounded... http://www.fordvehicles.com/assets/pdf/200...e%20cat_NAV.pdf
  15. There was a strike going on up there. That may have slowed things down. And I do believe the Vista Roof will slow down the lead time. I remember reading that somewhere. Because of dealer allocation, mine won't be ordered until late November. The dealer said mid to late January is the likely delivery.
  16. From my Firefox, I did a right click and "save link as" with no issues. That way it's downloaded to my local machine and played. Not that I'd want to actually keep any videos of Jill. :-)
  17. Any one notice they reviewer stated they drove a fully loaded Edge. With "monster moonroof" and reard DVD entertainment? Page 3. Didn't think that was possible. At least by the Ford config website...
  18. In one of those videos, they stated 18/25 for mileage...
  19. I kind of doubt there will be much torque steer. The 3.0L Fusions and 500's have had very little. One review of the AWD Milan said there was absolutley none. As far as the CVT goes, I think with the new 6F, Ford just decided too many transmissions available for the V6's. In the 500, the Asin 6 speed got a bit better gas mileage. And now with the 6F, things should be even better. So I think it was more of a matter of standardizing on the 6F. But I do hope that Ford does keep developing the CVT. From a few people I talked to that have it, they love the smoothness.
  20. Well, what ever the hell it is, I have the top end one with DVD nav on order. I'm hoping it's a banging system. :yup:
  21. Yep, my dealer said his first two won't be in until "about" first week of December. So I'd put my money on Thanksgiving time the ads will start showing up.
  22. My local Ford dealer already has two on order. And that's his allocation for now. Won't be able to order any more until November. Well, technically they can, but the order won't be pulled for production until end of Novemeber. The two they already have coming I'm not interested in. One stripped down, the other is a fully loaded AWD. Those won't be in until December sometime. Or at least that's what they're being told now. I'm on the list to test drive one. But if I didn't order now, I wouldn't be able to again until January-ish. According to allocations anyway. Don't know how true it all is. So that's why I just decided to order one up now and get in line. But I put a FWD SEL loaded on paper. Blazing Copper, Camel Interior. Basically fully loaded. Panoramic roof, but 17" painted wheels. Didn't want 18's. So if all goes well, I'll have me a birthday present in January! :-)
  23. I think these Yutz's just aren't looking at the market spot the Edge is trying to fill. It's NOT a smaller "Wagon" like a Focus, or say even a Caliber. It's not trying to replace the Explorer in people hauling size. It's trying to fit that spot in between the two. Something not totally huge, but yet very functional. It's like bashing the Corvette because it has not truck space or rear leg room. Well DUH, dipshits...
  24. And if the Edge was a 3 row, then MT would be bashing Ford because they have no "mid-sized" CUV. I agree with the weight. But that's what you get when you start adding all the "comfort" and saftey options the Edge has. You can't just start throwing on side air bags and assume it won't weigh more. I'm willing to bet the Edge will come in with full five star all the way around. If I had to sacrifice a few pounds for that, I'm fine. Besides, 265HP is more than enough for me. Hell, my SuperCrew is 265HP and 1100lbs HEAVIER yet. Personally, I only like one auto mag review journalist. Can't remember the spelling of his name. Ceasar Csabe? or something like that. Odd name. Cool guy. Now if he reviews the Edge, I'll listen. Everyone else I take with a grain of salt...
  25. Currently, we drive a 92 Grand Marquis and a 2003 Super Crew, along with two motorcycles. It's come time to replace the aging GM that has 110k miles on it. What we like in a car is size, comfort, saftey, and versatility. The Edge fits the bill perfectly. We didn't want a mini-van, don't need it with only 1 kid (not changing). Didn't want a Focus or Focus Wagon, just too small interior for our tastes. Sat the wife in a Fusion (she's primary driver of the new car). Too small for her tastes. Sat in a 500. Liked the room and the upright seating. Since the Edge will have this same basic upright seating, I think it'll work. HP is more than we truely need. I wish the gas mileage did turn out better. But after considering everything, we decided we just don't put enough miles on our vehicles in a year to make mileage that big of an issue. Style, comfort, versatilty, saftey were all there and that's what we want. I had planned on ordering an Edge today. I'm dissapointed in hearing about the strike now. I was hoping to get one by December, but it doesn't sound like that's happening. Plus the dealer I spoke to said they won't be getting their first Edge until late November at the earliest. Second one probably not until after the 1st of the year. But I thik I'll talk to the wife and probably order one up anway. BTW, we like the Blazing Copper SEL. FWD with Vista Roof and all the options, except the 18" wheels. I think we're leaving those at 18"s.
