  1. Another option would be to get the leather ones and take them to an upholstry shop and have them make new covers for them in the cloth material. Most automotive upholstry shops have access to the factory match materials (if not the actual factory material).
  2. No when i replaced my radio i didnt care about the sync so i didnt buy the harness. I have the ipod cable for my new radio and the bluetooth piece so i didnt care about it. Unless you buy a radio that has an aux input the ipod/aux plug part of sync will not get sound to the radio. you need that for that harness to work. The display on the afs-01 shows the phone number of the caller, any other sync info (ipod stuff). If you can get your hands on the older sony (not the xplode series) say like year 2000 or so then they made good equipment. The xplode series is "pawn shop" "walmart" entry level.
  3. The factory one can not do these extra features. You need a an aftermarket one that has extra channels on it. One thing some will do is if you dont have the auto lift rear hatch you can use the "trunk release" output of the rremote start (if it has one) and find the wire that turns on the rear defrost and and hook it up this way.
  4. Yes it can be done. You will need the "sync" retention harness. It cost about 150-200 and can be found online.
  5. Sounds to me like another accessory wire is all that needs to be hooked up. Thats the downfall to going to a dealership and getting the "ford" one they wont always add another relay if needed to energize all the ignition wires in this problem. They say "it cant be done unless you buy this one". Typical dealership quotes. I will guarantee that it can be done with the unit that is in there and they are just trying to get you to upgrade. It may take more than the "so-called tech" just reading a wire guide book from ford and actually using a multi-meter.
  6. I will try and take some pics. The subs you cant see because i didnt want the visible so i used a metal grill material (expanded sheet metal) over each sub fastened to a 1/2" mdf. I have it supported enough that i have had then entire cargo area full with luguage and no problems at all. The boxes were roughly the shape of the cargo storage containers. I did a fiberglass bottom to contour to the bottom of the car. the rest was 3/4" mdf. I made 2 seperate boxes for each side.I figured there they are just shy of 1 cubic foot of airspace so i used some polyfill in each box also. I have a center piece above the spare that is hinged in place so i have full access to the spare. I have the amp mounted to the bottom of this piece . Keep in mid this amp is like 15-18" long. Amp is a crossfire vr804 its like a 100 x 4, however i am using the rear channels to the subs bridged its like 400 or so. The front channel is running diamond d6 components, stock rears off of deck power. a kenwood kvt-512 head unit. bmitchell, unfortunately it is taking up space in the garage but i dont want to get rid of it. i will put them back in when i get rid of it. Mine came with all the cargo stuff, the net, those plastic bins, and the rubber liner.
  7. bmithchell, i actually did your first thought about 5 months ago. I took out he two storage compartments around the spare, I lifted the floor of the trunk up about 2" and i have 2 JL 12w3 mounted there. i built the boxes out of mdf and fiberglass. I still have full access to the spare.
  8. The stock 22" on the sports ... If something was to happen to my sport wheels i would go with a black wheel with a chrome or machined lip.
  9. Look into this, JL Audio Stealth box. its cheaper and a 10" woofer. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealth...php?fit_id=1606
  10. If you want to keep both you may want to look into the sync retention harness. This harness makes both the aux plug and usb still work. It them has an output (rca style) for you to plug into the aux input on the pioneer. They are expensive, but then you also still have the sync functions
  11. It doesnt say anything about the sat radio so i dont think so. also with the steering wheel controls it says its supported, but you may need an additional adaptor from another 3rd party
  12. If you really want a custom piece you can look into water transfer. its not a "sticker" like others.
  13. i believe that you will need to wire it in. It may not work with the current radio you have
  14. I have been told that when the factory radio reaches a certain volume the bass response starts to cut off. This meaning if you go off of the factory it could have an effect on how well the sub will preform. There are retention harnesses for sync. They are on the spendy side about $150-200.
  15. There is a sync retention harness if you really want to keep it. I would recommend to run a set of RCA's to the stealthbox. the signal will be alot better
  16. Here is the SYNC retension piece http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14328_...ampaign=froogle They also make one that doesnt come with the screen for a little cheaper. It all depends on the type of sound you are after. I personally have torn all the factory audio out except for the rear speakers. I have a set of 6.5" diamond components in the front. a crossfire 804 (front going to components, rear channels bridged to subs). for subs i have 2 JL audio 12W3. In a custom built box so you cant even tell they are in there. Head unit is a kenwood flip up unit kvt-512. Back in the day (like 10 years ago) sony had nice car audio decks. but once they came out with the xplode series they went down hill. They are a budget system.
  17. look into the metra harness XSVI-5520-NAV this harness provides you will all the necessary connections for a nav deck (speed sense, reverse, parking break). http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14512_...CFQEhDQodMSSwJw Otherwise you can use the metra 70-5520 but then you will ahve to serch for all those wires in the vehicle. Keep in mind if you have sync or steering wheel controls you will loose them unless you buy the adaptors for that also.
  18. Are you looking to replace just the speakers or the head unit also? If just speakers then no. if the head unit also you will need to look into the sync retension harness. they tend to cost like $200 just for the harness. Did your friend have a factory radio going to the xplode equipment? If you leave your factory head in it may not sound like your friends. Audio engineers (at ford or who makes the radios) set up the factory heads to sound the best possible with the factory speakers. My findings usually with replacing just the speakers is you will loose a little low end (bass) sound from then.
  19. How did you hook the relay up? technically you dont need a relay all you need to do is ground the lt green (brake) wire.
  20. I just replaced mine with my equipment i had in my 06 explorer. It consists of a kenwood dvd touch screen radio, diamond seperates (front doors), rear speaks i left stock. 2 -12" woofers, 4-channel amp to run the fronts and subs. . I fit 2-12" woofers in without any large box. If you look in form the outside you cant even tell its in there. I took out the plastic cargo carrier around the spare, and built 2 custom fiberglass boxes that form around the spare tire. I have a hinged flip cover to get the spare out. the amp is mounted to the bottom of this cover. This is what is called a "false floor" So basically i lifted the height of the floor 2" to make all this happen. It is also built to have item placed on it. I have had over 300lbs of lugauge on it.
  21. the kenwood unit does have the wire, which steering wheel control unit do you use?
  22. with that harness you will loose any steering wheel controls if you have them. any aux input. The only way to keep the aux working anyways is to get a radio that comes with an aux input. There are "retention" harness that will keep the aux, but costs alot more (over $100). I used that harness and just put a kenwood touch screen dvd in last week and i have all radio functions (keeps the radio on until i open the door). but i did loose all steering controls, and sync which i am fine with.
  23. i would look at the tuner in the back, most of the time the antenna plug is the same as the aftermarket ones. so all you may need is that extension cable, or just place your new tuber in rear where the factory one is.
  24. Correction, It CAN be done. Metra make a piece that will retain it. Its not cheap, but can be done. Nice thing with this harness is, if you do a aftermarket navagation radio all the wires you will need for that radio (reverse sense, speed sense) will be incorporated in this harness. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14328_...ss+AFSI-01.html
