  1. If your looking for just the ipod and bluetooth, just buy an aftermarket radio with those built in. You can get many different aftermarket radios with dvd and gps with bluetooth and ipod control for starting about 500 To add sync to a vehicle without it there is a lot to do. first off the sync module itself, the steering wheel controls, then you will need the clock spring, then the installation for all, the mic,... lots of misc junk too. the factory radio that has sync functions in it.
  2. No there isnt one behind the radio. Its canbus controlled for the factory. Make sure they send you the antenna adaptor also.
  3. Yeah i prefer the Bracketron mounts Oh yeah that because i design them... www.bracketron.com
  4. Since that radio doesnt have any navagation on it you can go with the basic metra harness part number 70-5520. You could be able to get this at your local best buy. You will also need the dash kit and the antenna adaptor also. The dash kit is needed since that aftermarket is still a little undersized from the factory. I did the kvt-512 and that is the harness that i used. And mine still stays on until i open the door. I have an 09 egde sport for reference. If you want to be able to do the dimmer with the existing harness you will need one of the expensive harnesses that include the navagation wires. In this vehicle at the radio the dimmer and those are can-bus. However you can go to the parking light circuit and get the wire there to do the same thing. all that will happen with an aftermarket radio is dim once you turn the lights on. you can not adjust the fade like the factory. If you look for the parking light wire my sources call it out as a violet/white wire int he drivers kick panel. This wire will go from 0 to 12 volt when you turn on the radio. USE A DMM WHILE TESTING THIS (there may be many wires of this color in that area).
  5. Ahh the joys of my autopage.... up to 1 mile range, turns on each heated seat independently (and adjusts the level too), turns on the rear defrost, opens the auto lift hatch... all of these are done frm the remote.
  6. THis will NOT void the warranty there is a law stating this (magnusson-moss act). They will tell you this to get the business. If a DIRECT problem occurs due to the remote start then thwy may not cover it. There is no difference between a ford tech installing it and yourself besides that he may know the vehicle more. I have been in the professional installation business for over 10 years. As soon as the dealership throws the warranty thing out there, they alwasy get shot down when i would send a customer in there with the act printed out. IMO go aftermarket. You will be much happier with the range. I have heard of people not getting any range at all with the factory style ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act
  7. Osiris1975: depending on the radio you get, it may come with bluetooth and ipod/usb connections. I would figure out a radio and see if it has those. if it does there is another harness out there that will give you the nav wires for $70.00. Then you can add the wheel controls to this. Only downfall to this i can see is that then the bluetooth is controlled through the radio so that button on the wheel will not work. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12926_Axxess+XSVI-5520.html?gclid=CNjHjeea1p8CFRTyDAodtAtfdg
  8. Yes you can keep the factory head. I would look into a a produce like a JL audio Cleansweep, the rockford 360. They are summins devices. If you go right out of the radio with a line out converter. the sounds will change on you. The bass in these vehicles cuts off and stays lower. I understand you want to keep your sync functions, but you can add an aftermarket with nav and dvd for about 400-500 that include the sync functions (ipod and phone).
  9. Whats the return policy on it? They may return it, but keep the installation money. Aftermarket is the only way to go. The unit i have has up to 1mile range (give or take depending on where you are, and the type of structure you are in). I was about 4-5 blocks away and the truck was parked on the 6 floor of a enclosed ramp and i got confirmation. Its a 2-way unit.
  10. ^^ I have the same on my 09 sport. I had to go with the top of the line autopage alarm/remote start. I did this so i can turn on and off and adjust the level of each seat independently. I can also turn on the rear defrost, and also opperate the power lift gate. To do all of these you need to have the extra channels. Most alarms out there will only have 1 extra and that will do a trunk release usually (or another function if you hook it up to that instead). The unit i have goes from 350-400 installed, that is without the extra add-ons (seats, rear defront, trunk). Also the bypass is another 50-100 installed (for the chip in the key). I would say for this set up at a shop you may be looking at 500-600 (give or take).
  11. Also look into a locksmith. A good one will have the hand held programmer to do it also. Sometimes they are cheaper and they may come to you (or give you a discount since you can still go to them). I have dont it this way before.
  12. I dont think so. Fords are a sensor that get banded to the center of the wheel.
  13. Its the PAC MS-FRD1 msrp is 249.95 http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=919&CategoryID=26
  14. Thats because the old one didnt have the wiring inplace. If the old wheel didnt have the readio controls the new one with them will not work. To get those to work you will need to look into replacing the clovkspring also and any harness associated with the new controls.
  15. Just to for-warn you the one that gets installed at a dealership is actually made by an aftermarket company. They just tell you the electrical bs and warranty crap to get you to buy theirs and they tron in a 36000 x 36 month warranty. They use the same wiring, same connections as an aftermarket. There is a law against dealerships not giving warranty work if its not directly related to the aftermarket remote start. Its the magnusson/moss act. Not to mention an aftermarket one will give you lots more range (even over fords 2-way unit), extra channels to add different functions (mine personally can opperate both heated seats independently, rear defrost, and hatch release. None of the ford ones will do all that. with up to 1 mile of range).
  16. I was impressed with them. I had an 06 explorer and i have to say it is very comparable to how that handled. I have to agree with the sno being packed in and throwing the balance off though. good thing my snow brush fits through it and can clean them.
  17. Take a look on getting the aftermarket modules that you control right through the factory radio. more than likely the harness from the radio to the sat tuner will bt taped together with the main harness that runs along the side of the car. IMO its alot easier to do the aftermarket route. look here http://www.pac-audio.com/default.aspx This is just one of the many companies that make these
  18. Glad to hear you got it installed. Just for reference you saved the hassle of any connections, yes you are correct on the breaking strands of wire (which in the Edge are tiny wires also). However placing a connector in-line can also cause impedience drops also. As we know 99% of "goods" in the world are made in China. 1 thing can come in 10 varriations from there, you never know how clips and wires are from there. What did you use for the bypass of the PATS? Was it the factory piece? What is your thoughs on this if it was, how was the install of it?
  19. For reference, with a remote start you DONT need to cut any wires in the entire install. You simply tap into the ignition wires same way as you did for your locks. a good install you should be able to look under the dash and not see one trace of anyhing being installed (besides an antenna on the wimdow). NOT all Experts are in it to make a quick buck. In my 12 years of service in that industry i can count on 1 hand and have fingers left over for how many times something either broke or got scratched. At my shop (personal owned) we would NOT hide anything from the customer. If a scratched happened we would either replace the part or give a disount on the product that was installed. You go to your big box stores that is sometimes where you have to worry. They tend to hire people without no expirence. You get to your small custom (ma-pa) type shops they have LOTS more expirence and know what they are doing. Accidents happen. Cold plastic is brittle.
  20. Just to let you know that if you dont have the Nav screen you dont need the FORDAH, you can use just a plain ford wire harness. The only control you will loose is the dimmer for the lights.
  21. Believe it or not, atleast my 09 was the same style as any other ford. Not difficult (being i was in the install field for 12 years, and do it as a hobby now). Ford has yet to adapt to all the can-bus (as for interfacing with alarm and remote starts) systems as all the other car companies. Your alarm/remote start will hook up directly to all the wires in the vehicle (meaning they are all either pos or neg triggers). Except for the PATS bypass system. This you will NEED either a bypass module that "tricks" the PATS system to believe there is a key in the ignition, or you need a key-in-box (coffin some call it) and hide a key in the car. this coffin has to be activated by the remote start, and has to transfer the signal of the rf chip in the key to the cylinder. If the wraps around the cylinder ever move guess what no vehicle start. I have had them move on me as i would re-install the column shroud. Most shops will install an aftermarket rs for starting about 250 (product and labor). An aftermarket one will give you longer ranger also. Just because yours is a Ford brand, it doesnt mean you wont get treated the same at the dealership if you have vehicle problems. The only way they may be more forgiving is if they actually install it and not you.
  22. No offense but if you are planning on putting in a remote start, taking apart the dash should be the easy part. Torx screws on the bottom, and the top clips to the bottom.
  23. Go aftermarket. If your doing the install yourself you get the same warranty. NONE except on the parts. Advantages of aftermarket: 1. all functions work (including the auto-climate) 2. can hook up the heated seats. 3. LOTS longer range. Last weekend i just installed myself an autopage alarm/remote start (im a previous professional installer of 12 years). It has 1mile range (thats what they say), I have it hooked up to the power lift gate, each heated seat independently (meaning i can control the drivers or pass on hi-or lo), and i can turn on the rear defrost (mirrors too). With this unit i have EVERY accessory in the vehicle working as it should, just like it would if the key was in the ignition. You can get this model online for about 200. On top of the remote start you will also need a bypass module to bypass the PATS system. You will need this for the factory remote start also.
  24. Over the weekend i just installed an autopage cs-rs915 (im a previous installer of 12 years) so the installation was not an issue. They claim it gets up to a mile of range (must be with nothing else in sight). The unit I have has extra channels so that I can activate the power lift gate, each heated seat on its own and also the rear defrost. I believe it retails for 400-500 installed at many shops. You will need a bypass module for the PATS system (chip in the key). Some shops will charge anywhere 50-100 for these. Note for the heater and climate controls to be on when you start the car, you need to remember to turn them on to the settings you want before you exit the vehicle. I have the digital climate controls and where i leave it when i get out is where is is when i start it. I believe that you can get a "valet" key that is the plain key without the remote build into it.
