  1. it all depends on the interference. to comply with fcc regulations they have to accept interference. I still believe that when a manu states the distance they test it in an open field with nothign around for miles and miles. if distance is something that is really important you should look into some of the phone activated aftermarket remote starts. mine for instance i just call a 1-800 number from any phone (land line or cell) and i can start my car from anywhere in the world.
  2. I always say yes. it has the PATS system that is a fuel shut-off. you may need to check on the parts of making noise. most fords i have seen (i have been an installer for 12 years) after about 05 the keyless entires are a "glorified" horn honker meaning that about it as it will sound the horn when you press the panic. My 09 sport does not have a factory alarm (one that will go off when the doors are opened)
  3. its just a standard 6 x 8 from ford. you can go to a junk yard and get one there also. any newer vehicle from about 2005 on up will have the same harness otherwise for about $50 or so you can get a basic pair of 5 x 7 (which are the same). they will sound better than any factory even the lower end speakers
  4. Mine handle good. this is the 2nd winter with them. i have to agree with the snow in the rims. you need to clean them (inside of the rim) or the car will shake/ vibrate like hell until you do. I was able to find a small snow brush that fits into the openints to do this.
  5. 1, There is a large gromet that factory wire go through that i passed mine through. i also passed 4ga power for amp in this location also. 2. I used the idatalink for the ford. it will require 2 factory keys to program the module, but then you dont have to hide any keys in the vehicle. There are a few different modules out there that will do this. xpress kits... 3. tach you can grab at any injector. Just the "non-commmon" wire. If you look at all the injectors there are 2 wires. one is the same color on all of them DO NOT use this one. They are a fairly easy vehicle. once you remove the panel below the steering wheel and remove the steering wheel shroud you have access to most of the wiring.
  6. IMO if you want to switch to the "factory" woofer you will be much happier with the JL stealth box. it will still fit into the factory location. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1606
  7. IMO if you want to switch to the "factory" woofer you will be much happier with the JL stealth box. it will still fit into the factory location. you will just need the panel that covers it.

  9. Well there are really only a couple ways of doing this. fist you can get the panel for the subwoofer model and get a stealth box. these are made from JL. Otherwise your only other choice would be to get a custom box built.
  10. something like this is what you need. too bad they are soo expensive http://www.navtv.com/product/167/allsync-xg.html
  11. Did that include the bypass? if so that is a hell of price. I think MSRP on that alarm alone is 479 installed. Where did you get it done at?
  12. Aftermarket remote starts come with a sticket that the installer or owner of the vehicle are suppose to place somewhere in the engine area. The only way to tell if anything is still in the vehicle is to try and look around the steering column (this is where they usually are), under the drivers side of the dash. If you find it you will need to get the make and model number of it and then you should be able to find a replacement remote. It could be a factory, or a dealer installed "factory" (usually this is a code alarm), or an aftermarket. Or it was just removed when the previous owner got rid of the vehicle.
  13. i am a big fan of aftermarket. I personally have an autopage. mine can start from (up to a mile so the manu says), I have it set up to open the auto lift gate, turns on each of the heated seats independently, and adjust the tem of them too, turns on the rear defrost. granted i was in installer for 12 years so i did it myself. in the past i have used viper (dei), compustar, audiovox, autopage. depends on the dealership if they have a "accessory" department they will usually use the same brands you will find at a ma-pa type audio shop. lots of times is these types of shops that get contracted to install them.
  14. Any speakers will give you a different sound over the stock. Alot of times when you change out the stock speakers there is a big drop off in the low end sound (bass). Even when you go and listen to speakers it will sound different than it will in your vehicle. I would actually recommend a set of components. I was able to fit a 6.5" set with the tweeters in the factory location in the front doors now as for speakers, just go to different audio shops i prefer the smaller ma-pa type. usually more knowledgeable and a little higher end equipment (im a hi-fi guy so i done buy cheap).
  15. analog/ digital its all the same lol... whatever it is. having it still free is nice.
  16. Mine is an added piece from audiovox from an old audiovox alarm i had in my 06 explorer. If i went with an audiovox alarm it would do all the functions that the remote would. the piece is just all phone menu opperated so it works with land lines also. i just call a 1-800 number put in a code and do all the functions from there. when this piece was release back in 05-06 there was no activation and there is no yearly charge. with that being said i only hooked up the remote start portion to my autopage. so i call it and i can only start it. i dont care about being able to unlock the doors from a distance, i only care about being able to start it at work when my edge is a few blocks away. keep in mine the distance they "tell" you a remote start works is not with any interference around. However what they dont disclose is to comply with FCC they have to accept interference... so the range is never what they say. Now with all the phone add-ons these work on cell technology so if you are in cell reange (analog usually) they will work.
  17. all major alarm companies have their own phone activation add-on piece. compurtar has their drone, autopage has thrie c3 module. The autopage is nore monthly due to it being also controlled via web. it also have gps tracking abilities. The smart start it meant to "replace" the remote control and all you use is the smartphone.
  18. i have an autopage. Keep in mind i did my own install. to get all these features installed it may be costly.
  19. there is no way to trigger just the front without going to the circuit board. Its not a trigger wire like the rear. you will have have to remember to leave it on. How many channels does the viper have? If i remember correctly some vipers have a programmable output that can control then rear defrost. however downfall to this is it will still turn on when you remote start it when you dont need it (summer time...). now according to my info the wire is white/orange at the back of the climate controls. this is a latched output. it does not turn the light on you once you have determined the correct wire and is hooked up you will have to listen for the relay clicking under the hood.
  20. What year do you have? i have on 09 sport and i have to turn them on manually.
  21. I would say look around. the setup you get at the dealer is usually a myron davis or audiovox. most likely you will be able to get these cheaper else where.
  22. whats longer? most aftermarket come with a lifetime, ford usually only gives a 3year/36mo. to me a lifetime is more than that.. But your ford one cant do half as many functions as an aftermarket. mine i can call from a phone to start, up to 1 mile of range with remote. i can turn on each of the heated seats independently and adjust the them, turn on the rear defrost, open the power lift gate
  23. Try hitting the lock button twice. Unless they changed it for 11 the ford factory keyless is just that. its really not an alarm.
  24. I was a professional installer 10 years at varrious shops (been out of the biz for about 2 years now). The unit your dealer will put in will be spliced also. MOst shops have access to the same manuals as the dealer all data is a paid for service that has the ford shop manuals in it. There are many other wire color/function programs put out by the alarm companies also. The other thing is about 50-75% of dealers out there contract with the ma-pa shops to do their work its not beneficial for a dealer since its not a steady job for an installer. A normal mechanic at the dealer does not do this type of work. To each is their own, but if you want to put in a remote start that only works from about 100' away that is way over priced go for it. On a side note i would stay away from most big box stores and focus on smaller shops.
  25. If you didnt get the factory just go aftermarket. they dovoid warranties (however a dealer may tell you they do to get the business) magnusson-moss act protects the consumer for this. The added units at a dealership are usually code alarm with a re-badged remote to say ford. the range on these units suck. If this isnt te case then they will send it out and just sell it with a warranty to match the factory.
