It seems the Edge is just not a mod friendly automobile and is putting up a fuggin fight. I started with the springs and that seemed to go OK but it was a bigger job than expected. Then I moved to the exhaust, trying to make it actually produce a little sound, it was way to quiet. That's where it really went downhill. I've had them configure the exhaust 3x now and it still sucks. It just sounds like a big fart, no other way to put it. So after spending $500 on that crap I'll be spending another $325 to reorder the stock catback and put that back on (we hacked the old one to death). Now some may like the sound but after driving my 5.0 it's just not working for me. So I'm willing to trade anyone in tampa a complete custom system for there stocker... Then the real ugliness started. Got a tune for it emailed this evening and as you would imagine I'm all excited to see what it will do. Well that turned into quite the freakin fiasco. First it wouldn't download the stock file. SCT needed a firmware update. Got that done, went back out and it still wouldn't do it. I realized you had to press the start button so many times before it's in the right "mode". So get that working and all seems well. Downloads the stock file, uploads the tune and then it really went freakin sideways. Started throwing all these errors, Bliss system error, Engine light on, warnings popping up, it's basically freakin out. I try and start it and it barely runs, It's shaking and popping and the throttle pedal doesn't even work. So I'm like that's it turn it back to stock, or so I thought... Apparently it corrupted the stock file and now it refuses to upload it, gives error 1016 unable to upload file. From the research basically you have to call SCT they have to resend you a stock file and you have to reformat the tuner, oh yeah... So now the truck is being towed to the dealer who I will politely ask to reflash the PCM tomorrow so I can actually drive my truck again. I don't know what went wrong cause the SCT has been a solid unit for me, I've done the SHO and the Mustang with it, probably used it 30-40 times making changes to the 5.0 alone. Apparently it really doesn't like working with Ford Edge's. Note to self, don't do that crap again... So needless to say aside from the springs and tint this puppy (at least performance wise) is staying totally stock. I'm thinking if I do anything it will be audio related or cosmetic, what could possibly go wrong there right and to top it off my Goldwing's in the shop too... Ugh... Sorry for the long rant. If your gonna tune beware it might go really wrong...

I'd love to have one in case I do a new sub box that isn't stealth or when we are out for the day and we throw stuff in the back like the wife's purse or my laptop, you know how the old saying goes out of sight, out of mind. Just makes for a bit more privacy.

Picked up the Eibach pro kit and it finally arrived so yesterday I had the springs installed. Figured I'd snap a couple quick pics since it's had a chance to settle. Definitely a difference when you see it next to the Wife's Edge. The ride is sublime, it's a tad firmer, corners flatter and is a lot more fun when you hit the on/off ramps. Heck I just took it down a little twisty road by the house and was having a blast, it handles damn good for a 4000lb vehicle. Overall I'm very happy with the end result and I highly recommend. here are some quick shots from iPhone: What do you think?

FYI in case anyone was wondering if there was some performance gain to be had by doing a nice high flow exhaust like this, the answer is basically, no... Here are 2 dynolicious runs one with stock exhaust, the other with full custom setup. I didn't notice any difference at all and the numbers are pretty darn consistent. The program is too, I've run it at the track and it's pretty close to the paper slip I got from the timing shack. Here are the runs, virtually same time at night, same road, same temperature, just a little more gas tonight, I'm actually happy with the 0-60 times, I think with a tune and a good launch I can drop that to about 6.3 or so. I did have one run that clocked a 6.6 0-60 which was nice, Perfect launch with no wheel spin. Here is just the 0-60, didn't finish the run, would have been a solid 15.2 if I had: This is 2 nights ago (professional driver on a road somewhere in Mexico) This was tonight, virtually same conditions though I had about 1/4 tank more gas in it:

The 3.7L engine pretty much sounds like crap when you take out all the parts that keep it quiet. After about $450 wasted the truck sounds, well, eh... The problem is mostly in the mid range and under load, it just makes this awful noise, like a big fart that doesn't quit and changes pitch. I can't describe it any other way. It sounds good sitting at idle and startup, it sounds good cruising, no annoying droning or anything and under WOT it roars pretty good. It's the middle bit that just sounds, well, like ass... It's when your 1/4 throttle putting around that it just doesn't make a pretty noise in that mid 3k to 5k RPM range. It's very very high pitched and very raspy. Nothing sexy about it for sure. So far I started with just removing the big resonator. It was still pretty quiet but it made a horrid tinny, raspy, nasty sound mid throttle. So I Figured lets set it up and try to get it as deep as we can. So we did custom pipe, no res, some Flo Pro mufflers (stock tips reused) and a custom H-pipe they created. The shop did damn nice work and really made the setup look fantastic. I guess coming from a 500HP 5.0 that sounded amazing I'm a bit jaded. I love the truck but I just can't seem to make it sound right for me. To some it will sound great I'm sure but I'm not feelin' it. So tomorrow I will go back again and try have them weld in some resonators and see if that tames the raspy-ness. At this point the stock system is trashed or I would just put that back on. I'll make anyone in the tampa area with an '11 or '12 FWD Sport a helluva deal on a complete custom exhaust system just PM me... I'm thinking trade my custom for your stock and were in like Flynn... Anyway here are some pics of the work it's much more solid then the stock unit and the tips are lined up much better. Hoping the resonators cure my issue or I just wasted about $500 by the time this is done. Not the end of the world but an expensive experiment... The stock unit in case anyone was curious what it looked like:
-
I've heard about it, it plugs inline in the harness and changes the throttle response. What many don't realize is this can be done via a custom tune. It's one of the reasons I get them with throttle by wire cars, it really improves throttle response, shifting and the overall driving experience. The extra 20-30HP/TQ doesn't hurt either
-
We had a similar issue on my wife's Limited. TSB performed this weekend so we shall see...

Check out my tuning thread, I have 2 custom tunes on the way! Also your LED strips you put in to replace the stockers (the DRL's) were those direct bolt in or did you have to fab up some stuff and rewire to make them work? Thanks!

Seeing as I'm an car guy through and through and can't leave anything I own alone, I went searching my Mustang contacts to see who can tune the Edge. I sent my strategy code over and both VMP (in Orlando) and Livernois (Detroit) can both tune it, and both have tuned the Edge before. I ordered the VMP tune this evening and should have it tomorrow and I'm ordering the Livernois tune as well. I want to try the two out and see which is best. Since I already have an SCT XCAL3 I just need the custom tune files. VMP is the cheapest, it was $66 OTD. Livernois will probably cost me a few bucks more. Both Justin (VMP) and Dan Millen (Livernois) are outstanding tuners and have years and years of experience. Justin's Mustang runs 9.8's with a Roush TVS and basic bolt-ons and his wife drives it everyday. Justin also tunes just about anything he has a whole forum dedicated to all the cars he's tuned and the results he got. Each should be able to squeeze an easy 10-20whp with just a 93 octane tune. It's not just the power that helps though, they do shift points, raised rev limiter, no speed limiter, better throttle response and firmer WOT shifts. In my tinkering tonight I pulled the snorkel on the air box and could physically feel the engine pulling air through the larger inlet. It's about 20% bigger without the snorkel. I can hear a little more noise and the SOTP feel was good. Before I couldn't turn the front wheels over hardly at all, now it spun more than expected. I did some dynolicious runs (I've used this at the track and it's pretty darn accurate) and got some 0-60 and 1/4 mile pulls. I was actually surprised I turned a 6.6 0-60 time and 9.9 1/8th mile. The one clean full run I got was 15.3 with a little wheel spin. I figure a tune should drop that to about 14.9-14.8 with a good launch. Not to shabby for a 4000lb SUV. I'll do a couple runs after tune and see how she does. Low 6's for the 0-60 should be achievable. I'm not looking for it be super fast but a little more "go" is always a plus... Funny thing was I got the best results with the traction control on and leaving it in "D" and load the converter to about 1200 rpm and mat it. When I put it in "M" it seems to firm the shifts a touch and sharpen throttle response which just caused me to actually spin the front wheels almost all the way thru 1st gear, oh how I love 50 degree weather lol... I also received my Eibach Pro Kit today and will be installing those in the next few days... Pictures an more coming soon. Oh and did anyone did a nice custom exhaust on their Edge? What mufflers did you use and do you have any droning issues in the cabin? Wouldn't mind a bit more growl but don't want the drone when I'm cursing...

Looks great, that new grill and front nose is growing on me, the old one was awful... Is your interior and dash the same?

Just downloaded the Zip, thanks for the update. Sure beats pulling the fuse when the system goes on the blink, which it does frequently... Come on Ford we need the new update...

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
PhantomX replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Add me to the list of freakin aggravated MFT users. After a week with my new Sport the MFT had been flaky then decided yesterday it didn't want to connect to my phone for bluetooth audio, the phone portion actually worked fine, but no audio on bluetooth just says "connecting to Bill's iPhone" then says "disconnected" and then resets to AM radio, lovely. Now the USB cable won't even work, it shows all the info like it's playing but nothing is coming out, zero audio. The other day it froze when I hung up a call and locked the system up, which of course knocks out the climate control. Then to top it off today it wouldn't shut off. I shut the car off, everything stopped, the screen when black but the audio was still playing, completely jacked up. My Wife's Edge (yea we have 2) has similar issues with hers. I thought I could overlook the flakiness we were seeing in her car but she doesn't drive it much, I'm over the top flippin' aggravated with it. I called my sales rep out today (good friend of mine) and basically cussed him out about it. He laughed which made me calm down. Ended up having to pull the fuse twice today to reboot the system. It started working normally for a few then the bluetooth quits starting up right away like it's supposed to and then just stops connecting. It's weird it breaks in phases. Phase 1 it works, Phase 2 the bluetooth doesn't startup when I turn on the car, but you can manually connect, Phase 3 total failure to recognize my iPhone. FORD HURRY UP ALREADY, if not your getting this heap back and I'm buying something else! -
Stealthbox install in a 2011 limited edition

Thanks Dingo, and that fit right into the factory box? That's an easy fix, a small amp, line out converter and sub. Sweet! -
So by putting the MAF at the right position did this cure your rough running issues? You did mention the codes were gone but not the rough idle. Also do you have a custom tune yet?

This sport engine is the same engine as the Mustang and those guys get nice gains from a CAI, in the area of 5-7rwhp combined with a custom tune to make use of the new air flow they get about 30rwhp on a premium fuel tune (93 octane). There was another Edge on here with AWD that picked up almost 30AWHP with CAI/Tune/Exhaust. If the engine breathes better it performs better. The ECM has some range to work with when it comes to air flow and engine management. The reason why a CAI makes a little bump in power is because it leans out the A/F ratio about a point or two. In many cases the stock programming runs the A/F pretty rich. Lambda is commanded way less than < 1.0 stock which is pretty rich around 10:1 average. A CAI might bump that to 10.5:1 or 11:1 based on the new volume of air coming in, that increase gives a tiny bump in HP, and usually across the range. It may, depending on design hurt TQ a little though so beware. There is a lot of tuning room in these engines. First they are tuned to run on 87 octane so the timing is turned way down. They aren't very aggressive with the valve timing, which is a whole new aspect to tuning. Add some changes to command a little leaner A/F (say 12.5:1 which is still really safe on an N/A motor) plus a bump in global timing and change the valve timing a bit and you get a pretty nice bump in power. At the end of the day the engine is just a big air pump, the more efficient you get the air in and out the more power the engine will make... Now I'm not saying your going to get oodles of power and great gas mileage from a CAI alone, you probably will see a negligible bump in power (5-7whp) but combined with some exhaust and little tuning and you get a sizable bump in performance when everything works together...

Which subs work well with that limited airspace in that box? I would love to do this but I'm not sure what subs will work well in that box. i also want to upgrade the door speakers to something a little cleaner... -
2011 Ford Edge Sport finally dyno'ed ... not impressed with results
PhantomX replied to scuubydoo3's topic in Mods & Tech
Mustang is actually the brand of Dyno. It's a loaded system that allows you to plug in different weight for the vehicle and and it applies more resistance to the rollers thereby changing the HP figures. My guess for my FWD would be about 240-250'fwhp. With tune/intake/exhaust should pick up 25-30fwhp. Similar 2011 V6 Stangs are making 290'ish rwhp same mods. I'll get the Dyno done in the coming weeks and then again with mods so we shall see... -

Here ya go http://www.jlaudio.com/product/54216.103634.2096.97621.0/Edge It's rated at 550W and goes in the stock sub location with a little modification. It's a 10W3 so a step up in size vs the factory 8" -
I checked out the website and the Edge isn't listed for fitment, have you heard anything else about these or when they would be available for our trucks? I would love a set of these on my black sport and put my 22's on my wife's limited!

2011 Ford Edge Sport finally dyno'ed ... not impressed with results
PhantomX replied to scuubydoo3's topic in Mods & Tech
Ahhh that makes perfect sense that you used a basically what's called a Mustang Dyno, those numbers will ALWAYS be lower than a dynojet which is basically unloaded. Most dynos are of the dynojet type, not a lot of Mustang dyno's out there. To give an example my old Roush on a Mustang Dyno only put down about 345rwhp, on a dynojet it put down over 380HP. The problem with Mustang dyno's is that if you don't get the loading right and the weight right the numbers can be all over the place, just change the weight on it and you'll get a totally different number. I've done so many dyno runs in other cars I've lost count. Me personally the Dynojet is pretty much the standard for tuning. it uses the standard weighted drum and calculates the HP based on the math and not on loaded weights. They can "unload" the dyno so it acts like a dyno jet and you'll see a higher number. Also the AWD will absolutely eat up more power and those numbers will be about 10% or more lower than the FWD. Now the power gains you got on an NA motor are actually quite impressive and on par with what the Mustang V6 guys are getting with similar mods. A 35AWHP increase is actually fantastic and should put the your Edge at about 350-360HP at the crank. My guess is it should put down about 270-280AWHP on a Dynojet (or more). I'm going to do a Dynojet run on mine totally stock, then I'll do a tuned/cai run and see the difference (I have a FWD). I may do exhaust as long as it doesn't freakin drone.... -

If you really want to have some bump and be stealthy JL Audio has a stealth box that replaces the stock sub woofer. It hides in the panel in the back so you don't lose any space. You do have to modify the panel a little but for the benefit of cargo space it may be worth it. I'll probably pick one up here in the near future... -
Plus one for Justin at VMP, I met them at the track and they are great people and his Wife's 5.0 rides out, 9's now with his tuning and a Roush TVS on it. He knows his stuff. I'll be going to him for a custom tune as soon as I get my tuner back.

Hello, haven't posted in awhile. Just picked up a 2012 Edge Sport, Tuxedo black, Vista roof, all the goodies. This is technically our 3rd Edge. We had a Burnt Orange 08 that we traded for the Wife's current 2011 Limited and we just added my sport to the family. I decided to trade my 2011 5.0 in for it this weekend. I know some might think I'm crazy for trading a 5.0 but after awhile the lousy gas mileage, stick shift and 3.73's get a bit cumbersome. I wanted to go back to some luxury for my daily commute and the Edge fit the bill perfectly. Still sporty and awesome to look at and all the toys you could want. Here are some shots: Here's the Wife's And for giggles here is my other toy: And the 5.0 I just traded: Windows got tinted today so I'll new pics soon. I was reading the H&R Spring thread and think I'll pull the trigger on those, the White one lowered looked just sick! Going to probably do the Steeda intake and maybe a magna flow cat back (or custom exhaust not sure). Couple quick questions: 1. Do they have the proper tune yet for the 3.7L Engine? It's the same as the Mustang's V6 and there are tunes available for that. I haven't seen anything specific yet though. Recommendations here or dyne results would be awesome! 2. Exhaust. The magna flow kit looks good, does it fit the sport correctly? Anyone running it care to comment on interior noise levels, the last thing I want is any drone, that will drive me absolutely nuts. I don't mind a nice growl inside when you get on it but when I'm cruising I like it nice and quiet so I can carry on a conversation and listen to the radio (which sounds sick for factory). 3. Has anyone done the JL audio stealth box? Looks nice and fits in the side panel so I can keep my rear cargo space. I wouldn't mind a little extra bump in the trunk and stealth suits me fine. That's really all the plans I have for it. I kinda have a condition called Automotive ADD so I go thru a lot of vehicles, but that's what makes life so much fun lol...

As has been said not sure if you get the extra perks attached to the employee pricing like no dealer fees (except aforementioned $75) but what you DO get is all the incentives and rebates that go with a normal purchase. So don't let them try and tell you that you don't get the rebates because (if there are any and I believe there are) because your getting employee pricing, you get it all and if you finance with Ford sometimes there is an extra $500-$1000 on top of the factory rebate (sometimes). The only catch is if they also offer special financing like 0% or 1% or something like that then you DO NOT get the rebates, it's one or the other, rebate or special financing not both. Many times though if you have good credit you can get a good interest rate anyway and get the rebates. Just do some calculations first before you go so you know what the best way to go is, i.e. if the Rebate is only $1k for example then you may save a ton more money by going 0% interest and giving up the rebate, or if the rebate (like mine) was $5000 then it's better to take the rebate and not low interest. It's numbers game... There's lots of factors to consider when buying, how long will you keep it, payment and term, interest, etc etc. A lot of times what I'll do is get A Plan (my Grandfather is retired Ford) and the rebates and then if Ford Credit is offering it's special (usually $500-$1000) I'll finance with them for like 3 months at whatever there rate is and then I'll go to my credit union and refi with them at a lower rate, that way you get the rate and all the possible rebates you can. Since cars depreciate so much get all you can upfront!

I've been poking around here recently and thought I would introduce myself. Wifey and I just picked up a leftover 08 Copper Edge with the Gunmetal 18's. We traded an 04 Saab convertible in for it. Funny story is a couple days after we traded the Saab in it apparently blew a hydralic line in the top on a test drive and sprayed the customer and the interior with fluid. I guess we got rid of that at exactly the right time :happy feet: So far I'm extremely happy with the Edge, great ride, good power, very comfortable and the Sync system is hands down awesome! We had a minor issue with the brakes (which are sadly too weak for this size vehicle) but Ford fixed it up right away. I love the way the rear seats recline and it's got tons of room, heck I had 20 bags of mulch inside and a 1/2 dozen plants with room to spare. We even got the dealer to throw in the all weather mats and I purchased the rear cargo mat (that is a must have). Got a smoking deal on it with A Plan plus $5k in rebates and $1k in Ford financing. Question: anyone experience that annoying distorted audio with anything over about 1/3 volume? And for some reason today my Wife called me and said that she heard a click and the Audio just started only playing out of the right speakers, then came back to all speakers... Guess it's a trip back to the dealer... Looking forward to putting some more miles on it and maybe throwing a few more mods on it. I think some lowering springs are in order and the little rubber peice that goes over the rear bumper cover so you don't scratch it when you put stuff in the back. Anyone here lower there Edge? How do you like it? Pictures? I'll do the searching as well and go thru but if you pop in and say Hi post some pics! Here is our Edge and My car (09 CC) The Edge The CC
