  1. I have the same problem and noticed it back in March. From what the dealer has told me it has something to do with debris getting between the chrome clad and the aluminum wheel and scratching the clear coar on the wheel, thus creating a crappy looking wheel lip. There is no fix as of yet, except to replace the wheels with the same type of wheel that will do the samething. My dealer said they have contacted their service adviser about the problem and he said that the engineers are working on a TSB/fix for the problem, but as of July 17 nothing yet.
  2. Now re-read the entire first sentace of my post. I haven't seen a chip or any other performance upgrades that are readily avalible yet, but then again I haven't been looking that hard either.
  3. Took the Edge in for service this morning. Asked about my 18s clear coat chipping off. The dealership I go to is a small mom and pop dealership, but they have already seen 5 others doing the same thing. They said they would note the problem on in my vehicle records, but would not be replacing them right away. When asked why, they said they have replaced 2 sets already for other owners and (1) set has come back with the same problem already and the 2nd replacement set they got they looked at the casting numbers or something, and they are still the old numbers or something, so they are waiting a while until the old castings are purged from the system and the new ones are being shipped. So no new rims for me yet. They also told me it doesn't appear to be a rust belt area issue. They said there are multiple dealers in the southern states that have had the same problem, and they also said that one of the Edges that came in with the wheel issue has never seen snow or salt. The owner goes south in the winter and parks the Edge in a heated garage. I did ask about getting the solid aluminum rims from the 08 SEL instead of the chrome clad rims, but they weren't sure and would have to check into it. This whole wheel thing kind of pisses me off. When I bought the Edge I was asking about the chrome clad wheels. I was asking about them because I had a 1998 Ranger that had the chrome clad wheels. It did the same thing the Edge rims are doing, except the rims where steel and started to rust. So you had a nice chrome hub cap with a rusty lip. But I was assured when I bought the Edge they would not do that.
  4. That has to be my biggest complaint about the Edge, is not being able to control the gears. Living here in Iowa, I don't have the problems with mountains like you do in Colorado, but when I do pull trailers, it would be nice to use the engine a little bit better.
  5. 6+ MPG??? Sounds a little to good to be true. That is about a 25% increase in MPG in the Edge. Now 6% increase I can kind of believe. Another thing, carb parts compared to fuel injected parts are totally different. EFI systems have throttle bodies, fuel injectors, and sensors that tend to go bad when outside elements are added. I have a buddy that added a K&N FIPK system to his Chevy truck and the oil in the K&N filter screwed up a couple sensors, with a $400 repair bill. But, if you try it, let us know what you find out.
  6. If your front floor mat was wet, that may be a bad heater core or somebody for got to tighten something up in the heater assembly. Has the dealer checked the heater core yet? That would would be a good source of smell/odor. It may be a not so obvious place to look on a new car too.
  7. I haven't seen a chip or any other performance upgrades that are readily avalible yet, but then again I haven't been looking that hard either. I would assume someone is working on one, but then again maybe not. I agree with Grey, that city driving is hell on mpg. I just checked my wifes, and she has only driven around town this week, and the trip computer says 19.8 mpg. Not bad, but most of those trips are 1-2 miles max and a top speed of around 35 mph. Another thing, if you have less then 5k miles on your Edge, give it time. I didn't start seeing good numbers from our Edge until 7-10k miles.
  8. Sorry to hear that you have been have so many problems with your Edge. I hate to say this, but with 15k miles on my 07 SEL+ it's only been into the dealer to get the oil changed. I will say that with the roll back issue (if we are talking about the samething) if you are sitting at an incline the transmition wont hold it in place. That is true with every vehicle with an automatic transmition (that I have ever drove). I have a 99 F250 with an automatic and V10 and it will roll back, and I have a 1974 F100 with a C6 automatic and 428 big block that will roll back on an incline as well. Now I will say that the Edge rolls back on a lot smaller incline then the other vehicles I own, but when running down the highway when you take your foot off the gas it rolls alot easier that way too. The other thing I will ask, have you taken your Edge to another dealership? Do you go to a large "Walmart' type dealership, or a ma and pa type dealership. I have had better luck and service at the ma and pa type dealers then the super dealers. At the smaller dealers they need your business and typically will bend over backwards to help you out. At the super dealers you are a number and a statistic. Sometimes it is better to go smaller then larger. And this is coming from somebody that owns a F250 Crewcab
  9. Just turned 15k on the wifes Edge. The biggest things I have found are gas, air filter, and speed. Living here in Iowa the state gives us a tax break on 10% blend ethanol. But if I run regular 87 octane it seems to get 1-2 mpg better. But I run the ethanol blend to support the farmers and save 10 cents a gallon. I also just changed out the air filter. It wasn't that dirty. But after the wife ran 2 tanks thru the Edge after the filter change it picked up another 1-2 mpg. The biggest thing is speed. I have a heavy foot. Interstate speeds here in Iowa are 70 mph. I cruise at 79 mph. I just got done making an 800 mile round trip and averaged just over 25 mpg at an average speed of 60+ mph. The speed was taken off of my GPS, and the mpg figured the old fashion way, but the trip computer wasn't that far off either number. But I have also done a 60 mile trip at 58 mph (killed me) and it was pushing just under 27. So I will drive faster and loose 2 mpg. Now my wife drives conservative. 70-72 mph on the interstate. Easies on to the gas. and she will pull numbers less then I do, by 2-3 mpg. We made the same 80 mile round trip. First day the wife drove and got just above 21 mpg. The next day, I took the Edge and got just over 23 mpg. The outside air was the same, no wind, just different driving types. My wife thinks I am crazy, but she has seen the numbers. I have gone out in the middle of no where on a 2 lane black top, stopped and reset the trip computer. Then I slowly take off, trying to keep the rpms under 2500, up to 60 mph. Then drive a 5 miles and see what the average mpg number is. I then turned around went back to the exact same starting point, turned around to go back the same way I originally was. Then I reset the trip computer and punched it. All the way to 60 mph then drove as normal to the same location. From everything I have been told I should have got worse mpg the second trial. I didn't!!! The trial where I punched it actually got better numbers, and it was by a 2-3 mpg. The arguement I had with my wife was, when I punched it, I was getting poor mpg for the first 7 seconds or so, until I reached 60. Then I was getting the average 25. But on the trial where I tried to keep the rpms under 2500 I was getting so-so mpg for 20-30 seconds. Or 3-4 times longer then the first trial. She still thinks I am full of sh__ but saw the numbers and thinks I may have a little piece of truth in what I say. Now with that said. If you are hammering on it all the time, of course you are going to be getting piss pour mpg. But if you do it every once in a while, I think it actually may help. But I wont be writing any papers on it any time soon. Also city driving kills the Edge. Short trips seem to be the worst. But IMO, change the oil every 5k miles or sooner, keep a good air filter in it, keep the tires filled with air and rotate every other oil change, run 87 octane gas, and unload the car (if it's not winter, take out the survival gear). Otherwise, besides, chips, exhaust, and performance air intake your kind of limited. But try the gunning the throttle test sometime. And let me know if you come up with the same or different.
  10. I doesn't sound like a huge deal. I have had/heard of similar problems in other vehicles. In a F250 I had for a while, I had a speed-senser that would get a short in it everyonce in a while and wouldn't shift (automatic) unless I moved the gear shift into the selected gear and had little to no power. When I took it in to get worked on, of course it was running fine. but when they hooked it up to the computer the 'code' was still there. I also have a friend right now who's wife is having a problem with her Ford 500 with the CVT tranny. Every so often it will just hold 4000 rpm while driving, no matter if she has her foot in it or just cruising at 55 mph. Then the next time she starts it up, it's fine. They hooked her car up to the computer, but no code. So they told her to bring it back next time it does this, and do not shut it off. So basically what I am saying is, I don't think it's that big of a deal, sounds like a sensor to me. But I would get it in ASAP just so you don't get stuck some where.
  11. My wife has an '07 SEL+. When it has been sitting over night in the cold weather, and you come out and hit the keyless entry, the exterior mirrors will adjust themselves to the selected user. Well lately when we hit the unlock button they will move into place. Then you hit the button again to unlock all the doors and they will move again. If you keep hitting the unlock button, they will keep moving all over the place. Now this doesn't seem to be a big deal until you lock the Edge, forget something in the back end, hit the button twice to unlock the rear hatch, go into the store, come back out, hit the unlock button twice again to get back in. When you look in the mirrors to back up, they are pointed at the sky. I have played with this a little, and I can actually get the mirrors to move all the way up, then they will start to move around in circle. I have gone through and reset both key presets. I have talked to the dealer and he has no idea what would cause these symptoms. He was going to post the question on Fords Tech site to see if he could find any answers. But I wanted to post here and see if The Edge Forum users could help out too.
  12. I will have my tires rebalanced every 6000 miles when I have them rotated. Or, every other oil change. I have had tire vibration before from crap build up in the rims. If you are getting snow build up, then everyonce in a while you will need to get in there and scrape the snow out. If you have a heated garage, take it to the car wash on your way home and that should knock all the crap out. If your looking for a maintence free vehicle you went to the wrong dealership. You should have gone to the Schwinn dealer.

    Can I wait?

I assume that it is an oil leak? Just keep an eye on oil level, and you should be mechanically fine. Just don't get out of warranty before you take it in. If you are taking it to the dealer for regular service, have them take a look at it when it's on the rack. If they are anything like my local dealer, they wont have the part and will have to order it. So that way you can have them order the part and then they will have it on hand the next time you take it in. Also, oil leaks can cause a mess under the vehicle. If they are leaking while driving down the road, it will slowly coat the underside of your vehicle, and if it gets bad enough the rear bumper and glass as well.
  14. Jeff, I have the same issue. I haven't had a chance to take it into the dealer yet. I just assumed that it was due to the cold weather here in Iowa, and that possible there was ice build up in the brakes. Like you say, it only happens on first start up, and I have only experienced it after the Edge sits for a while, like over night. I never noticed the problem when the weather was warm. How many miles do you have on your Edge? Is it AWD or FWD? What is the climate in your region? Just trying to figure out if we have the same situation. I also don't think it has to do anything with the Traction Control system. I have turned off the TSC and still heard the same sound. I have heard the noise on dry pavement, and on snow covered roads. Izzy
  15. Something appears to have been messed with in the computer. Living in Iowa I have multiple times have exceeded triple digits. 95 mph is just past 3rd to 4th shift. If your really worried about it, you can always try and get an aftermarket programmer. Otherwise make friends with your mechanic and they will check/change it for nothing.
  16. I let my wife order the Edge in any color she wanted, except for black or white and that I wanted the gray interior. So she ordered the Dark Amethyst Metallic with Camel leather interior. I should have told her I wanted black on black. I have always had Red or Silver trucks. I've been sticking with Silver the last couple trucks since they stay cleaner longer here in the midwest. The Edge on the other hand is at least a every week ordeal keeping that thing clean.
  17. My wife kept complaining about a metal rattle too. I searched high and low. I was about to take it to the dealer when I noticed that the rear liscense plate didn't have any rubber bumpers on the bottom of the plate. So when you would hit a bump you would get the rattle. 30 cents later it's fixed with some cheapy stick on rubber bumpers. We'll see how long they last.

    Low Gear

This is one of my complaints about the Edge. You can't select your gear. But to make due Ford did design it that if you kick it out of over drive and touch the brakes it will down shift through the gears. It doesn't give you complete control, but it is better then nothing. So try kicking it out of OD next time you come down the hill and see if that helps.

    Poor MPG

I find it also has a lot to do with the type of gas that you use. In my wifes SEL+ fwd in town only is usually around 17-18 mpg. On the highway it'll get 21-27 mpg depending on speed, wind, and outside temp. Another thing that I have found, is if you use the 10% ethonal blend your mpg goes down. I run the 10% ethonal most of the time, but I recently did a comparison on a road trip of 350 miles each way. On the first leg of the trip I filled up with 10% blend and ran interstate at 78 mph in the flatlands of the midwest. The temp was in the mid 50s and no wind. I got just over 22 mpg. Which I didn't think was too bad. On the way back I filled up with regular 89 octane gas. Temps and wind about the same. I set the cruise at the same speed of 78 mph. The Edge returned just over 25 mpg. So if you live in an area that gives you the option, try 89 octane rather then the 92. If you live in smog areas where they add ethanol to all the gas to help with emisions then you are S.O.L. I also found on that trip when the miles on the Distance till Empty show 0. You have about 1/2 a gallon of gas left. So head the warning of the gas gauge.
  20. My '05 F150 had the single ding when it hit 50 miles and 25 miles. I took the Edge on a 300+ mile road trip this weekend. So when I reached our destination I forgot to put gas in. Well, we drove it around K.C. a couple times when I finally noticed that I was out of gas. The computer said we had 5 miles till empty. I put in 17.3 gallons, and if I remember right it's an 18 gallon tank. So, I think 0 is as far down as I would want to get.
  21. I received the same e-mail. I was hoping for a cold-air intake by now rather then a replacement filter.
  22. Just over 7k miles on the wifes Edge and no major issues. We also had the trim on the Vista roof come loose. The biggest thing I have now is when filling the Edge with gas it will not fill all the way. When the gas pump shuts off there is only about 3/4 of a tank. I thought it was the pump/station I was using. I switched gas stations and the same thing. The dealer looked it over thinking the vent pipe was plugged or kinked and it was all good. So no fix yet. I just have to put the pump on the first notch to get it to fill all the way. Kind of a pain, but at least it's not a 40 gallon tank like my F250.
  23. When you say it shifts much better, how do you mean? Is it firmer or softer?
  24. I have about 7000 miles on the Edge SEL Plus. Lately, when filling up, I have noticed that the tank isn't getting full. When I am filling and it shuts off I can usually put in another 2-5 gallons, but very slowly. Depends on the station and nozzle that I am using. It's acting like the breather is plugged, or something. I've had a similar problem on my F250 when the breather was full of rocks from driving on gravel roads, but the Edge hasn't seen any gravel yet. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. I am going to have the dealer take a look, but I was hoping to wait until my next oil change.
  25. I talked with my local Ford mechanic. He says for the overdrive, you can use it as long as it's not shifting between 5 and 6 all the time. If it's down shifting then lockout overdrive. I pulled my aluminum golf cart trailer and golf cart (total weight = 1300#). The golf cart has no top or windshield, so minimal air resistance. I pulled them 200 miles round trip. I pulled onto the Interstate and once I was up to speed let it shift into overdrive and set the cruise, within 1/4 mile it shifted back down. So I locked OD out the rest of the trip. I averaged 17.6 mpg at 75 mph. I don't think that is too bad. I do like that when OD is turned off, the tranny down shifts when the brakes are applied, but I still wish the gear selector had a few more notches in it so I could select what gear I wanted.
