  1. Thanks for the replies.... Really not worried about stripping the drain plug. Just trying to make life a bit easier. Mainly if by some certain reason I put a bit more oil than intended, I could open the valve and drain to appropriate level. As far as the Oil Extractor, I have considered it but not sure if I want to go that route. I have some holdups about any potential sediments left behind in the oil pan and wether the extractor will suck it up as well. I have heard that it does get all the oil out and leaves the engine bone dry. I was also told not to worry about any sediments b/c if I run the engine for a while or extract the oil while the oil is still warm, then most debris/contaminants will be held in suspension of the oil. So, this does sound like a great alternative, even though I will still have to get under the car to remove the oil filter which defeats the purpose of why some people get this in the first place or at least why people with BMW would get it since their oil filter is locate at the top.
  2. After changing our oil I figured why not install a drain valve to make oil changes simpler [as if its not already simple as it is  ] So I came across a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve [i believe the F-106 fits our Edge] Does anyone have any inout on the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve. I was going to create one from the supplies from our local hardware store, but not sure if the Fumoto would be better or not
  3. I just received the keys for our 2010 Edge. Everything works great! Dealer wanted to charge $10/key to just cut the keys, but the friendly people at our local Ace Hardware shop cut it at no cost. :shades: I even tried to give them a Thank You payment, but they refused to accept anything. :hyper: 1. As far as programing it is very easy to program both the keyless remote and the transponder in the keys. The keys cam with very easy to follow instruction which took less than 2 minutes to program 2 new flip keys. 2. As far as I can tell the flip keys are very durable. 3. Comments.... The range is just as good as OEM if not better. Worth the investment Hope this helps :stats:
  4. Actually it really would not be much difficult to perform an oil change, trans fluid change, or coolant flush.. All it would take is about 3 Fastener Plugs for connecting it to the front bumper and maybe 3 screws in the back to help stabilize the splash shield/ belly pan. On the BMW it may take an additional 1 min to remove and 1 min to replace so a total of 2 more minutes to change the oil. :shades: Unfortunately i really don't have that much time to make/fabricate one. Hopefully someone in the aftermarket part business would be interested in creating one. I have hear claims that it reduces gas milage and decreases road noise, which I am not too sure how true that is. I am mainly interested in protecting the engine and its components from excess water, dirt, etc....
  5. Does anyone know if its possible to install/buy an engine splash shield/ splash guard to prevent water from splashing into the engine bay. We have them in our Audi and BMW and I feel they help a ton Something similar to this
  6. What I did was: 1) Use a Dermal tool cut a cross through the Black Aluminum rivets [it look like its plastic but its not] 2) Remove the rivets 3) Remove License Plate mount 4) Went to autoparts store and bought black 1/4" Fastener Plug ADV AUTO has them http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Body-Fasteners---Interior-Dorman_5029937-P_N3102_A|GRP2037____# Hope this helps. Also Note you can use a 1/2 drill bit to loosen the rivets but did not want to risk going in at an angle so I used the Dermal Hope this helps
  7. Glad to see you were able to get it out. Sorry that the instructions I have were not sufficient. If I ever do have to take ours our, I will post more details and include photos.

    2010 Tailgates

Not sure what exactly has changed, yet I can update you on what we have on our 2010 Edge. [Note we have the Cargo Package w/ power liftgate] 1) Auto tailgate/liftgate via remote & button near the steering wheel 2) Auto colse on the button inside the cargo. Also by pressing the tailgate/liftgate button on the remote will also close it. 3) If manually opening the tailgate/liftgate via its handle. Since we have the auto/power tailgate/liftgate it basically opens itself once you press the button inside the handle of the tailgate Hope this sheds light on what you are looking for.
  9. Akirby, no need to apologize! You have helped out and educated me on many aspects.
  10. Points well taken. Never stated I would go to a corner lube. I will do the work myself. If I let the oil run low, use non specified products, use incorrect weight/kind of oil, do not maintain the scheduled change intervals, etc... then the problem lies on me. If I follow everything to the T , then the problem fall on Ford. I would have no problems going to the Local dealership if they were trustworthy. Since ours are not, I am forced to do it myself.
  11. Dont be so sensitive. I am stating that Sirius is not all its cracked up to be. So people may like it and other will not. Everyone is different and have different likes and dislikes.
  12. "It won't hurt, but from what I've heard if there is a mechanical problem that appears to be caused by improper lubrication it won't matter whether you have receipts or not." I have read this comment several times. Sometimes things happen even though we follow proper lubrication [i.e. whatever oil meets Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A and installation of proper filter] Why would someone buy the oil and filter an not install it? I am not attacking you comment, it just sounds odd. Its good to know, but hopefully no one will ever need an engine to be replaced within the warranty. If they do and they followed proper guidelines, then hopefully Ford will do the right thing.
  13. It cannot penetrate through any kind of surface. Wether its the malls garage, hospitals garage, etc.... Our Mall's garage is only 2 levels. I cannot even get a satellite signal on the top level which has a top covering, but its not several feet of concrete. Whats even worse the satellite's signal cannot even penetrate through the roof over our local gas stations. Whats sad is I can listen to standard FM broadcast radio in those places I cannot pull a satellite signal.
  14. Also, not sure if this makes a difference or not, but it may be better if you are still under warranty to buy the oil/filter around the time you actually do the oil change. If you ever run into mechanical issues and you have a receipt from 6 months ago, it may not play out in you favor.

    Radio

Thats odd  Radios should not just turn off on their own. :stop: Have you contacted the Dealer to see if you can get it replaced
  16. Personally, Sirius is not all its cracked up to be. I cannot even get a signal while driving through any Parking Garage. We are still within our free trial, but I never listen to it anymore. Its not commercial free and they repeat the same songs over and over again probably do to limited selection. While they do offer some good choices, its not for me. I actually use my phone to stream the my playlists and Pandora over bluetooth. I also have a couple of MP3 CD in the 6 disc change. Each CD gives me about 5 hours of continuous music. For me, streaming my music or listening to an MP3 CD is better considering I am only listening to the songs I like. I could pay $300 and have Sirius service for the timeframe I own the car and not have to worry about the monthly fees, but its really not worth it to me. Good Luck on your decision
  17. The rebate would be better if you have the remainder amount of cash to buy the car. If you use the rebate and then use a loan to pay for the Edge, then you may end up paying more than you saved with the rebate. So, if you cannot buy flat out, then the 0% is the better/safer route b/c it g ives you leeway and doesn't tie up your available funds.
  18. From my understanding the chrome clad [plastic covering] cannot be replaced due to the fact that its epoxied onto the wheel. If its a chrome clad wheel you will have to replace the entire wheel.
  19. Careful about putting tint on front headlights. Some states may consider it a violation linking it to Laser Jamming. Basically the police will aim the Laser beam towards something reflective [i.e. headlights] Hence, if you have something which effects the reflectiveness of the headlights, you may be sighted for violation of Laser Jamming. Not saying that you will be sighted, but its possible.
  20. Here are the procedures I have: 1. Remove the storage bin. 2. Remove the 2 scrivets. 3. Disconnect the power point electrical connector. 4. Remove the 2 floor console front side bolts. 5. Remove the 2 floor console-to-instrument panel bolts. 6. Disconnect the floor console electrical connector from the lower right front wiring harness. 7. Remove the floor console. 8. To install, reverse the removal procedure Also see attached diagram Hope this helps
  21. Our local Autozone has 3157R Super-Bright Red LED by Jam Strait [12v] bulbs for $16.99. They are about the same brightness as the stock bulbs. and the blink rate is slightly faster than what it was w/ the stock bulbs. Also, attached are a couple of pics from our 2010 Edge indicating slight discoloration around the socket [right now we are at 2000 miles] Hope this helps [uPDATE: I checked the front Turn Signal Bulbs/socket and everything looked fine. Must only be an issue with the Rear Tail Lamps. Don't know if it made a difference that the front bulbs are orange/amber colored and the read tail lamps are clear.]

    Synthetic Oil

Akirby, you are always full of useful info. :shades:
  23. After reading this thread I decided to check mine. We have a 2010 Edge w/ 2000 miles on it. Our tail lights are starting to show signs of discoloration around the socket [The white portion] as well. Its not as bad as the ones posted in here but looks like they are heading in the same direction Looks Like I need to start looking into LEDS as well [hopefully they will stop the burning process] . Really do not want to go that route but its better than having a burnt/possibly damaged socket Also has anyone checked the front turn signal bulbs/socket? Have they started to burn/discolor as well?

    Synthetic Oil

I am fully aware of that. When I said "maybe Ford houses crooked employees" I'm referring to the dealership. As far as Ford having no say in how the dealer performs service... they should be interested and should have a say considering the dealer is representing Ford. Wouldn't you want to have a say in whomever is representing you :stop:
