Dodge Journey - 3rd ROW SEATING!!!

Recommended Posts

I was reading up on the Dodge Journey and wished Ford offered the edge w/ a third row. See, I lease my vehicles and my rep kept telling me to look at the Freestyle (Taurus X) if I wanted more seating. What she didn't get is that the Freestyle has bad residual (so does the Pacifica) and it least well over $75+ more a month when I picked up my Ford Edge in January. Not to mention, the Edge overall looks are much better than the Freestyle in my opinion. What is interesting is that Mazda CX-7 has a 3rd row option but the Edge doesn't.

Now I see that Dodge is introducing the new Journey and will have a 3rd row... Go figure... Not as nice looking as the Edge (to me at least) but not a bad looking vehicle either.

Ok Ford, can we please get a 3rd row now?

Actually, my wife's Jetta has to be turned in this September and seeing we will be having our second child in December we went to look at the Taurus X. However, the Taurus X lease was still way out of line we ended up picking up a Dodge Grand Caravan w/ Stow and Go seating at over $150 less a month... THAT IS NOT A TYPO... We didn't get loyalty cash so we aren't talking about a $199 / month lease but it's still under $290... We didn't want a Minivan but so far we love it.

When my Edge is ready to be turned in we will most likely not be replacing it w/ another Edge because we now have the Minivan. But there is a chance we "MAY" end up getting a Crossover w/ a 3rd row instead. They both need to be turned in around the same time so we can come up w/ a good plan to have a larger vehicle as the family vehicle w/ decent millage and a sedan for me to get to and from work (Possibly a Fusion)...

But, that is over 2 years away.

I love my Edge but sure wished I had the 3rd row so we wouldn't of had to buy a larger vehicle.

'I'm glad Ford decided NOT to offer 3-row seating in the Edge. If it did, ALL passengers would get less legroom AND it'd be longer and heavier.'

I agree. The Edge is the perfect size and being 6'4", it's the only vehicle where an adult can sit behnd me comfortably without me moving my seat up. Had an '05 Honda Pilot prior to the Edge. It's a little longer than the Edge, but because of the 3rd row seat, the middle row had to compromise. There was no more second row leg room in the Pilot than there was in my '97 Explorer (the ride prior to the Pilot).

My belief is that, if you add a third row of seats, it becomes an SUV. Look at the Acadia/Outlook/Enclave; its hardly a CUV.

I bought the Edge especially because it sat 5. If I had wanted to seat more, I most likely would have purchased the Outlook.

I dont regret purchasing the Edge for for second. It suits my needs perfectly.

My two cents....

I have a couple of small issues w/ the 2nd row of the edge... There is almost TOO MUCH ROOM... Why? Because the tailgate is very thick and compromises the storage space. I think they could of easily moved the 2nd row forward about 6 inches and still gave people more leg room than the Explorer.

I usually lease my vehicles and the Taurus X (Freestyle) didn't lease good ($50-$75+ more a month). Actually, my wife needed a new vehicle to replace her Jetta due to us having a second child in December. I looked at the Taurus X again, and $425+ a month with X-Plan pricing. YIKES. Now, the Pacifica wasn't really much better and we didn't like it as much as the Taurus X.

In the end, we ended up leasing a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan for around $280 / month w/ nothing down when we picked it up.

We really didn't want a minivan but after we drove it she liked it. The when she saw the lease payment she loved it.

We both agree that the Caravan isn't as nice as the edge but it's a very nice vehicle that works for us. If I had known we would end up w/ a Minivan 8 months after I leased the Edge I probably would of leased a Fusion or a G6. However, I still don't regret getting my edge.

I sure hope the Ford Flex is a good replacement for the Ford Freestar.

Yea the Edge benefits with just being a 5 seater, the Taurus X and future Flex will be Fords 3rd row seat offerings in the crossover marketplace. The thing im very concerned with is Fords future product lineup according to the rumors

Escape seats 5- 4 and 6 cylinder power (even in a futire offering, prob moving to more compact platform)

Edge seats 5- 6 cylinder power

Taurus X seats 7- same 6 cylinder power as Edge- very safe- Flex could spell disaster to its future

Flex seats 7 or 8- same power as Edge and Taurus X, very large cargo, but overall very similar in conceptual design to Taurus X

Explorer seats 5-7- 6 and 8 cylinder power- rumored to be moving to unibody crossover platform in next generation, if this can really stand out and maybe offered only in 8 cylinder power, it may be able to set itself apart from the Flex.

This is my idea of what Ford should do to stop confusion, bring the all new Euro Ford Kuga over and badge it as the Escape with only a 4 cylinder to compete with Rav4 and CRV. The Edge would stay the same, I think in the next intro of a new Taurus, i would drop the Taurus X in an attempt to lose confusion between it and the Flex. Keep the Flex the way it is as a minivan alternitive, and finally make the Explorer the unibody like rumored and make it high profile with a sole V8 option.- This would round off all Ford SUVS and crossovers besides the Expedition and give Ford a well balanced and competitive lineup.
