toast1850
Just a quick question. I just recently traded my 2013 Edge SE for a 2014 Edge SEL that has backup camera and dual climate AC with the 4.2" screen with SYNC. Can anyone confirm if I could install the 8" touchscreen with the non-Sony control panel? By the way, I love the car the way it currently is, but just curious if it could be changed in the future. From what I can tell, the connections look the same for plug and play. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks
toast1850
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Waldo
Anything is possible, but it would be far cheaper to just trade yours in for one that already has it.
toast1850
Waldo, Thanks for the reply. That wouldn't be an option because I just got the car. I found an OEM touchscreen (new) on ebay for around $300 and the control panel for about $70 used. I may just order the parts and take a stab at it and report my progress here. Part# for the screen is DE9T-18B955-FB. Radio control panel part# is DT4T-18A802-BE
Waldo
All the wiring is different. It's not a simple job. Even if you can get it plugged in, the software in the cluster, ABS module, PCM and other things will need to be reprogrammed.
toast1850
Is that something the dealership could program? I would bet even if they did do it they would charge quite a bit? Is there anything I could use to program it myself? Thanks
briankmizell
get a blue tooth OBD2 scanner that works with ForScan, and download the ForScan software and get the extended license for it.People are adding the Navigation to cars that do not currently have it, plus there are things you can add to show up in the dash such as climate control etc. Here is a link with info on how to do it.http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/general/guide-enable-navigation-cars-sync-2-0-t3484473 Edited November 22, 2016 by briankmizell
briankmizell
Sorry, i just noticed you have the 4.2" screen. so you will need the APIM and the 8" capacitive touch screen.
Kissel
Please don't take offense to this but being the original owner of a 2012 Edge Sport with the 8" screen and navigation, I cannot understand why someone would consider doing this. Had I known how poor and unreliable the telematics on this car was going to be, I would have saved the THOUSANDS of dollars by going with a lower trim level and slapping a smartphone onto a quality mount and calling it a day. I've already replaced my backup camera, had an SD Card failure, and now the car's APIM is probably on the road to total failure. Oh, by the way, the price for a new backup camera went up over 200% since I replaced mine over the summer.
toast1850
@briankmizell Thanks for the update on this. I figured it was possible to do it with Forscan and some type of OBD2 scanner. There is a mustang forum where someone reported swapping out there basic 4.2 screen to the full 8" screen and had it working without any problems. There was a video showing everything set up and functioning. If I ever get around to doing it, I will post here.
