Ok guys, help me out. I bought a used 2007 Ford Edge. It has 23,000 miles on it. We absolutely love the vehicle, until today. It has given us no problems, but we have only had it 3 months. My wife got in it this morning at 7:00 to take my child to school. The powertrain light came on, and she said it drove very sluggish and seemed the shifting was odd. Ok, so..... she came back home, called Ford and they are gonna look at it in the morning. Well, around 11:00 she had to run to the store, she started the car, the light was not on and it drove perfectly again. I got home around 4:00 and I drove it for about 30 miles with no problems. It seems perfect again. Anyways, we are still gonna take it to Ford dealer but I know they aren't gonna be able to fix the problem because as of now, there isnt one. Any suggestions? I don't imagine anything HUGE is wrong cause it drives great. Maybe sensors?

I doesn't sound like a huge deal. I have had/heard of similar problems in other vehicles.

In a F250 I had for a while, I had a speed-senser that would get a short in it everyonce in a while and wouldn't shift (automatic) unless I moved the gear shift into the selected gear and had little to no power. When I took it in to get worked on, of course it was running fine. but when they hooked it up to the computer the 'code' was still there.

I also have a friend right now who's wife is having a problem with her Ford 500 with the CVT tranny. Every so often it will just hold 4000 rpm while driving, no matter if she has her foot in it or just cruising at 55 mph. Then the next time she starts it up, it's fine. They hooked her car up to the computer, but no code. So they told her to bring it back next time it does this, and do not shut it off.

So basically what I am saying is, I don't think it's that big of a deal, sounds like a sensor to me. But I would get it in ASAP just so you don't get stuck some where.

I saw your post about the wrench/powertrain light coming on. Last Saturday, 03/22/08, I was driving on the highway and I noticed my speedometer wasn't working. Then I noticed that the front airbag light was on. When I got off at an exit, I also noticed that the wrench light and low tire pressure light was on. When the light turned green, I started to accelerate and the car would hardly go - it felt like the transmission was not shifting. It gradually started to go and go up to speed. However, every time I had to stop at a light, it would barely go. When I got home, I restarted my Edge to see if everything was still the same. All the lights that had been on were off, however, my speedometer was still not working and it was still not wanting to go when I put it in drive. The next morning I took it to the shop and, of course, after I had driven only a short distance everything seemed fine. I still don't have my car back. They had to have a transmission specialist look at it. Supposedly, there is a sensor that needs to be replaced as well as some other parts that are transmission related. I'm a little concerned about whether it will really be fixed when I get it back.

Happened to my Edge when it was only a week old and had <225 miles. Engine light came on, it was sluggishly slow when I accelerated. I pulled into a parking lot. Turned the engine off and started it 5 min. later, everything was fine after that.

Took it back to the dealership and they ran a diagnostic test and had a tranny specialist look at it. Their findings resulted in replacing 2 sensors Pt. # 8A8Z 7M101-A and 8A8Z 7H103-A

Well 5 years later, anyone still read this thread? I have a 2007 ford edge with 53k miles on it. just have the same issue, wrench, sluggish, tire pressure light and no speedo, when I unhook the battery it seems to run normal until i stop and let it sit for about and hour. happend twice this weekend. So I saw this post and thought it was also the OSS and TSS sensor in the Tranny. Brought it to Ford and they are telling me they cooling fan is not working and needs to be replaced. I guess that could cause the tranny fluid to heat up and trigger the OSS and TSS sensors. When I pulled the codes I got 3 (PO720, PO722 and PO480). I am affraid that I will get the Fan fixed ($800) and I will still have the same issue with the sensors putting my car into "limp mode".

Anyone else come to the conclusion of it just being the Cooling Fan Assembly?

I'm having the same issue with the OSS error. I keep the code scanner in the car and have to pull over and reset it. We've replaced the sensor once already (about two months ago). This is happening almost daily. My Edge is an 08 with 83,000 miles. I love the car otherwise. I will have to check out the theory of the cooling fan. Any other ideas to track down this gremlin would be most appreciated.

Having the same problem on my 2007 Edge. Bought it in 2007 and now wrench light comes on, speedometer stops etc. It does it with my wife so I drove the car a week and nothing happened, my wife gets back in it and a mile down the road it starts doing the same thing. I ordered a TPS sensor and put it on. Car ran great for me but my wife drives it and it does it again. I told her to turn off her iPhone 5c, car runs fine. Tested this theory for a month every time she turn her iphone5c on the car stalls. May seem far fetched but it's her iphone5c somehow interfering with the system
