gkyates
On my 2013 Edge there are 2 issues that I am wondering if the APIM is causing the problem. My Edge has the MFT system with Nav, but it is not the upgraded Sony system. The first issue is the satellite radio sound quality is absolutely horrid. I have upgraded the speakers to Infinity's, but still the mid and high level sounds are horrid. I am an audio guy as part of my career, and this is not normal. Second issue is the navigation voice instructions are distorted. I can understand them, but there is a distortion similar to what an AM radio station sounds like if it is not completely tuned in. I have searched for descriptions of the APIM issue and they are very generic in describing what the symptoms may be. I am still under 60k miles, so the APIM warranty should still be in effect. I don't want to drop it off at dealer only to pay a diagnosis fee and be told there is nothing wrong.. Yes, I understand that satellite radio is highly compressed, but the XM tuners I have in my older Explorer and Sport Trac (both direct plug and play Terk units) do not sound this horrid.. I am running the current 3.8 software in my system, but it sounded like this with the 3.5 version it had when I purchased it last year. Could this be related to the APIM issue? macbwt
Simple answer is No. If it were an APIM issue it would leave you with a black dead screen.
gkyates
Thanks macbwt for the quick response. If not the APIM, any suggestions? I have performed a master reset and even pulled the fuse for the system and no improvement. Plus I lost my favorites in my nav system.. lol! zrt8355
This sounds like an ACM issue - you may already know but the ACM is the actual radio/tuner module which is separate from the APIM. And a lot cheaper to replace. This one is an example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-2012-Ford-Edge-Single-Disc-CD-Player-AM-FM-MP3-Radio-Receiver-OEM-LKQ-/311884796785?fits=Year%3A2012%7CMake%3AFord%7CModel%3AEdge&hash=item489dc85371:g:oxAAAOSwX61ZLbz2&vxp=mtr
gtyates
Still trying to figure out the poor audio quality in satellite radio. I can the built-in diagnosis and found something interesting the APIM diagnosis. It indicates that the SDARS module is not available. Seems a bit odd. It also indicates that HD radio is available, but it is not since I have an SEL model. Does this make sense to anyone? Should I use my Forscan software and restart the APIM module? Ideas appreciated.
