2007 vs 2008 Edge

Recommended Posts

Looking at purchasing an AWD Edge (thank you Canadian winters), no specific preferences with options. I understand there are some options in the 08 that the 07 don't have like the Sync. After looking through the forum and some of the issues with the 07 and 08, I am just not sure which is better - buying an 07 with about 20000km (with no depreciation) or an 08 (with 0% financing). I guess it is more of a 1st year version versus new (and improved?) version issue and not a $$ issue.

I just want some thoughts of things I should be aware of when making my decision to buy a new or used Edge. Were there any drastic improvements made on the 2008 as far as performance, etc.

I apologise for the general nature of the question, just looking for opinions.

Thanks!

Hi kapfarm. :D No significant "performance upgrades" (i.e engine, trans, suspension etc.). There are quite few convenience items that were added, SYNC being a big one.

If money is not really an issue in the purchase, I would always recommend purchasing new. Yes, I know there is the subject of the depreciation hit on the new vehicle, I just personally do not like the idea of buying a vehicle that someone may have unloaded after one year due to problems (buying someone else's mistake). Yes, I agree that many people have very good luck with used vehicles. It is just my preference to buy new.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :beerchug:

Good to know that the changes are more convenience...I was looking at a lease returns. I do like buying new (had a 94 mustang and currently trying to sell a 2000 4x4 ranger) but thought I would spend a bit less this time.

One thing to note - the 07s came with a camel colored dash that reflected significantly in the windshield. I know this was for the camel color - not sure about stone. For 08 they changed the camel dash to black and the stone is a dark grey which avoids the problem.

I agree with bbf2530 - if you can afford the new one and you're keeping it more than 2-3 years, get the new one with Sync. You'll love it.

i went w/ a new 07 back in March. i was upside down on a different vehicle (02 tahoe 4x4 w/ 108,000 miles) with gas prices going up, up, up i went for the best trade in difference. i would only get $2K of rebates on the 08, and got $5K off with the 07. planned on keeping this one for at least 3 years so i went with the 07.

i like the back hatch handle (hidden) on the 07 much better than the 08. and kinda would like the Sync, but it wasn't a must have.
